  1. It is shocking to treat the poor like this.

These people have few pleasures in life. No cinemas, no bowling that they can visit or afford.

    Satellite TV is unaffordable

It's a disgrace when all other household costs are rising too and the vast majority have no increase in income to offset it.

    Shame on you PTP

Hmmm - so your now advocating the government sets up some sort of scheme to increase the incomes of the lowest paid in society.

If the Thai government wants to know about raising taxes from alcohol. cigarettes and owning cars, they should get in touch with past British governments, particularly Labour, and they will get all the help they need, in fact, I'm sure Gordon Brown would be pleased to come to Thailand and make speeches, at a price of course while still drawing his MPs salary.
  2. Part of the reason I live here is to avoid people like this. When you hear stuff like this, it really saddens you.

That person stabbed in the neck could have been anyone.

    RIP.

This sort of thing doesn't only happen in Thailand, there are looneys in every country, despite some of the things that happen here, I still think Thailand is one of the safest countries in the world to live.

There are always folks that want defend their life choices by arguing that the level of crime, corruption and dishonesty is the same in Thailand as every other country, regardless of what the numbers say. According to intentional homicide statistics, Thailand is more dangerous than every developed country by far except the US, which is still safer than Thailand:

    http://en.wikipedia....l_homicide_rate

I have travelled over most of the USA several times. come from the UK, and have lived in Thailand for 7 years. I feel much safer here than anywhere else I've ever been.
  3. Students today. ummm. I remember when I was at school and got into a fight with another guy (just providing some entertainment for students during lunch) we were marched up to the Principals Office where we both got two of best on the palms with the strap. When we walked out of the office we were cult figures school yard heros before our fellow students and the school yard was ours for the afternoon. (incidently we became lifetime friends after that) We never ran home to tell the parents because we knew we would get six of best from mum or dad. What happened in school yard always stayed in the school yard.

If I had any kids, I always said that when they started school, I would tell their headmaster and teachers they could punish them if they were naughty, but if they ever beat them with a belt or cane they would answer to me. What I really mean is if they were male they would end up with a very sore face.

A perfect example to support farangled argument that "violence begets violence"

Yes, if anyone uses or threatens violence against me or my family, I would always and have, used violence on them, and no, I do not have a criminal record. In Thailand though, I would be a lot more careful for obvious reasons.

  6. Is he pitching or catching? and wouldnt this be better in the gay section of TV?

Ladyboy topics about straight men being into ladyboys are not gay forum topics.

    I beg to differ.
  7. I think just dealing with women will make you bisexual if not homosexual!

Any man who is attracted to ladyboys is Homosexual, it's reckoned that about 80% of them have not had the chop, so does that mean their customers get a look see first? The ones who are supposed to be not Homosexual?

  8. They are all very good, it is down to what you like the look off and your budget, twist and go is by far the easiest to drive and they are great bikes.

Just one piece of advice. I bought a new Honda Wave 7 years ago, great bike, but make sure you get branded name tyres on it, I didn't, and had about 12 punctures in the first 3 months, I then changed to Mitcheline, problem solved.

Where so you buy brand name tires for Clicks etc?

I didn't know you couldn't get branded name tyres for Clicks. What make of tyres do they have? I bought a customised Fino about 6 months ago, and have not had any punctures yet.
  9. If you just need a border crossing, I went with the one in the Queen Vic restaurant on Soi 6, 2500 baht I think. It was nice, only 6 passengers, headphones.

If you need a double entry tourist, I went to BKK Hua Lampong train station, to Nong Khai (about 900 for 2nd class bottom sleeper AC, very nice). Then Nong Khai tuk tuk to the bridge, one night in Lao and done. Plenty on here about it.

Yes, I was there today with them, excellent service, but don't use the Queen Vic Guesthouse, the fridge is rubbish, very small and not cold enough.
  10. Oh please spare me, thai children are some of the most undisciplined children I know of, the parents are children just like them, they have no parenting skills and have never been taught any. Most are taken to grandma and dumped off for most of their lives with no education or moral support. Again bs answers from people that dont live here.

I wholeheartedly concur - terribly undisciplined children here, parents adopt too much of the Mai pen rai attitude, they laugh when a kid breaks something or pokes a dog in the eye, i guess you can only expect the cycle to continue.!!sad.png

Either the sum of your time living here is in months or you are talking about the kids you meet when taking mother back home in Nakhon Nowhere from her bar.

Thai kids are 100 times better behaved in general than British or American ones.

A lot of Thai kids are spoiled, just like in other countries, sometimes because of these adult idiots who give up their seats to school kids and younger on buses and the skytrain. I mentioned kids here, not elderly folk etc.
  11. I suppose it all depends on their 'brung-up-ness'.

However I feel that in comparison to UK, especially in restaurants, I have experienced more little brats being allowed to run around the place creating noise and havok while the parents seem to totally ignore them. A couple of times I have managed to time it right as they pass the table I stand up to go to the toilet and somehow they manage to trip over my foot. I make a good show of saying sorry to the parents and it seems to do the trick. They are either kept at the table or they piss about well away from mine.

    Good one Overherebc.
  12. You mention you do not want a second hand bike but I recommend you consider a slightly used Honda PCX 125.

They are popping up in the sale ads for around 55,000Bt , maybe less.

You can buy brand new for less than that, and I mean Wave, Fino etc

  14. AirAsia is a cheap airline and they have to play mind games with you to get the most money out of a ticket. Doesn't show a lot of integrity on their part as an airline carrier. Their booking maze is designed to frustrate you and force you to give up and pay unnecessary money on seats, insurance, and my pet peve, luggage. They are programed to get every little baht out of you. I will only fly AirAsia if it is the only choice. How did they become Skytrax airline of the year?

  15. Obesity statistics. Here are the top ten countries for obesity. You note Thailand doesn't feature. In the statistics I saw, Thailand was not among the 28 countries listed.

    Rank Countries opacity.gifAmount down.gif

    # 1 us.gifUnited States: 30.6%

    # 2 mx.gifMexico: 24.2%

    # 3 uk.gifUnited Kingdom: 23%

    # 4 lo.gifSlovakia: 22.4%

    # 5 gr.gifGreece: 21.9%

    # 6 as.gifAustralia: 21.7%

    # 7 nz.gifNew Zealand: 20.9%

    # 8 hu.gifHungary: 18.8%

    # 9 lu.gifLuxembourg: 18.4%

    # 10 ez.gifCzech Republic: 14.8%

Clearly the Tongans and Samoans have been left out!

Oh yes another stat lover... It may not be as in the U.S or the U.K but it is growing but while in BKK the hi-so ones try their best to keep in shape the ones in the south seem to have given up on that project.

In general Thai people don't like to walk and the reason for that is beacuse it's too hot. rolleyes.gif

So Thai people don't like to walk, maybe so, but if they are so lazy, why do so many of them give up their seats to 5 year olds on the skytrain? Also, why do so many stand when there are lots of seats unoccupied?

Which country or rather planet are you from.

I have seen Thai men rush to get seats instead of offering them to elder folks, pregnant women and people who are carrying far too much for one person.

Where I come from we are taught to respect elders, pregnant and kids but I take it you didn't know that or you haven't traveled enough to see that.

There are those with manners and there are those who don't understand the concept of manners but what that has to do with obesity is beyond me.

I am only talking about kids here, not elderly folk etc. If any other posters would give up their seats to 5 year olds, please let me know.

  17. I have been drinking and driving for some 35 years never been a problem it's not drunk driving that causes accidents it's drunk AND stupid driving , imo. Most drunk driving accidents have speeding or running a red light ect involved , driving drunk and obeying the road signs and traffic lights ect is not as unsafe as all that. It's drunken kids all hyped up with no experience that started the whole problem in the first place not adults driving home from the bar at night. I do however drive more slowly and carefully because I realise my reaction time is a little slower.

Is it a good thing or something to brag about probabbly not but it's also not some big thing to get worked up over either.

I would love to see the charge of drunk driving be changed to one of "Attempted Murder " in my opinion getting behind the wheel of a vehicle whilst drunk is nothing short of attempted murder.

    It most certainly is Rabc.
  18. The government needed to improve safer transportation systems and people should have convenient pathways for walking or bicycling so they can exercise and enhance their well-being, he said.

In my area, footpaths are so crowded with vendors that it is often necessary to walk on the roadway, and risk being run down by road traffic. Footpaths are so crowded and in such poor condition that they constitute a major health hazard in themselves. There are few parks in which to seek tranquility and passive recreation. Bicycle paths have reverted to vendor stalls without enforcement of their status as bicycle paths. Noise and other types of pollution are unrestrained. The list of factors militating against good physical and mental health are voluminous. One wonders what priority administrations place on people's health, other than throwing megabaht at treatment, rather than prevention of disease.

There actually is something Thailand is doing to give people exercise if they want it. there is fitness equipment in parks all over the country. I use them five days a week.
