  1. Moreover Danang beach provide amenities for beach goers such as taps by the beach to clean up the sands before leaving beach and clean beach toilets all free of charge. A shame for pattaya beach facilities.
  2. Time for him to take this opportunity to repent and live an austere life like a monk. A good way to pare down his karmic debt.
  3. Thai workers especially those in blue collar work some of them tend to slouch off after drinking at noon. They never return after lunch break. Even for line assembly making it a headache for line managers . This excuse I heard from my Thai friend who has a factory in Rayong.
  4. Marriage is not solely for physical needs. Spiritual and mental aspirations too . a close buddy or companion to share life with and to grow old together.
  5. I have a teenager son who just got his bike license to ride to school . I got him a full face helmet but he skipped using it as much as possible favoring his other helmets for convenience. I guess as parents, we can only do so much and hope for the best. Teenager need to blend in with his pals and I guess peer pressure is also the reason for lax of safety behavior as well. Last week, he came back with the news of his friend being in a bike accident outside his school , showing me photos of deep gashes across his face lying unconscious on the road. He was not even wearing a helmet . Did my son take the incident as a safety education? No. He attributed the incident to bad karma or bad luck and go on with his life.
  6. I had seen many instances of young schoolers under 14 riding to schools in rural places all over in Thailand . I guess Thais are pragmatic about this as public transport is lacking here. The police are also complicit in this pragmatism.
  7. I am a Malaysian so maybe I can give a better insight on this issue. firstly Malaysians are more proactive about road safety. Diligent adherents to license, helmet were drummed into the younger communities constantly especially in towns and cities. You do get to see some riders without helmets during Friday prayer sessions but these are mainly in villages . Traffic police here are more diligent pulling riders violating traffic rules as well as checking valid documentation.
  8. Different sectors of Thais with different priorities. Don’t lump Thais into a single entity. They are not, historically and in the foreseeable future too.
  9. No need to go visit usa to see the homeless tent cities . You see those similar states in impoverished shanty towns worldwide.
  10. A pistol shot normally do not drop down the person unless it was a killer shot to the head. If not, the guy would have more than a few seconds to act before dropping down. It is only in movies where a shot would bring down a guy in succession.
  11. Skirmishes along borders is just like two siblings having a go at each other once a while to let off steam not to annihilate one another .they want to maintain the status quo.
  12. The architecture of the old temples were untouched. They just replaced the Hindu deities with Buddhist one and used them as Buddhist temples. I have seen these too in Cambodia not only in Thailand.
  13. Whether in criminal or political dramas, follow the money.
  14. Exceptions for humanitarian needs, such as urgent medical care, student education, and essential daily life activities. I think Thai authorities allow goods and services to cross border on foot but not vehicles.
  15. Why demeaning the Chinese ethnic ? There are always good and ugly nationalities all over the world. I am ethnic Chinese and I behave like a good world citizen wherever I go. Polite and courteous.
  16. Wearing helmet is to provide road safety for you and not wearing one is on you if you ever get involved in an accident. Thus to the Thais, it is the usual ‘up to you’ philosophy. Your life your choice .
  17. Bring your own then . Missus brought her own helmet when traveling overseas because of reasons stated above.
  18. Shirtless fellow is indeed sweating onto the pillows. Disgusting hygiene in a public facility. Who would want to use that space with his ’ odor’ all over ?
  19. Thailand borders with neighboring countries by land with mountain or river acting as natural borders geographically. There is no long never ending fencing on land borders so crossing the border is easily done. Problem arises a few kilometers down the roads where there are road blocks manned by the soldiers or police depending upon where they are. If losing your passport, you can’t always claim you lost it and be on your way to the embassy to report it. Local authorities do not want to be bothered by this issue. once I visited the 3 pagoda pass on the border between thailand and myanmar. You can enter into one shopfront which is on Thailand ground and exit the rear door which is on myanmar land. No fuss no authorities. It is free I was told but I did not want to tempt fate because the fee for coming back might not be free.
  20. Thailand should move with the times and get rid of these obscure and archaic laws. No other country I know uses it.
  21. Confiscated in name only as steel products were isolated at site for repurposing( sold for less demanding construction) . They are too heavy and bulky to actually moved. authority wanted to verify whether these faulty steel were sold to unsuspecting buyers or not.
  22. I always stay in phisanulok, tak or petchabun town on the way north to Chiangmai or chiangrai. Pichit is too backwater for my taste. Moreover after watching too many American horror movies on backwater towns , I resist staying in unknown lodging in some town in the sticks.
  23. Invest in a good water filter system. They don’t cost much and water is the lowest denominator of good health. I read the RO water is acidic after filtration and cancer thrives in an acidic environment.
  24. Not every farang is rich and supportive of local economy. If a Thai ask you to leave if you do not like it here, take it up to his/her superior. Make money work for you. thais generally equate money to power and power to subservience. It is in their patriarchal patronage culture. If you stayed in an upscale community or hotel, you get respect and good service from all walks of life. It is what it is. If Thais treat you lesser than you think you deserved, then if their eyes, you matter not much in their sphere of existence.
  25. The sole casualty I see here is his son . Children see, children heard and children form their own conclusion. Not always correct but there lies the problem.
