  1. I bought my bike new, but if I wanted to get a used bike, I would try Collinbourne, since as I said before, its rather easy to buy, without running all around Bkk or further to try and save a few baht, and end up paying more. Also, if its not registered in Chonburi, it will cost you a bit more, and I just dont like running around doing paper work, = Lazy!

    i agree on paperwork

i just give it the agent on sukhumvit

    let them work it out

Hi blackman. It would be helpful if you could be more specific. Sukhumvit, as you will know, is a very long road and "the agent" ????? Maybe you meant "Let US work it out."

ok , its been discussed here many times before

some members have even posted pictures of the premises

however, its on the pattaya forum so its gonna be on the sukhumvit road section of Pattaya

its actually between pattaya klang and pattaya nua

its on the left side headed to bangkok

its sited almost opposite where the up ramp to the new motorway out of town leaves sukhumvit road

its got a sign outside with a big gear cog on it

it has a double shop front entrance with a visible ramp and pit

they will tax, examine, test, register and deal with most issues regarding the legality of cars and motorbikes in this province or any other

    have i been helpful?

To add to what Blackman said.

I registered a car via them from out of the area back end of last year. Paid the money. Got the book No hassles.

There was a delay of a couple of days but not down to them, it was down to the office in BKK where the car was registered.

  2. Morning

I was in CMB airport twice over last three weeks to/from LHR.

First flight Business Class so was put in Business/VIP Lounge , very roomy and excellent staff in the lounge, my transit was 3 hours so took a walk around Terminal and found it very roomy with lots of shops and food outlets.

It was not at all busy and the size of the Transit lounge is adequate, lots of quiet areas to sit

The main reason is only a few flights operate ex CMB every hour unlike other transit points AUH/DXB,

On the return had a 10 hour stopover and was put in the Redwing Beach resort for my duration some 20 mins from airport all free , although both sectors were business class on Sri Lanka

I found Sri Lanka an excellent carrier , service was excellent

Of course going via CMB you avoid the hassle of transit at AUH/DXB and DOH. .

    Enjoy yourself

    .

    Very informative.

Thanks for takling the time to reply with that information.

  3. No special hassles, it's not Changi, it's not even Chiang Mai, it's old but it's functional and all the basic facilities are there. Can't say about wash and brush up though - I rather doubt it.

Colombo airport is very small, just a few duty free shops and a couple of restaurants, at least one of which supplies alcohol. If your stopover is longer than 8 hours then Sri Lankan usually put you up in a hotel.

I seem to remember there was a place there to have a shower but it's been a couple of years. The last time I was there security was a lot more stringent and we had to go downstairs and queue to go through the security check which was an absolute zoo so watch out for this and don't leave it late.

I always found the Sri Lankan flights very good, modern aircraft, okay food etc.

My son passed through Colombo airport two months ago, and was slightly surprised by the number of people in the Men's washroom, who were using the bum-guns to take a full-shower. laugh.png alt=laugh.png>

I can agree with the all the above posts. Small functional airport, nothing to remember, which for an airport is often a good thing. Getting around Columbo is a bit more confusing, but the people are helpful and friendly.

    Don't expect much.

    Thanks for the info.

Gives me some idea of what to expect.

Obviously a lot better than the Mumbai nightmare was on my last trip.

  4. That is one mad / bad man. A real nut job

Driven over the edge? Who knows but in a similar vein to what Walking Man says in an earlier post, it did look like he was so happy with that little jig after he had shot them both.

Guns and problems do not mix. It is too easy IMO to use the gun and not really even think about it (in some cases).

Yes, the sooner he is off the streets, the better. He could not have simply walked out of all this and got on with his life?

  5. Signal quality is what counts, not strength.

Unfortunately every receiver has a different way reporting strength, so you need to know the box to know what percentage is good and what becomes borderline.

Vinasat actually has pretty strong transponders, but as the elevation is lower then for example Thaicom, the distance to the satellite is bigger.

No problem for strength/quality, apart from the fact you have a higher percentage chance of somewhere having a downpour going through the line of sight between your dish and the satellite.

It is actually the raindrops creating rain fade, not a wet dish. Very often signal will drop out due to rainfade while it's not even raining where you are but somewhere far away.

The lower the elevation, the further away a rainstorm can be to influence your reception. With a very high elevation, the rainstorm virtually has to be on top of you to cut out signal.

Only one thing which helps, is a bigger dish. Every extra dB gain doubles your reception!

A 90 cm solid dish will already see a big improvement, with a 120 cm dish I doubt you'll see much rainfade at all.

We're talking solid offset dishes just like you have now, only bigger. The big black mesh ones are not much good for Ku band, I guess you need almost 2 sizes bigger to get the same gain compared to offset solid!

Thanks Monty, I asked the installer about putting a larger dish but typically it was another thai with no clue, first wanting to install the dish behind some trees and when I asked about a larger dish he replied "big dish make no difference mister" I just gave up at that point and let him complete the install.

I will wait to see how much effect rain fade will have but will probably up the dish size, BTW any recommendations of a shop to buy a larger dish ?

Would an in-line signal booster help minimise effects of rain fade or are these only to minimize losses from long cable runs ?

Good to know the mesh ones are not much good as I was actually looking at these yesterday, that bit of advice has probably saved me from a bad purchase.

Sukhumvit Road heading between Klang & Thai on the left. Nearer to Thai than Klang.

Slow down near the new big bike shop and you will see some sat dishes on a low wall. They have a variety of dish sizes.

    95% sure their phone number is 038427869 - 70

The guy in reception speaks some English but he does have a contact who speaks very good English on the phone.

  6. Pedestrians and drivers will have different takes on this topic.

Any who walk AND drive the area?

My rant was as a ped. so i guess selfish and uncalled for.

Makes me think how cars change things at an expense.

Will it really make a big difference for traffic (and not just a new parking lane?)

AND could there not have been better solutions for drivers and pedestrians alike?

Did they eliminate the benches to keep people from hanging out?

    DESPICABLE ?

or good idea for all the families that come to pat to see the beach, bwahahahahaha?

Or, if they are making that a parking lane, the Thai will do what they usually do and use their trucks as places to sit and sleep.

though it may be a little on the hot side even for them.

  7. My recent booking with Sri Lankan states the credi card holder must be present, but they do have a part that also asks if the person named on the ticket is the same as on the card.

Some must allow you the alternative option.

I'd ask by phoning them - especially their home county base or an english base, get a name and e-mail them for confirmation.

  8. Note to self:

Get a trusted friend to clean up the porn, the "marital aids", the condom wrappers, and the other items in the apartment that would be an embarrassment to the family in case of my demise. Trigger my smartphone to call him if it doesn't get used in 12 hours....before the battery dies. (Now, there's an app that I'd gladly pay for)

It's not just in the movies.

RIP to the victim, and condolences to the family.

Nah, leave them all out on show for the photographers and then they can say 'what a lucky b*stard, still shagging away at that age!'

Sounds better to me by far ;)

  9. At 71 years of age I see no problem with him having some Veetab (not heard of that one before). Shows he still wanted to enjoy a full life.

As said by others, people age 71 die all the time and no need for the press to have to include the sex aid pharmacy. What about heart meds or whatever but that seems too much to ask of the reporters.

71, he had a long life and I hope he enjoyed it to the full.

  10. That is a fair way out from the general nightlife.

Straight down to Beach Road from there (2.5 kms) will have you on the edge of Beach road and Walking Street. There is a big LCD type screen at the start of walking stree so you cannot miss it. (circled on the map) You being A.

Just before that is 2nd Road. (Pattayasaisong on the map). Here there are Baht Buses will take you on a loop up 2nd Road, down onto Beach Road and back again (careful to try make sure they are on the loop and not turning off). 20 Baht for the round trip. 10 Baht up 2nd Road itself. Flag down a moving one - do not get on one in a queue wink.png
