New Hospital or not ? i think very good.
Not so good when an overcharge of 850 Baht is laid.
And a doctor who mumbles through everything.
I did see the Doctor I saw previously and the g/f made a note of his name. The next appointment will be changed to get to see him.
Cannot fault the nursing staff.
-
OP - no separate charge for seeing the doctor or was that included in the "Nursing" charge?
No separate charge for the Doc. Yes, it looks like it is in the nurse charge.
I have to admit I'm happy with the 'genuine' cost

i went to Pattaya City Hospital on Soi Buakhoa this morning for chest X-ray and blood tests.....
Reception desk- Very good.
Triage staff - Very good. Very helpful about how long the waiting times. Even said we could go for coffee as X-ray nopt open for another 30 minutes.
Blood test - No problems
X-ray - No problems.
1 hour wait for blood test results. That was quick.
The Doctor - Never agin with that doctor. first he was asking the G/F about me and my health (should be asking me).
He spoke to the computer monitor in a low voice so I could not hear him. G/F told him I am deaf on one side and asked him to speak up. He continued to mumble, so I have no idea what he said. Have to go back in 2 months but I'll not see him.
The Pharmacy - Very efficient.
The Cashiers desk - Very bad. They tried to charge me 850 Baht extra (in fact a double charge for the X-ray and blood tests). When I and the g/f explained and showed them they had been paid for teh X-ray and bloods, they still wanted paying again!!
Sorted eventually, but if I had not known how much the medication was, I could have paid an extra 850 Baht .
Costs.....
Chest X-ray 220 Baht
Blood test (lipid - for cholesterol liver etc.) 580 Baht
Drugs 3 prescriptions @ 2 months supply 300 Baht
Nursing charge 100 Baht.
Very reasonable costs

I take back what I said ^^^^ about Cisse and his stance on the payday loan advertising.
It certainly looks as if he is being a 2 faced so n so using his religion to make the stance. A photo of him gambling in a casino and confirmation from the casino and other witnesses who say that it is him has emerged.
If gambling is against his religion - a religion he fervently adheres to, according to him - as is usury, then he should not be gambling either.
Definitely 2 faced.

Not often I chat online about NUFC...... That is usually done on nights out with friends who can take the p*ss out of me about NUFC
Right now, I feel the club is in a mess. The whole structure from Ashley downwards is pathetic.
We still have no big name signings, or any signings of note at all - Kinnear having been working so very hard while on holiday
We do not know who is really in charge of what at the club and that is not good for the team.
Harford? What can you say except it does seem as if there is an underlying trend to get Pardew out, or at least to undermine him. Thankfully Harford declined the offer.
Cabaye - if the reports are to be believed - he may well be on the way to Man U in the near future if they up their bid from £15m.
Cisse - I can understand where he is coming from and that I can see he is going too.
The list of shambolic goings on at this proud club make any good supporter dismay and I do worry for the future of the club as things stand presently
I really wish someone would buy Ashley out, someone who cares for the club and wants it to do well.
sigh

1) You can take your bike for I believe 250 baht and only on certain boats so check ahead.
2) Napuk resort is 600 baht with AC and near beach.
3) Send me a message if you need any assistance.
The Buddha statue on the southern hill ( don't know the name) is quite nice as a vantage point. There are lots of boats and tours: monkey island , koh sak fishing and so on. the weather is rough at the moment, so you better do not get sea-sick easily.
Most of the beaches are packed with Chinese, Russian and Indian day trippers. One some of the beaches, you can't even swim because of the speed boats rushing all around. Really dangerous.
Others can jump in, but I can't imagine there's anything to do after the day boats are gone. There are a few places to take the scooter, but not many, and not very far.
Personally, I'd head over for the day and check it out first. Easy enough to do.

Thanks for that. I do appreciate the input and also the offer from Udonthani1
From the sounds of it, I might change my ideas and find a different island to go to.
As I said, it is a long time since I was there. It may well be that my memory of the place is mixed up with elswhere from when I used to travel around a lot, often guided by a Thai at the time.
In those days you could park on beach road and sleep in the truck!!
Maybe a re-think is in order

Another sacrifice is not seeing my 2 grandchildren grow and develop.
Getting photos and updates is not the same as being there and watching events as they unforld.

Posting this in Patts forum more for local knowledge more than anything.
It is a long time since I went over to the island so I have a few questions about a few days break there.
1) I can take my own m/c?
2) Where to stay :-
Near the beach with Air con (does not have to be plush). Want to walk the beach of an evening sometimes.
With some nightlife nearby (within walking distance or short m/c taxi ride -hopefully a bit of music)
3) Where to go on the m/c (anywhere special to go? If not, good beaches, food by the beach (candlelit?)
Any good view / vantage points to take photos from / sit and enjoy the view type of thing.
4) Any good boat rides around the island itself?
Anything else of interest?
I do not want to sit in a bar drinking beer daytime but evenings are fine for beer
Thanks for any decent input.

People who beat their children have limited intelligence and are unable to communicate to a level where the children can understand.
The more quality time you spend with your children at an earlier age pay's off later in life through higher than average grades and common sense.
Children are a blank canvas and it's up to the parent to instill the values needed for life, if done correctly corporal punishment is rarely needed.
The children will know the difference between right and wrong and try to help others onto the same path.
Sometimes you will get a dysfunctional child through parent neglect or alcohol/drug misuse in pregnancy with leads to "special needs". These children can sometimes disrupt the class and other students and maybe in some cases there is no reasoning with them so they need a one to one teacher or occasional a slap works.
A lot of generalising here as it's not a specific science with children.
Every child is different but they all need love and attention.
CCC
If all children are a 'blank canvas'.....
What about the Moors Murderers?
The Bulger killings?
Jack the Ripper
to name a tiny few.
Murderers, Rapists, Child molesters.....
Hetrosexuals, Lesbians, Homosexuals.......
If they are all a blank canvas at the start, what sort of upbringing did these people have to make them this way?
Is / are all the above down to good or bad parenting? I doubt it very very much.
Much of what is within us and in the animal kingdon too is what is passed down to us from our parents via genes.
Parenting is about guiding your offspring to the best of your ability using the rules and boundaries you aspire to.
Yet if a child or a person is evil or plain bad there is often little you can do about it.
Many a decent parent has thrown their hands up in despair at their thieveing, car twocking, bullying, murdering, raping offspring. And the offspring are not ALL this way because of the way they are reared.

On a similar subject...
What is the story of the farang outside Central
Painted in silver
surely he needs a work permit
or is that scamming,begging
He's not working.
He's just standing there, covered in silver paint.
And it's not begging either, it's street art.
Saw many of these in Amsterdam when I used to travel there regularly. Personally I quite like them, some can be very good. At least he is making some effort and not begging in teh bars or pestering people.

I recently taught my local 'chef' how to make real batter, which is no great mystery, the challenge now is to find some good fish to stick inside it.
Until then, Deep Fried Mars Bars it is.
Frozen Pangasus loins from Makro about 80 (ish) baht a kilo, about 10 in a pack. Don't get the fillets, the fillet meat is too mushy, but the loins are a lot firmer and meatier.
They are about 9 inch by 1.5 inch and cut into 3 per loin are perfect for fish fingers. That's around 30 decent quality fish fingers for 80 baht (ish).. You can't beat that.
Or batter up about 3 whole loins and you got your decent battered fish.
Hope that helps.
Lovely tasting fish. We buy them regularly.

This morning, bacon, fried potato, tomatoes and fried eggs.
Fish, mashed tatties, cauliflowers, sweetcorn. On Thursday.
Tuesday, pork, mashed tatties and cauliflower, spinach and gravy.
I honestly do not see a lot of difference in many Thai meals apart from the use of chillies and rice.
They eat chicken, pork, beef (not so much), vegetables.

Many of us got a good caning at school.
The local policeman often gave people a cuff around the ear.
If you got into trouble and then told your parents you got it again.
That does not mean we turned into bullies, wife / children beaters. Nor that we suffered irrepairable damage either.
It was part of life.
As a general rule there was discipline in life.
Unlike now......
IMHO.
I'll add that I slapped my son twice across the top of the legs. Never had to do it again but he grew up to be a reasonably well adjusted man.

I definitely prefer the options here in the UK with so many different cuts available, I tend to buy thick cut back bacon when it's on offer in Asda. I visited my brother in the US a few times while he was living there and could only find wafer thin streaky bacon, 90% of which was smokey bacon. Not a fan.
EDIT: Sorry, sticking to topic, I never found anything close in Thailand, though the GF wouldn't let me go to Hard Rock in Pattaya.
Makro on Suk road have some good, lean bacon
Bacon, delicious food. Never had fake bacon though.

So, an - apparently drunk police officer - stops in the middle of the road, goes to sleep, causing road and traffic chaos. When he regains consciousness, he is allowed to drive home!!
This is absolutely disgusting behaviour by the Royal Thai Police.

The seaside - English style - the North Yorkshire moors, good cider and decent English rock music sang by people who know the words.
And the weekend trips down the pub.
Plenty more but ^^^ will do

Plus the holidays on Monday and Tuesday. It will be only the crazies who want to venture out in their cars after today until Wednesday.
Come to the seaside to see the traffic jams

yeah, and look .................there is a flying pig!
What do you call a herd of flying pigs?
Yeah, the day they sort all that out there will be flying pigs too.
It is definitely no fun trying to negotiate the path along beach road.

With the temple work also, these people obviously have no regard for the law at all or feel the law has no teeth.
I wonder how much it will cost them to keep the buildings as they are.....

re
two dry days
two days .. hmmmmmm
i think ive got enough to get through
dave2
You cleaned that part of the house well b4 the photo
You sure that is enough for 2 whole days? Breakfast, lunch, dinner and then evening too

Out will come the coffee mugs full of beer for those who cannot stay away
I'll be happy at home until the madness of traffic and people has subsided.

Or try the auction site? [Collingbournes] Not sure how long they take to pay you or how long you have to wait to sell goods.
I have seen a 2nd hand shop on Sukhumvit road but not sure of teh exact location. Left hand side heading out of Pattaya towards Sattahip.
