  1. Khao Talo has a few places recently built and new ones going up. 'The Mountain' condo (Almost opposite Khao Talo 5) s one example. Now there are signs hanging from windows showing many are for rent. There is an office to go visit to ask how much to buy.

There are houses (bungalows) a-plenty for sale in the estates off Khao Talo generally in the 1.2 million range. Or rent from 6-9,000 Baht p.m.

Personally I have found living here off Khao Talo is more expensive than on the other side of Sukhumvit road. Market prices are higher than their counterparts. The traffic is terrible mornings and afternoons (from 4 p.m. onwards).

Flood water rushes down Khao Talo when it rains. It is like driving through rapids.

I am not saying ALL the dark side is more expensive, but am talking here off Khao Talo.

I'd go and have a good look around and maybe stay there for a while before making any kind of committment.

  2. Where to start and a lot depends on bars only / music bars (music loud / quiet).

For the food and seedier part combined - Beer Garden near the entrance to Walking Street (go-go bars etc). The Beer garden juts out into the sea and as you eat you can look along the seafront or up to the lights on the hill. Walking Street is safe enough. Simply take care as you would in any go-go area. (Beers can be expensive in the go-go bars.

    Rock music?

Beach Road :- S0i 8 area - Lucky Corner bar (soi 7) not too loud & is on Beach Road. No hassle from the ladies.

    - Poker bar less than 100 metres away. No hassle. Not too loud.

We are the world Bar (soi 8) No Hassle. Not too loud.

Behind this is Cloud 9 - louder wink.png No Hassle.

Soi 8 off Beach Road also has go-go bars - ladies sit on your lap for 90 Baht lady drinks (that is cheap).

2nd Road Toi Bar. Small & very loud Rock. Up near Soi 3? And on the way to Drinking street mentioned ^^^.

18 Coins on Soi Buakhao - good food. Great breakfast IMHO.

Soi 6 off Beach Road, has cheap food, ladyboys and go-go bars.

LK Metro (Soi Buakhao area) Has go-go bars like Champagne a-go-go, The office too.

A LOT more but we do need a location smile.png

edit - fat fingers + small keys = typos :P

  3. I know one thing the doctor will want to do as soon as I get back to my home country and that is to get me on the new 3in1 pill for heart problems. He talked of it over 2 years ago.

There is IMO a lot said for and against the use of Statins. I have had a lot of earache from some over the statins I take.

Yet, before i started to take statins my cholesterol lever was over 10. Heart attack level. Now it hovers around 4 to 5.

I was working on my house in the UK and while laying floorboards and doing other work in the kitchen I had chest pains. i put it down to gas when I was bent over..

I went to the local council yard to get rid of building rubbish and the pains began again.

Straight to the doctors who checked my heart rate - seemed OK.

Sent on to the hospital where they put me on the treadmill. Less than 2 minutes later they had me sat in a chair and in a hospital bed soon after.

    Imminent heart attack !!

They had me walking around the ward with a special monitor attached. Any problems and the alarm would sound.

My end point being that before Statins, I had really bad cholesterol levels. Since statins the cholesterol has been in check.

I am one of those who produce a lot of cholesterol and statins stop me doing that.

Regular blood tests to make sure everything else is working fine.

Diet? I still produce too much cholesterol.

Each to their own but i'd rather have Statins than another heart attack, thanks.

  4. I've had 2 Fino's and never ever had a problem with them.

Get on, start it and away I / we go.

I added a box to the rear for shopping - much better than a basket at the front.

The thing is, some people have a bad experience with a small bike and condemn them after that.

I'd agree with the sentiment posted earlier.... Let her choose which one.

  5. Sorry Jack, my mistake. TOT is using a home-brew style of firmware. you likely will wreck your router when you flash official tp link firmware onto it.

SSL certificates are usually valid for two years. Ether tot don't bought one at all or it has expired.

On a website i wouldn't click proceed, in you home network? never mind.

No worries Jake even though I've not accomplished what I set out, I've learnt something from this.

I'll leave well alone and if it ain't broke...

Thanks Jake! and PD! My apologies if I've somewhat hijacked your thread.

No problems at all with your added input to the thread., Especially if it has helped solve your problem.

  6. edit for the above post.........

When I logged in with the new p/w that was fine. But and maybe worth noting that unless you close your browser down, (in my case) it logged back in automatically without having to enter the new password.

Therefore, close your browser before going onto the internet if you have been in there and poking about.

So, thanks for the additional info added to this topic.

  7. I have been and checked and the passwords were admin / admin.

When I went to change the p/w itself I got the message :-

A username and password are being requested by http://192.168.1.1. The site says: "TD-W8961ND"

Next I logged out of the router and back in again and gave it the new p/w I had entered. That worked fine.

I told Firefox NOT to remember the password but it now logs in automatically anyway, as it did with admin / admin. That obviousy is something I do not want.

So the security problem is still there?

  8. If you have a friend in the UK you could always get your free giffgaff SIM sent to them and have them forward it on. Just before you leave charge up with £10 and have a month's service including:

    500 minutes to any network

    500 texts

    1 Gb data

They use the O2 network, which isn't the best but certainly served us well. Really worth checking out as it is an outrageous deal.

    Thanks for that.

I'm happy to be able to pick a sim card up on arrival and us that. If I can pick up a virgin one, all the better, I have credit on one that can be transferred.

Really just to keep in touch with people UK side while I am there and give them updates on my arrival time so they can pick me up in the car and have my dinner ready on time ;).

  9. There are many numbers available from the UK (using a land line) to phone Thailand numbers.

    Simply google ;-

    cheap calls UK to Thailand

Calls start from 0.5p per minute.

Often a LOT cheaper to use the land line in the UK than a mobile as mobile companies charge more for the connection fee.

Ask your (their) telephone company if they charge for connection to these low cost numbers. Often a 10p connection fee. But it varies between companies.

In Thailand itself, I still prefer CAT telecom card for phoning the U.K.

Depends where in Thailand you are staying if they have a CAT telecoms office.

Buy a minimum 200 Baht card (never the 100 Baht card - as the calls cost more).

They come with clear instructions in English too.

2 baht per minute to a UK land line.

6 Baht per minute to a UK mobile number.

web site for call charges around the world from CAT.....

    http://www.thaitelephone.com/EN/RateTable/index.php

    Hope that helps you decide.

  10. They are everywhere.

Bar stool politicians, know alls etc.

These people like to ram their ideas and *cough* knowledge down others throats.

Yes, I walk away from them, their ideas and their attitudes. Sometimes with a cutting remark as I get up to leave the topic / bar stool / room.

We all have our own ways, ideas and thoughts, but we should not be intransigent. We should be open to other ideas but not to ideas that are being rammed down our throats.

None of us are perfect and we can never stop learning - well, most of us laugh.png

  11. A wrong look in their direction, some minor incident or whatever. That is all that it needs these days.

I recently had a silly incident that could have turned into a fight. Turning left off Sukhumvit road a m/c 3 up tried to cut inside me as I turned. My first instinct was to curse the stupidity of the act.

No way they could hear me, but they saw the look on my face and me mouthing words. The driver of the m/c got in front of me and kept slowing, glaring at me. It was obviouys he was an angry man.

It was only due to one of his passengers actions that stopped him ( she kept shaking her head at him and shouting at him ).

After about 2 Kms he turned off with a venomous glare.

  12. In the image, the surf is still VERY small. It would hardly be a yellow flag in Australia.

I doubt many people would even bother trying to ride those waves as they are hardly big enough to do anything with.

Depends on the currents and the undertow on that particular stretch. Not really to do with the size of the waves. Waves you can dive through, under, over but the undertow can suck you down very fast.

Only idiots would ever go out into the sea when red flags are flying. They are there for a reason, not for decoration.

  13. I've been searching for flights and thought I'd mention Qatar Airways because of price and flight times.

A couple of things to note are arrival time (so I can reach final destination) Morning / early afternoon UK and the stopover times (who really likes waiting at airports).

Plus, of course - prices!! laugh.png

Flight BKK - London U.K. (One Way)

    September flights

Prices at 16800 Thai Baht (approx) or £346 @ 47 Baht to £1

    Shortest stopover 1hr 45 mins to 4hr 15 mins

Compared with Jet airways / Air India / Sri Lankan

    Sri Lankan £348 / Stop 2hr 15 min.

Air India has 7+ hours stopover at £323

Jet Airways prices much higher £100+ higher (I find that odd for Jet).

Yes, I used skyscanner too + Kayak / Kelkoo and a variety of other searches.

Anyway ^^^ posted in case anyone looking for flights in Sept.
