  1. I had an Australian PayPal account for many years and I wanted to keep it so had to open new one here with a new email addy as others have said. I linked it to my BBL Be 1st savings account but PayPal will not pay some items without a "backup" account. I just transferred cash from my Australian PayPal account to the Thai one and used the balance as primary payment with the BBL card as backup. Now I have a Thai credit card so it is the backup.

  2. I have lived here 4 1/2 years. I also came from Oz. Personally I would not buy straight up. I would rent and look around. I am in my 5th rental now. Moved for a variety of reasons.

As far as the smoke goes, yes it can get bad and I know people with health problems can suffer. I bought a cheapish air purifier from Homepro and run it 24 Hours a day in the bedroom with the doors and windows closed, obviously with AC on when sleeping. You certainly notice the difference when we exit the bedroom in the morning, but is pleasant for us at night.

To me a lot of where you live depends on what you want to do and how often and what mode transport you will own. I own a car and refuse to ride and motorbike as I never did in Australia and see the traffic here and how they drive. Our first house was great but just too far for my wife to get anywhere as she won't drive here. Songthaews and tuk tuks were not really available where we were. So we moved.

Not sure what hills you plan to live in but the hills to the west of CM has the airport at their base. 95% or more of flights take off to the north but soon turn east and then south. A recent thread had someone complaining about the noise and he lived in the San Sai district which the aircraft are at around 5 to 8000 feet so noise not so great. Our 2nd, 3rd and 4th house were directly under the flight path probably only about 2 kms from the end of the runway. They passed over us at 2500 feet at take off thrust so was considerably loud but we found we got used to it. Worst was when we were watching TV and the noise would drown the TV out.

    Hope this helps a bit.

  3. I once got a sonthaew from Loi Kroh road in Chiang Mai to the airport. A thai lady got on a few meters further on down Loi Kroh. We both went to the airport. She got out and I saw her pay the driver 20baht. I handed him 20 baht and he held up 2 fingers, so I gave him 40 baht. Nope he wanted 200 baht.

Early in my days in Thailand and taught me a lesson to ask before ride. I probably would have cared so much if I hadn't seen her pay 20. I am not a cheap Charlie, more like a Spender Spencer but have had to pull my horns in.

There's so many cheap charlie farangs in Thailand .....   They expect 5 star service for a three star price .....

    That's why I don't drink with farang ....    they are cheap.  !!

Not all but from what I have seen in bars it's most.

Chinese are worse. Talking to a bar owner who served great food he said a group Chinese came in and asked for glasses and ice then proceeded to bring out the beers they bought from 711. He thought they migh be going to order food so he let it go but when presented with menus they didn't want food either. Just sit, use his tables, glasses and ice and pay him nothing. So they were asked to leave. Guess he Los some good customers there.

The actual pressure compresses the liquid into a Gas

You can not compress a liquid you can only compress a gas. Liquid LPG is pumped (not compressed) into the cylinder. As you say only to the cylinder should only be filled to around the 80% mark. This allows the liquid to vaporise. As you mention the pressure exerted inside the cylinder is dependant in the temperature. Propane boils (turns to a gas at about -42C).

Another reason to only fill tank to 80% is the expansion volume of LPG. Can't remember the exact expansion from work but it's around 256 times. In other words 1 litre of liquid released at atmospheric pressure will produce 256 litres gas. An lpg appliance designed to handle a specific volume of lpg gas can not handle the expansion rate if liquid lpg enters it and hence explosions.

Can you see your fixed account in your online banking side? After i applied for credit card at bangkok bank and opened a fixed account, i tried to add it with ibanking to see it online but it didn’t work, i got the message i should contact my bank branch.
When you got you cards how did you activate them? By phone or online with ibanking? The staff told me i can do this only by phone?
I didn’t receive my card yet, still waiting

Sent from my iPhone using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

I had a problem with how long it took mine. It took a bank staff member from the credit card section to see my post on TV to sort out problem. When cards arrived (at different times) they called the activation centre from the bank and I had had to confirm a few details.

Back to the fixed account. When I got home after opening I did add it myself through the app. It added instantly. It showed the full balanced of the account. When my first credit card was activated I went online to add it. I then noticed my balanced showed 0 baht. Clicking on that account showed a ledger balance of the full amount but an available balance of zero.

i tried to add my first credit card and received an email telling me it would take 3 to 5 business days to add. A week later I tried again. Same email. Another week and my second credit card had arrived so I went to bank to collect it. I asked about adding to ibanking. Same story. So I explained to them what I had done. So a few phone calls to head office showed they did not add it because I had 2 passport numbers on my account. They asked me which was valid and showed me computer screen. I said this one expired five years ago and this one still current so I think this one is the valid one. So more paperwork and was told had to goto head office to remove old passport number. After done I will be able to add my cards. Said about 2 weeks. That was about 2 weeks ago so just waiting now.

A few months ago, I searched similarly in Chiang Mai for the thick-walled, high-pressure propane or MAPP tanks (as illustrated with your Bernzomatic image example) and compatible torch nozzles -- without success at all the big-box stores (HomePro, Global House) and specialty hardware vendors (e.g., the big one -- name forgotten -- at the southeast corner of the major intersection of Superhighway 11 and Chang Puak Road [highway 107]).

But I noticed quite a few stocked the thin-walled aerosol-style cans containing butane, commonly used for cooking burners, and about the same size and shape as insecticide and other aerosol sprays.   But nobody seemed to have a torch attachment to go with it to function as a soldering/brazing gun.

Finally, I got the idea to try the Amazon-style Lazada online store to discover it offers a huge variety of items that are hard to find.  Lo and behold, it had a number of butane torches designed to mate with the fittings on the widely-available butane cans:

    https://www.lazada.co.th/real-cook-kitchen-butane-flame-burnertorch-34698119.html?spm=a2o4m.searchlist.list.9.622c1e14uo1CGP

I bought it and it arrived promptly with free shipping, and worked great to solder some welding clamps to their 2-guage (24 mm2) welding/battery-jumper cables.

So unless you need the higher MAPP temperatures (see chart previously posted), the butane should work fine for most purposes.  Of course, these thin-walled butane cans don't seem as strong and as safe as the thick-walled propane tanks commonly available in the USA and probably elsewhere.

PS.  In the USA, at least, one can easily find torch heads that attach directly to the propane or MAPP tank, as well as those with several feet of gas tubing to allow the tank to sit on a bench or attached to one's belt.

Even though they burn at the same temp there is a big difference between the vapour pressures of butane and propane.

At 70f (21.1C) the vapour pressure of propane is 110psi while, at the same temp, butane is only 17 psi, hence the thicker walled propane cylinders. A mixture of the gasses results in lower than propane and higher than butane pressures.

Stupid ruddy forum software quoted you. Even I can't drive it properly.

I just wanted to stress that the LPG isn't butane (or pure propane).

    Ok no problem.

I worked st a Caltex oil refinery in Australia for 23 years. We sold pure Propane and pure butane in bulk. We we also selling a mix in bulk I think for use in cars. Can't remember blend ration or the name.

Others companies down the line probably did mixes.

No offence bud. Read your post and it was sad to hear that had happened. A few things I never quite understood. Main one being why you gave her 1 million baht to take your son back to look after him. You could have gotten top notch professionals for much less. When I myself read stuff like that it makes me sceptical on giving money. I do wish you luck but after asking people for help one should not flash anger if no one does. Life fact is people choose to help and do as its their right and choice to do so.

It has been and still is a very difficult situation and I guess a lot of people would not understand unless they are in the same situation. I am 62 and mum is 26. She "dumped" him on me and refused to take him back unless I paid 1 mill. I looked after him alone for 3 months. I applied for his Australian Citizenship to get his passport so he could go back to be adopted. I applied for this in May and has not long come through and I have now applied for his passport. Having a very difficult time with him I paid up and she took him. I thought, wrongly,  this the best alternative with her being his mum. But recently I noticed he had lost a lot of weight due to mum neglecting him. 2 weeks ago I took him back and he has now put on 1kg. He will got Australia for adoption in February.

I have never been a person to go for charity or handouts. Never had one day of the dole or anything like that in Oz. I worked for all my money. As I said in the article I have outlayed over 2 and a half million baht on him and has really made a huge dent in my savings. I saw GoFundMe so I thought I would give it a try.

Not sure where my anger was flashed but I am not a happy person right now with all that is happening. If you are referring to my above post I just find it amazing the number of postson someone not wearing a shirt and I put on a post and it is removed.

Yes, people can choose what they want to do and donate if they want. I have helped a lot of these people in the past and not even a word from them. Initially no one was even trying to help by sharing the post but that has since changed.

    SORRY TO HIJACK THREAD.

Its free if you spend a min of 5000 yearly on it as far as I can remember

Does anyone know how to get anything from the credit card points??

My documents arrived in Thai, I have loads of points to use but no idea how to use them

Don't know what the fees are. Goto the Bangkok Bank website and a lot is in English but goto the fees and charges page and is all in Thai.

My Visa gives me points for Thai Air and the Mastercard gives me points for Air Asia. I fly both but I think the Air Asia Mastercard best for me. The other will be put away.

No idea how to use points for other things.

For me, it's more of an aesthetics question. I have no problem with a guy who has a six-pack of abs and built like a Greek god going shirtless, or  women with cute butts wearing short shorts.

It's when I see a man of any nationality parading around with a belly bigger than his chest shirtless, or women with thighs like tree trunks complete with cellulite trying to wear shorts two sizes too small,  that I have to think they are totally unaware of how unappealing they look.

And you are a Greek god?
