Keeping bars open in certain areas could help tourism a bit, but in a country that is notorious for not being able to enforce laws, I could see this creeping out in to other areas. Drunk driving and alcohol fuelled violence are a real issue, so I think serious thought has to be given as to whether the Gov/Police can really manage these extended hours and thus avoid the potential carnage it could cause.

....yummy dinners, decent health care, better education..... basically, Thailand would be at a similar level of development as South Korea or Taiwan.

I bet their BOI package doesn't make any mention of the TM30 reporting. "Please bring your money, oh, and by the way, we will track you like a criminal. Have a nice day."

As someone who travels pretty much each and every week, if this isn't abolished or at least made much easier (i.e. onus is on me to update, not landlord), I will not be renewing my work-permit next year, and will leave the country. There are others in my multi-national company who feel the same way. My company will not be able to fill the gaps we leave behind with locals, and will find it difficult to find replacements from abroad.

My acquaintances who carry on about "England for the English", but barely have a valid argument beyond that how Brexit will actually benefit the nation. The irony is that these people have all left the UK to live in a foreign country themselves (I could also add they tend to be less educated and/or from lower socio-economic backgrounds, and are loudly vocal from their barstools).
Going through the comments above just seems to reinforce this view.
I wonder if in the few years, when the pound has dropped further, the elderly are paying for their TV licences, the NHS has been all but dismantled, and foreign investment is but a trickle, who they will blame for the country's predicament? It certainly won't be themselves.

If it's genuinely a safety issue, their will be international rules or guidelines in place and the entire project should be a non-starter for those reasons alone. If it's a petty spat between greedy corporations, it'll be sorted out via connections, negotiations, and the passing of brown envelopes the size of shipping containers.

So Brazil's sh#t for a president has put his pride before the welfare of his nation. That's all you need to know really. Of course, if you did a little deeper you'll see he's even worse. Expect to see him use the nationalist card more and more in the coming weeks/months to distract and divide the nation over his failing extremist policies and personal ability to govern effectively.

It seems Hun Sen and his cronies have sold out their country for riches and Chinese backing to maintain power, while the majority of their countrymen and women struggle devastating poverty.

If this is priced similarly to the stunning Mazda CX-5 or the not so stunning but very practical and reliable Honda CRV, I just can't see how it will sell. It's not very attractive, with blocky MG elements in it's stying. The interior looks average at best, and then you've got Chevy's less than stellar reputation to overcome. Perhaps with a base price of ~1.1m it might sell.

You speak of walking, not running ? if walking, do you have a site with events ?; I know some for running, but not for walking
before Khao yai, there is a nice forest to walk or run, but it's near road 33, not 304 , name is " Kao ito ", near Prachinburi ( in Kabin buri , turn left to Prachinburi )
Actually, you could join the running events. Many offer shorter 5km and 10km distances where at least half the participants walk the entire thing, often stopping to relax and take photos along the way. Look on facebook for "wingnaidee". They list all the running (and walking) events around Thailand. Look for trail runs, and see if you can find anything that interests you.
As far as purely walking goes, I am sorry, I am afraid I don't know of any sites.

For experienced flyers (like expats), this sort of thing matters. However, the average tourist travelers would not have a clue. Nor would they choose airlines based on such refined details.
So, I think you are correct but not for the majority of flyers. For most, economy is economy.
Yes, perhaps you are correct about the majority of flyers. Shouldn't we expect a journalist to research and know more about the subject matter than "the majority" of the articles they publish however?

Interesting that you would group Thai Airways with these two bottom-of-the-barrel airlines. What does that imply about Thai... hmmm?
I didn't, the original article did. ????

I'm not a John Legend fan, but crikey, the ignorance of some people on here is incredible. The 1.5bn views, with an average of US$3k per million views paid by You Tube, would have netted him ~US$4.5m.... from one song..... on one platform. Nevermind his other songs, albums, streaming royalties, concerts, and merchandising etc.
So while he might not be remembered in another century or two like Mozart of Bach, I'd imagine he's been more successful in this lifetime than anyone posting here. Insecure much?

"Let’s face it, the seating is much the same, give or take, in just about any plane now. Unless you have the deeper pockets and can afford to sit closer to the front of the plane, you’re in cattle class whether you’re on Thai Airways, Air Asia or RyanAir. A Boeing 737 or Airbus A320 is much the same aeroplane no matter who is flying it"
Nope, totally disagree, and the writer loses all credibility when making such an incorrect statement. Just follow the below link for a beginners course in the differences between different economy seats in different airlines. Spoiler alert, Thai airways rates better than most with a 32" average pitch, and an 18" seat width. Ryan Air fyi, 30" and 17".

So an ex Khmer Rouge officer, now dictator, known for silencing opponents in any way necessary thinks the French courts are going to take this lawsuit seriously? Me thinks he's just doing it to save face in front of his domestic audience.

There are no walks in Khao Yai that match your description that I am aware of. I too searched a few years back. There are a few trails that exist, but these are barely visible paths that are too easy to deviate from without having a guide. Sadly, Thailand doesn't really have the types of walking tracks that you can find in many western countries, with well defined and maintained tracks with markers and huts etc. You can find shorter 15 - 30 minute walks at some popular tourist destinations, and walking to the top of some waterfalls like Erawan can be a 1 hour return trip, but that's about it.
The only way I have manged to get out into the forests in any regular and meaningful way is to join one of the multitude of organised trail run events that are held pretty much every week around the country.

"The Airline has been criticised for resisting changes to its business culture and upper management – long accused of cronyism, nepotism and inefficiencies."
"Aviation analysts say the legacy airline struggles to operate with ageing aircraft, declining tourist arrivals and a strong Thai currency."
I'm going to go with the former reasons, not the latter, as the primary reasons for the poor performance. Tourist numbers have been rising year on year (apparently), and I doubt the numbers of planes/seats Thai operates has been increasing to the same degree. Having said that, if most increases are from Chinese chartered/low Budget flights, they won't have been seeing any upswing. Prices for flights on Thai have been pretty stable over the last 3-5 years as well. There prices are sometimes higher (all things being equal, meaning margins should be higher too), but many are willing to accept this for a direct long haul flight. While Thai does operate some older aircraft like 747s and 777s, they also operate A380s and 787s too. Thai also offers comparatively more legroom in economy than most airlines. So yeah, there are things to complain about, but as someone who takes about a dozen long haul flights with them a year, on balance they weight favourably in my mind.
The "cronyism, nepotism and inefficiencies" on the other hand. Totally believable, and quite likrley the airline's biggest problem.

How about if the 'farang' has a well paying job (upper-middle class+) and his Thai wife has the experience and education to be the same.... even in her husbands country? Yes, we exist. Not every foreigner here is a down on his luck middle aged divorcee who is dating uneducated Thai woman with no career or earning potential. ????
