What you will do if it will happens to you??
mrwebb8825 replied to Cuadrado's topic in Rent or Buy a Condo
You should don all of your most expensive jewelry, load your pockets with 1,000 baht notes and head to Nana. Your future wife awaits even as we speak. ETA: Post a selfie to the same chat site as you're heading out so the 1st guy can see that he didn't ask for enough. -
Scammed on Wise, how did this happen?
mrwebb8825 replied to simon43's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
For the OP (et al), Websites are the new scam. They are copied and put up on "hosting" sites and LOOK very real. Connection to them is often sent in an email. A few months back (as an example) my mom received and very real 'looking' email from McAfee stating that they had mistakenly 'refunded' and incorrect amount of credit to her account and could she please return it. They had also, somehow, made a transfer appear on her banking site and altered the 'memo code' to look like it was them to her (but was actually from her to her - she had 2 accounts). She then received a phone call to "follow up" and "assist" her in how to make the correction. Long story short - had she not been stopped she would have lost $40,000 I have since closed both those accounts and changed her bank as well as canceling McAfee and set up 2 step verification for EVERYTHING except direct ATM withdraws and even those have a a daily limit. (she's 83 and I call her "Happy Fingers". She's also been grounded from using the computer ???? ) -
how to get my last month of payment?

Try the Labor Dept that issued you the Work Permit. -
The government regularly schedules elections at this time of the year in hopes that the VAST amount of hot air spewing forth will raise the altitude of the pollution and the upper jet stream will blow it on to other countries. In other news: The current government has a secret contract with "Hoover" to build a "SuperSucker" that, when mounted to aircraft, will clean and filter the air in hopes of diminishing the need for multiple future elections.

Last update: The appraisers basically said costume jewelry - old but worthless beyond sentiment. This thread can be closed by the mods if they wish. Thanks for the replies.

Go to ChokChai Farm up northwest from Prathon Thani - you may even be able to milk the cow yourself. https://www.tourismthailand.org/Attraction/farm-chokchai The fresh ice-cream is great too. ETA: take a cooler and enjoy the day

As taught to me by a Dr. of Education during a now defunct Thai Culture Coarse (that teachers needed a long time ago to get a license), there are basically 3 "Wais": Thumbs to the chin for equals, elders and those of higher standing (and when politely returning a wai. also to children as a teaching method) Thumbs to the nose for parents because they gave you breath (life) Thumbs to the forehead for monks and temple idols because they give spirituality Wais can be given to a group in a public setting (in the case of the OP acknowledgement of the Thai wife from the young lady was for security in an insecure situation) much the same way that it's impolite and even intimidating to make direct eye contact (bar scenes have different rules with men and women) Anyway, just my 2 baht worth.

Does Tony still own it or has he been replaced too? He was a really nice guy but got caught out making book and sent back to the UK last I heard.

Thailand preparing for upcoming General Election
mrwebb8825 replied to Social Media's topic in Pattaya News
My wife tells me it may be May 7th or May 28th. Anyone hear any updates? -
Update: I checked with my mom and my grandfather was the 1st generation born in America. His father immigrated from Switzerland to Ellis Island so his father (the original owner never set foot in America) so the box may have been from a different jewelry purchase unless they did business internationally.
-
Thank you - I will look them up.
-
Yes sir, I understand that stickpins in general are not unique to Switzerland but the note indicates hat these are. The gentleman referenced in the note (John Conrad Herter) was my grandfather and he was a 32nd degree mason at the time of his death in 1972. It's not certain that his father, who died in 1944, or his grandfather (the original owner?) were the first to immigrate to America so the pins in question almost certainly originated in Switzerland. As for the box, it may very well not be the original box as my mother has 'jumbled' things around since her mother's death in 1998. Asking her now is hit and miss as she's 83 and "sliding" which is why I'm currently in the states and came across these items. (caretaker)
-
Was wondering if any of you know or know someone who might know about old stickpin jewelry for men that is supposed to be from Switzerland. My mom has these pins but we haven't been able to track down any definitive information about them beyond the hand written note in the box from her dead mother. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. I have attached pics of the pins, the box and both sides of the note in hopes it may help.

CR1 visa attorney fees in Bangkok
mrwebb8825 replied to revgreen's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
OP - $2k is very reasonable as attorneys here in the states charge $3-4k I take it you are going to do everything from Thailand? As I understand it, it takes 2-3x longer than filing from the states. (1 1/2-2 years vs 6-8 months) What "additional evidence" are they requesting? (working on this myself but from the states) -
This makes it clear as mud: ???? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downtown It's basically geographical. Why do most non-americans think NYC was the first city ever built in America? Not even close by more than 150 years.

There's plenty of unused space at the CW Complex in BKK. Sounds like there's an unemployed nephew or niece of a cabinet member that needs a salary.
-
Now that the 'cornpone' bunch have chimed in - suggest contacting the Cobra Gold bunch through Thai channels. Depending on what you're doing with them you may also try the State Dept.
-
OP - as was alluded to briefly, your biggest concern is getting another job (if that is your intent) as the labor dept won't issue you a new wp if the previous one has never been canceled regardless of expiration date. Unless the law has changed again, the school is responsible for canceling the wp and subject to fines if they don't. This is enforced in BKK more than the provinces. They were also technically responsible for notifying the immigration office of your employment termination which would cancel your extension But NOT a visa. You COULD have gotten a new job and applied for a new wp and an extension AFTER the old wp was canceled. IF none of this has happened then you need to leave asap (before visa/extension expires) to avoid massive fines that are easier to get from you on the spot.
