Cataract op for one eye mono lends is around 25k in government hospitals Thai price AFAIK. Some government hospitals implement dual pricing, some do not. They ones that do not tend to be located in areas with comparatively few foreigners. Your problem of course is that these will be far from where you live. Any friends or relatives upcountry? You will need to be able to stick around a bit, need follow up next day then after about 1 week etc And are you sure the price your were quoted at Rayong was per eye as opposed to for both?

What exactly did the cardiologist who saw him at the Red Cross hospital say/advise? Enresto improves cardiac output in people with heart failure, it does nto treat heart block or other conduction defects which slow heart rate suggests might be your friend's situation. Entresto can be gotten at large pharmacies or online here https://medtide.com/product/entresto-50-mg-28-tablets-box/ (they have it in multiple strengeths, from 50 to 200 mg) It is an imported and new drug so expensive. Anywhere from 3,000 - 7,000 baht a month depending on the dosage And absolutely should not self prescribed. Among other things there are potential interactions with other medications he may be on. Other medications for blood pressure may need to be discontinued or adjusted, for example since Enresto is a combination drug that includes an antihypertensive. I could advise better if given some idea what the findings were when he went to the hospital. Not all heart conditions are the same. Would also help to know what medications he currently takes. Would also help to know his nationality - some Embassies will help with airfare home in cases like this, some won't.

Please read the thread. He has seen a doctor, several times both in Thailand and now back in his home country. Currently on antibiotics awaiting results of wound culture.

Most international expat policies cover outpatient cancer care and dialysis and day surgeries even though being orherwise inpatient only.

Where to find treatment statistics for Bangkok hospitals?
Sheryl replied to Misty's topic in Health and Medicine
It is possible to pre-select doctor and make a specific appountment at both Overbrook and Rajavej. But as neither lists doctor CVs online takes some research or asking around first. Never a good idea to just show up and let them shunt you around. They don't just send you to who is on duty but to who is on duty and least busy which is not a good sign. -
Depends much on the broker They vary widely in quality. There are some out there who indeed sell only policies from 1 company.

A doctor who does not adk medical histor And what doctor(s) you use. Asking medications and medical history is in fact routine procedure here as it is elsewhere. It is true though that doctors often fail to incorporate that information adequately in their diagnostic and treatment practices And may need reminding. A doctor who does not even is lazy/cutting corners and should not be used. How are you choosing your doctors? -
Definitely better to buy through a broker. But do your own resesrch first. In terms of level of cover, if you will use only government hospitals then minimum 1 million baht per episode. If you want the option of using private hospitals then minimum 3 million baht per occuurence or 5 million annually. Inpatient only. I am not clear if you are asking only about level of cover (with intention of staying with current insurer) or considering a new policy altogether? In terms of brokers I use AA https://www.aainsure.net/ Jenny in their Hua Hin office hss given me great support. [email protected] Doesn't matter that you live in Issan can do everyyhing by rmail.

Meliodosis can be spread through skin contact with infected soil or water. Swimming in dirty water or sitting on unclean beach a possibility. Anyway just a thought. Culture can confirm or rule it out but worth mentioning as western doctors might otherwise not think of it. It is also possible you got small bites while sitting on the beach that you did not feel at the time but which later infected.

OP: Good that you are back home and the doctors have done a culture on the pus. Let us know the result. One thing you might mention to your doctors as a possibility is: cutaneous meliodosis They might not think of it as not common in Westrrn countries but meloidosis is endemic in Thailand. While meliodosis usually presents with fever, aches and pains snd pneumonia sometimes it does have only skin symptoms and can be similar to what you describe. It is a bacterial disease caused by a bacteria present in soil and dirty water. Are you diabetic? Any other chronic diseases?

Health insurance help needed for Thailand
Sheryl replied to theOZfalang's topic in Health and Medicine
"regardless of the coverage zone selected, benefits are valid worldwide (including in your Country of nationality if it is not in your coverage area) in the event of an Accident or Medical Emergency during temporary stays, for non-medical reasons, not exceeding 90 consecutive days." From the General Conditions 2023 which should be downloadable on your portal -

I got the plan documents from the broker prior to application. They do have the option to revise the schedule of benefits (limits on reimbursement) with advance notification. So far the only thing that changed on that front was the reimbursement for private room and that was more of a clarification. I don't know if they can totally drop a benefit such as you suggest. It would certainly be an unusual thing to do. -
I don't think a general ortho will be any help. Proceed with lumbar epidural is my suggestion if good spine specialist thinks spinal cause is likely. I don't know whom you have seen but Prof. Wicharn at BNH spine center is the best. There are often better options than fusion for narrowed foramin BTW. Negative lasegue does not rule ot lumbar cause. Regarding the hip (which is certainlt aldo a possible cause) do you have normal range of motion? And which hip specialist did you see?

Anyone with experience of Finasteride for prostate BPH?
Sheryl replied to simon43's topic in Health and Medicine
It used to be thought that finasteride worsened prostate cancer. More recent research suggests otherwise but why risk it? Wait for the biopsy results and follow the advice of your doctors. Plenty of time to take finastrride later if benifn. -

Where to find treatment statistics for Bangkok hospitals?

There are no good or bad hospitals. Only good and bad doctors and these can be found in all hospitals. Success rate will depend on choice of doctor not choice of hospital. There is a pinned thread on recommended urologists. -
Or start your health insurance while still young and healthy.

All health insurance policies increase premiums with age. Some annually and some in 5 year age bands. In adfition there are sometimes inflationary increases across the board. This has especially been so post COVID And most Thai issued policies will, on top of all this, raise an individual premium based on claims history....as much as 25% each year in which there was a claim and this is over and above age related increases and inflationary adjustments. As a result many people get priced out as they age or after developing a chronic condition. Which is exactly why I recommend against Thsi issued poluc8es edlspecially for those who plan to live here into old age.
