Do you have a cesspit? That could be the answer.
If no cesspit obviously ignore this

I popped into my local sat shop and he says another week!
Still, I can always go to the pub and watch the games
Yes, yes, replying to my own post.....
Had a word at my usual bar last night for watching football and they seemed to have no idea true had even lost the EPL !!
Sigh, had to explain about CTH and got blank looks.
Now then, what was that I foolishly said about watching footie in the bar??

But, hey man, I look sooooooooo cool in my shades!
I want you to see me, not me look at your visage.
Wait, I'll take my sunglasses off to see what I've typed......
I have prescription glasses that are dark so I do not have to change so often. I do not need to carry around extra glasses. It has nothing to do with appearance
It's all in the humour

Used them once a few years ago without any drama. A seat on a plane and something to eat if you wanted it. Don't expect too much and you will be rarely disappointed...
Yes, to get there and back (or there, in my case), on time and in one piece is all that is really required.
Thanks for the input.

Wow - you're a brave man
Of course. Good ole Yorkshire stock

As promised here's my experience.
Jet Airways were an absolute bargain for the fare of 30k. Nice clean planes, personally I liked the food, cabin crew were friendly and all legs arrived on time except for the arrival in BKK which was 10 minutes late.
Now the downside. Going to the UK the transit through Mumbai was a nightmare. Organised chaos would be a complement to describe the huge line of passengers that were separated into male and female lines which each had only one scanner each. It took forever and airline agents came along the line frantically searching for passengers caught in the queue and holding up flights. Security staff were stressed and unhelpful. They ran out of security tags for the cabin bags and I had to leave the line to go and find some more myself. Passports and boarding passes were checked a total of six times. However returning to Thailand we were very lucky, Breezed through transit as they had a full compliment of scanners working. However as I went through the body scanner I took at the queue and it snaked back out of view.
Would I use Jet again? Maybe if I was on my own. Wifey said never again as she hated the Mumbai experience. Maybe if both legs go through Delhi
It's a shame that as excellent value airline is tarnished by the airport you transit through.
That has been my experience twice in Mumbai.
Delhi is supposed to be much better.

A nice, quick arrest by the BiB

Quote.....
She also expressed her concerns over the well-being of Thais living overseas, adding that she has instructed the Interior and Foreign Ministries to look after them and assist them when necessary....
Would this involve bribes being handed out to schools, teachers, government officers, police officers and many others to smoothe the students way through life?

We went to the Big Buddah Temple. 20 Baht for flowers, joss sticks and gold leaf and we made merit to Buddah 20 Baht each to the monk to get his blessing.
There's something wrong there.
Why?
That is the way very many Thai people do it.
The 20 Baht each is a donation. You do not have to give it.
Besides this is not really on topic, the topic itself is about managing on less than 50K per month. I was merely showing a few examples of daily life that do not cost a fortune..

Never, thanks.
I am English born and bred and will always consider myself so. I do not want to be anything else.
Accepting the ways of the indiginous people wherever I am is a different matter entirely.

Relatively expensive. Try Localphone
But they do not mention calling the U.K. from Thailand?
Calls into Thailand @ 1.8 c but that is different.

Under 50K including rent and the woman who lives with me.
We drink and go out too.
As ever, it all depends on your lifestyle. Do you want to live like a millionaire or a normal everyday person?
Today - for example - We went to the Big Buddah Temple. 20 Baht for flowers, joss sticks and gold leaf and we made merit to Buddah 20 Baht each to the monk to get his blessing. Rode around town a bit and down to Beach Road on the m/c before going for a coffee each at a whopping 66 Baht for 2 coffees. Then back home.
Thursday we will be out listening to music and drinking beer. Nothing flash. A few large leo's at 65 Baht each, some chat with friends and off home.
Friday off shopping to BigC and Makro.
Nothing expensive at all. But you do not need money to be happy IMHO. Good company, a few beers when needed or simply at home watching good English television. The internet, reasonable home cooked food and such like.
Sometimes off to Bang Saray for a visit to a sea food restaurant or nipping down to Jomtien for a stroll along the beach.
Life as one long holiday, throwing money about? No thanks. I'm happy as i am.

I have to ask in all of your examples of seeing bodies in the road, did you ever stop to help? Check and make sure people okay or did you drive on with mai pen rai attitude.
I live in North Isaan and have never seen a body in the road, many dogs most of which I have moved out of the road and into the side for safety (and yes all were dead).
Just curious.
I too have never seen an unnatended body in the road except for the odd drunk at the wayside. Once or twice I've seen bodies covered with sheets - m/c riders - but they have had people there attending to them.
It does seem odd that one person can see so many bodies simply laid in the road.

Why is this news? I'm sure people get caught stealing from 7/11 hourly in this country considering they have 345454654756 locations
345,454,654,756 that many 7/11s in Thailand.
That is about as news worthy as the whole article.
Must have been a slow day for the Pattaya News or killings are getting so common they are not newsworthy any more.
"...or killings are getting so common they are not newsworthy any more." Lousy thing to say. I think that you have been exacerbating too much. Makes one's brain go soft you know...
Would that make him an exacerbationist?
Is that legal here?
Do you do it with or without clothes on?
My mind boggles

In the main the value of the Farang here is for what financial gain they can make out of us.
Yes, there are many Thai people who are genuine but markets, police, government, car repairs ..... the list goes on and on ..... are all hoping to make a few extra Baht out of us. And that is what we are, a few extra Baht.
Cynical? Maybe. Yet I found it can take a long time to find genuine Thai people who are not after that extra few Baht, yet they do exist.
Market stalls .... Many charge extra but not all, so I use those that charge the Thai price.
Police.... Many after a few extra Baht for their pockets, but not all. I've been fed and watered at no cost to me by some Thai police.
Women.... better not go there but there are genuine, honest women too that are happy with our company.
I was once in a situation where I was cut up by a Thai in a Fortuner and he wanted to kill me - until he met 'the family'
I have been spat at by other Thai m/c for nothing other than being in their way at a road junction.
Yet, I had a lawyer who worked on a case for me for free. We won the case too. All it cost me were the court fees.
To the genuine Thai people, we are simply people like them and we are treated as such.
To the rest, we are simply allowed here and tolerated - or not, in many cases.

airlinequality gives them 2-stars, compared to 3-stars on Sri-Lankan and Jet.
skyscanner are showing Air India, at about B15k one-way early-mid-August, might be preferable ?
skyscanner.... thanks, I'd forgotten about that site after not flying or searching for flights for a long time
-
I can see the fares to the U.K. from BKK are cheap.
What about the airline itself? Any reports on them? Anyone used them?
via TAS Tashkent, Uzbekistan
with a 2hr 30 min stopover.
Cheaper than Sri Lankan and Jet Airways
Problem is I may need a 1 way flight in August (middle of the summer holidays in the U.K.) and need a cheap flight
-
As I recall when informing the airline (cannot remeber which one - but I think was Etihad) I could not fly the 2nd leg. Economy seat too.
I got the taxes refunded but not the cost of the actual fight.
Is this ticket never going to be used in that name? The reason I ask is that, yes, you get 1 free change but you could always talk to them to use it at a future date beyond that and pay whatever the premium is (under the same name, of course).

You want to make calls to land lines with standard STD codes or to mobile phones?
From your mobile phone to a landline with an STD code (01642 for example) I'd use a CAT phonenet card. Cost 2 Baht per minute but you must use a minimum 200 Baht card. ( With the 100 Baht card, calls cost more.)
To a mobile they charge 6 Baht per minute.
http://www.thaitelephone.com/EN/RateTable/index.php
^^^ for prices as of 09 July 2013
Buy at any CAT shop (one on Pattaya Thai).
Yes, it uses VOIP but I've never had a problem making calls to family, friends, the bank etc.
