If by "they" you mean the Embassy, no they cannot easily request and access this information. Social Security records and tax records for example are not available to them...in contrast to many European countries were Embassies can directly access State Pension rosters. Asking people to bring bring copues of such records with them raises the problem of authenticity as these could be photoshopped and there is no way for Embassy to authenticate. That is not to say there is no way to solve this but it would be complex and time consuming to do. What they could (and IMO should do) is outsource this to a private firm which charges for the service. Eben then private firm would face challenges in authenticating what is shown them.

Until recently you only had to to pay tax if money was brought into Thailand in the same year it was earned. This has now changed. That aside almost every country has a Double Taxation Agreement with Thailand and you need to read the terms of yours as each one varies. You will certainly be protected against double taxation but whether you should be taxed in Norway or Thailand (and on which income) will vary. Some Norwegians have mentioned preferring to be nonresident for tax purposes in n orway and paying in Thailand instead as taxes are lower here.

April International - some premium increase analysis

I haven't but this was because all my dealings were through a capable broker. Hopefully new broker will be OK. Brokers have direct lines to insurers that we mortals lack -

No, it was me. I got frustrated with their very inept admin staff (nothing sinister just young, inexperienced. Ditsy. Some barely speaking English.) -
Colonoscopy: St. Louis, MedPark or Bangkok Hospital?
Sheryl replied to Y Chang's topic in Health and Medicine
Yes, I get mine in the US under Medicare. Though I had it done once in Thailand before I became eligible for Medicare. -
Some lay people may call it this, but it is not a recognized medical term.

April International - some premium increase analysis
Sheryl replied to topt's topic in Insurance in Thailand
My agent at AA, Jenny, did notify me by email. But Jenny always did go above and beyond. (She has left AA). Regarding this AA World: - their website is still not operational, many months after the supposed shift of international policies from AA to them. - they failed to notify me when my annual premium was due (luckily I remembered on my own) Hence I looked for alternative. It is not wise to be without a broker and an unknown new entity in India that can't even get their website up and running or track premium due dates won't do. -
April International - some premium increase analysis
Sheryl replied to topt's topic in Insurance in Thailand
Having failed on thsi forum to get any firsthand recommendations, I did a web search for brokers located in France, figuring they would be best placed to deal with April. Among the top ones listed, only AOC seemed to specialize in expat policies, the others were focused on French nationals and foreigners IN France. I then contacted AOC and asked them if they were able to handle April policies and received a prompt reply as follows: "Yes, we can manage your international policy with April, whom we represent in France along with more than 30 other providers. We have dedicated contacts at April International, so it will be easier for you with our support." The reply came very quickly, even on a weekend, and they provided clear instructions on how to make the change, as well as a WhatsApp contact number to a specific person. SO, so far so good, but of course I will not really know until I need their help. -

AA no longer handles international policies. They handle April Thailand but not April France. Unfortunately. -
Colonoscopy: St. Louis, MedPark or Bangkok Hospital?
Sheryl replied to Y Chang's topic in Health and Medicine
Just time, convenience, communication. Also difficult in getting it done - lower level govt hospitals often cannot do it, would usually need to be a tertiary level hospital , and you may find they don't do it on demand nor for routine screening. Some exceptions to that especially in major cities. In Bangkok, I would recommend Chulabhorn. Experience of the operator is also a concern unless it is arranged directly with a senior doctor via after hours/special clinic. This is really not something you want a student or resident in training doing on you, both for reasons of safety and also accuracy of results. Contrary to what some havew posted in this thread, this is not a simple thing that anyone can do. A lot more involved than simply "sticking a tube up there". Handling an endoscope and passing it safely through curves and junctions in the intestine takes skill and experience, and understanding what one is seeing along the way takes even more. -
There is no type 1.5 All type 1 diabetics need insulin by definition. Some - -a minority -- of Type 2 diabetes do as well.

Understanding Thailand’s New Tax Directive on Foreign Income
Sheryl replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Actually the OP completely fails to discuss the tricky issue of savings - how defined and whether taxable. Many foreign retirees bring in savings accumulated over years of work in their home country, taxed at that time, and impossible to prove when exactly amounts saved were earned and whether/when taxed. Most people don't save tax records more than 10 years or so. Actually the new regulation does not specify income from employment or assets, it states "assessable income" which is a much broader category. -
Understanding Thailand’s New Tax Directive on Foreign Income
Sheryl replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
To my reading, it potentially would IF (1) the foreigner is considered a nonresident for tax purposes in his home country so did not make a tax declaration on it in that country and (2) the relevant tax treaty does not specifically state that this type of pension cannot be taxed in Thailand. Some tax treaties do say that but usually only regarding government sourced pensions. In fact, the above is already the law, if bringing the pension in immediateyly, but not usually enforced. Whether enforcement will change remains to be seen. -

FBS is certainly not the "gold standard". Hb1Ac is. FBS readings nto only fluctuate from day to day, they rise in response to stress. There is a sort of equivalent to the "white coat syndrome" some people have with their blood pressure - just being at the hospital undergoing a blood draw can elevate your reading a bit (by say 10 or even 20 points). My FBS is always elevated. My HB1Ac is always normal. For decades now. FBS is a bit cheaper. Also, the contents of hospital check up packages tend to be decided on more from a marketing perspective than a health one.

Never go to Boots or Watsons for pharmaceuticals. Literally every Thai pharmacy (real pharmacy) has this. Have you shown them the name written down? Sometimes pronunciation is the issue. https://www.google.com/maps/search/pharmacies/@13.7083068,100.4699265,14z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m7!2m6!3m5!2sChom+Thong,+Bangkok+10150!3s0x30e2a29dd5f632cf:0x40100b25de28f50!4m2!1d100.4705682!2d13.6943487?entry=ttu Above shows just a partial listing of pharmacies in your area. If that fails, opposite Siriraj Hospital there is a Fascino's as well as severkl other large pharmacies nearby. Guaranteed they have it.

What do you mean by moved you onto the Thai side of the business? As this sounds like you may have switched from April France ot April Thailand - an altogether different policy and company. Though the invoice you showed (from 2018) was from April France. ?????? -
April International - some premium increase analysis
Sheryl replied to topt's topic in Insurance in Thailand
re the above: I am now in the process of transferring my account to this broker https://www.aoc-insurancebroker.com/ Based in France but (at least so far) easy to communicate with via WhatsApp and email. They specialize in expat policies and have an ongoing contractual relationship with April (as well as other providers). The person I have been dealing with is [email protected] I can't hope to get the level of service I previously had with H+Jenny at AA but I am hopeful to get ate least annual reminders of premiums and help with claims as needed. Will be (hopefully) a while before I can report on the latter though. -
Colonoscopy: St. Louis, MedPark or Bangkok Hospital?
Sheryl replied to Y Chang's topic in Health and Medicine
Prof Chucheep is the country's leading colorectal specialist (and very, very busy accordingly) and this is why asked Op if this was a routine screening or for a problem. If it had been for a specific concern I would certainly have advised her to see him but for routine screening I think overkill. Relative of mine had colonoscopy at CKK Christian about 4-5 years ah=go, cost was something like 24K (with n polyps removed). -
Colonoscopy: St. Louis, MedPark or Bangkok Hospital?
Sheryl replied to Y Chang's topic in Health and Medicine
Then any of the hospitals you mention would be fine. If you can confirm that St Louis price of 18K includes IV sedation then I would go there since substantially less expensive. You might not have a choice if it is a package, but if you can, get Dr. Thanakorn Hansomboon. -
Colonoscopy: St. Louis, MedPark or Bangkok Hospital?
Sheryl replied to Y Chang's topic in Health and Medicine
OK that makes more sense. Though I do not think there can be an absolute cap irregardless of number of polyps. 6k might be the usual max but not an absolute cap. There is a pathologist fee for each biopsy. Usually people have at most 2-3 polyps but it is possible to have many more. -
My point was ihat ignoring diabetes can lead to severe pain that affects the quality of life. It was in redponse to poor advice from a poster saying no need to treat diabetes "until you have symptoms". Seriously wrong advice.
