Again, "experienceing symptoms" is not the point at which to think of treating diabetes. By then he may have permanent nerve damage which will make his remaining years highly unpleasant.

Colonoscopy: St. Louis, MedPark or Bangkok Hospital?
Sheryl replied to Y Chang's topic in Health and Medicine
Sorry but something got lost in translation. I assure you, neither of those hospitals, nor any other private hospital in Thailand, does a colonoscopy for only 6K. That is what it costs at govevernment hospitals. -
Colonoscopy: St. Louis, MedPark or Bangkok Hospital?
Sheryl replied to Y Chang's topic in Health and Medicine
When did you make those calls? No place other than government hospital does it for that little nowadays. Prices start at 20k on up at most private hospitals. Even 10 years ago no private hospital did a colonoscopy for 6K. in fact even govt hospitals charge a at least that much. -
Presence of symptoms is irrelevant. By the time you have any it is too late top prevent a lot of damage. @still kicking From the sounds of it there is not much more you can do lifestyle wise. And with your immobility, along with increasing age, it is not surprising that your sugar readings are inching upward. What is your cholesterol panel like? (triglycerides, LDL cholesterol). I ask because lipid and glucose metabolism are closely intertwined. Also may I ask why your are so hesitant to take medication? Metformin is dirt cheap and has an excellent safety profile. Probably half the posters on this forum are on it. Noto nly will it reduce your HB1Ac it will also help reduce/control lipids.

Colonoscopy: St. Louis, MedPark or Bangkok Hospital?
Sheryl replied to Y Chang's topic in Health and Medicine
They do the prep there. A number of places do this, you arrive early and drink the laxative etc and the procedure is done hours later. Usually give some dietary instructions for the day(s) prior though My sister had it done at St Louis, no problems or complaints. Dr was Dr. Thanakorn Hansomboon. Also: make certain all these quotes include IV sedation. I ask because my sister's cost more than what you say and 18k is quite cheap by current private standards so it might be excluding the anesthesia. iouble check this. @Y Chang is this a routine screening or being done because of a specific problem? Makes a difference -

This result is from HB1Ac test, makes no difference what time of day it was done As you are still below 7.0, I would suggest you focus on diet and level of physical activity first unless you feel you are already doing all that you possibly can. Doctors will prescribe medication for result 7.0 or higher unless it comes down with other measures first. There is some variation among physicians as to whether to prescribe medication for results in the 6.5 - 6.9 range, depends among other things on your overall health, cholesterol panel, cardiac risk etc.

Topical retinol will help (e.g. Retin-A and generic equivalents) but will take a month of more of regular use to see results, and need to avoid sun or apply sunblock while using

Thai brands are not extended release. So not interchangable with Priadel. Are you taking this as a mood stabilizer or as an antidepressnt? Either way should consult a psychiatrist as to best local alternative.
-
As earlier noted in this thread Priadel is not available in Thailand.

Oz National Health will not pay for care in Thailand.

It woukd be unusual gor a Thai hospital -- a private one at least -- to discharge you still needing such care. They tend to keep patients much longer than in the West. What type of surgery will this be?

April International - some premium increase analysis
Sheryl replied to topt's topic in Insurance in Thailand
The online portal it is not really designed for that. It is a platform for your bills, premium payments and policy documents. If you need to contact them with a question, phone is best, or else email [email protected] That said, I never had to do it as until recently had an excellent broker who handled all communications for me. Now looking for a new one. This thread reminds me I should ramp up that effort. -
April International - some premium increase analysis
Sheryl replied to topt's topic in Insurance in Thailand
Something is wrong with your premium this year, you should contact them to find out what happened. I have never heard of a $4,000 increase at a time and suspect some sort of error. You might also wish to consider taking at least a $500 excess. When I calculated it, it paid for itself if you averaged 1 claim in 2 years or less. There is an online customer portal where all relevant documents get posted, no need to rely on snail mail. https://extranet.april-international.com/members/private/accueil.jsf -
April International - some premium increase analysis
Sheryl replied to topt's topic in Insurance in Thailand
I am your age and my April policy is about 1/3 what you say you pay. Which policy do you have? With what (if any) deductible? I have the Essential plan with $500 deductible. Annual premium $4,073 this year. -
Your systolic BP is dangerously high. Return to the hospital with these readings. Request to see s cardiologist i.e. don't go only to the Diabetes clinic.

It should be understood thatthis research was conducting in the US and relates to antibiotic sensitivities in STIs in the US which can, and often do, differ in Thailand. -
Do any Farangs actually choose to live in Isaan?
Sheryl replied to Goat's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
"Issan" is a large area and quite diverse. It includes several large cities with much to recommend them for a retiree (e.g. Khon Kaen, Korat) -- as well as many "back of beyond" rural spots. -
Best solution for enlarged prostate that blocks urinating
Sheryl replied to Steven55's topic in Health and Medicine
One of those "rare" situations is prostate infections. Which do require lengthy courses of antibiotics. Other exceptions include osteomyelitis (infection of bone). 6-12 week courses are the norm for such infections. And it sometimes needs to be longer. -
Best solution for enlarged prostate that blocks urinating

You can get a culture and sensitivity test at any hospital of lab but may gave to insist on it as Thai doctors often like to prescribe without it (not a good idea). I sm not sure what you mean by "whole tourist experience". You make a direct appointment with a urologist at a hospital outpatient clinic.. have a consultation (and hopefully a test as per above) and get medication advised. Unless it is a very rare medication, can usually skip on buying it from hospital pharmacy and save by buying it at an outside pharmacy -
Actually insulin can be bought over the counter in a pharmacy in Thailand too. And always has been. Most medications can, big exceptions being barcotics, pyschotropics, hypnotics and steroids.
-
Since the drug in question is not registered for use in Thailand no point in asking anywhere.
-
Dehydration and low electrolytes will certainly do that. And there is nothing "only" about low electrolytes, can be very serious, even life threatening. Next time be sure to bring plenty of electrolyte balanced fluids along and drink as you go.

Prof. Rongroj is excellent and specializes in Parkinsons but he is in Bangkok. In Kalasin your best option is KKU University Hospital (Srindakarind). I suggest one of these neruologists there: Dr. Somsak Tiamkao Dr. Narongsit Kasemsap https://srinagarind.md.kku.ac.th/ Dr. Somasak can also be seen at Ratchapreuk Hospital, will cost a it more but quicker/less crowded https://rph.co.th/en/doctor/somsak-tiamkao-md/

I do nto believe any Imaging Center would agree to perform an MRI upon hearing the patent has retained metal fragments in their abdomen. SInce the MRI could cause these to rip through the body organs. In addition, even if a safe scan like Ct was done, at an imaging center all one gets is the radiologists report. The OP appears to want an opinion as to whether these fragments could account for his/her pain, this needs a doctor's interpretation combining scan findings with the clinical picture.
