  1. They are tolerant of ladyboys because ladyboys are thai's and will happily pay thai men 500 baht to beat up a foreigner who doesn't pay them the desired amount of sex. All this while servicing the thai guys for free and in some cases paying them for sex.

Would you as a thai male mind someone paying you 500 baht to take out your aggression on a farang punching bag? I sure wouldn't.

Would you as a thai male mind someone paying you money for sex? I sure wouldn't.

Is this something that has happened to you recently? Please tell us more about your intimate knowledge of ladyboys.

  2. I stop working in a few years and have thought long and hard on where we'll live. We have a 4 yr. old to think about. The house the OP showed us can be bought in Florida for the same if not cheaper price than Thailand. In Florida I'd still be compelled to provide private education for my baby. Where we live in Thailand now the baby can go by herself down the small soi to play with friends. My wife always has a friend to share som tam for lunch and just gossip her heart out. That would be hard to duplicate in the USA.

  3. If you expect to have a fulltime job and live in the city (away from the red light) I would not expect this to be a specific problem in Thailand.

Finish work, retire to Thailand, bored to death out in the sticks or emblazed by redlight, no work, no hobby: that's a different situation.

I finished work, retired to Thailand, live in the sticks tongue.png

One of the main hobbies: reading and posting on this forum biggrin.png

Two large beers a day (in the evening).

The liver is still working well.

    Self discipline is necessary!

If this is the biggest worry you are ready to go (come).

Two large beers every day, (presuming you mean each bottle is 640ml of a 5% strength) is 6.4 UK units of alcohol per day: assuming seven days a week, that makes 44.8 units a week.

The UK guidelines for a safe level of drinking are 21 units per week for men, with the advisory that you go at least two consecutive days a week without drinking.

Not saying this as a criticism, just pointing out that current UK views on adverse health effects of alcohol would class that level of drinking as" heavy", ie more than twice the recommended " safe" level. Of course other developed countries have different recommendation levels, both higher and lower, suggesting hard and fast evidence for "safe" levels is lacking. Looking at all current western countries' recommendations suggests an average of around 30 per week is probably OK.

Boredom coupled with hot weather and lots of free time does tend to increase any existing propensity to drink, which I admit I do have. The way I control it is write down every unit I drink. I deliberately limit myself to that 30 units a week, and when I get to that point I stop drinking for long enough to bring the weekly consumption average down to 30 again. This means always getting at least three to four consecutive non drinking days in a row-another heath benefit.

It's a bit obsessive but it works for my temperament: when you can see the spreadsheet in front of you it's hard to pretend to yourself that you're not overdoing it.

At the house all our time is spent outside in the shade. Going to the store for a couple of beers to drink at home is just so easy. Then folks stop by and I pour a glass for them. They stay for awhile so of course we get a few more. I stay in Thailand for 2 months and I go back to sea where I drink very little. It's the atmosphere and weather of Thailand that makes having a beer so agreeable. I understand when I stay here permamently I'll have to curb my beer intake.

  4. I am 67yo - wife is 36yo. We have been together for 11 years. She has no Chinese blood.

When you was 36 did you want to bonk a 67 year old woman ? No its disgusting. When you was 25 did you want to bonk a 56 year old hag ? Disgusting

May be disgusting to you but marrying that old faring might look appealing after growing up on a diet of fried bugs.

The only downside with marrying these old guys is they don't die fast enough.

The ladies look forward to having bugs with the sam tam (lao) When the women hit mid 30's their prospects of a marriage with a successful thai guy are disappearing. Marry an older farang, get a light skinned baby, nice house, car and comfortable life. Was that her dream life she imagined when she was 18....probably not.

Had a small party at the house, ole lady's friend says she wants a farang. I ask why?

She gives the same weak response, thai man no good...drinks too much. B#)) <deleted> says I and go on to tell her ALL men are the same.....some good some bad. But, they see our house, new truck, cute baby girl and they figure they can have the same.

  5. I just spent a month in Jomtein Beach with wife and 4 yr. old. Rented on soi 7, a condo. Plenty there with car parking. Beach just a few minutes walking. Beach isn't too bad, plenty of shade. Restaurants all over on beach road. All the bars aren't a problem, just a bunch of guys drinking. At night the beach has lots of both foreigners and thai enjoying the evening.

  6. Nice to see somebody leave Thailand without coming back here and boring us all about why they left.

If some posters decide to leave Thailand to go back to their home countries, and want to tell us why, why should it be boring?

If any poster leaves Thailand to go back to their home country for whatever reason, I would be interested to hear their story.

Don't want to drop any names but neversure should get a real life. For once and only once the biker is right.

  7. Service charge for PU 3000 baht, bought new bike for 3 yr old 1400 baht, 2 large vases with water plants 1700 baht, replaced washing machine 7500 baht....all spent in one day oh forgot....stopped for a bite 400 baht, off to small 7 for a few beers cause spending money makes me thirsty.

So spending 60K baht a month isn't so hard. New tablet for the baby, new printer for the 12 yr old, bought a new plastic shelf unit 1200 baht, just this morning the 2 burner gas unit (tabletop)

pretty much disintegrated probably run 1700 baht, few pot holes in drive bought pick up load of rock and sand 1800 baht.....that included the 100 baht tip for bottle of lao kao.

It doesn't <deleted>$$ing stop. Today I changed oil, air filter and all that on 3 motorbikes. Got up at 2 am to drive to market to buy food for temple 1200 baht, go home and cook for 4 hrs and I thought that was cheap. I didn't cook, just drank coffee.

    You get the point right...

  8. Government is good all the way,

Tessabaan kindergarten from age 3, 2kbht entry, 1,800bht two terms a year, all food and uniforms included.

Junior school, books and uniforms about 3k/year, all food included.

High school, started at 5k/year now at 12k/year for the last couple of years.

    University ...... not there yet.

Food and clothing, not that much, nappies and milk were the most expensive time, about 800bht/month for the first 3 years.

Hospital, free, the government maternity wards do an excellent job, yeah there's a bit of waiting around, but the mums and mums to be seem happy to sit and chat all day, drop off and collect.

    Don't panic, it's all worthwhile.

Time and energy, I'm 60, my youngest is three, just about to take him to school, the teen drives herself.

I have plenty of time, much more than a young employed person.

Energy, I get up at 5am to cycle up Doi Suthep most mornings so mum does mornings, I do afternoons, we share evenings.

Another perspective is Private hospital for delivery with private room 35,000 baht, diapers and milk more like 3000 baht a month, just went to school we plan to have daughter attend P-1 price 50,000 per term and doesn't include uniforms. This is not a International School but rather they teach 50% in English and 50%Thai. All the baby shots were given at Private hospital not free clinic.

You say government is good all the way. I'd like to say if you have the money why not do it right. It all depends on what you want for the child.

Nestle Milk powder, 900gm for around 200bht, sold in 7-11, Tesco, Makro ........ how much milk can one kid consume?

All our vaccinations were free in government hospital.

OP asked how much did it cost?

Not how much can I spend if I have money to burn?

Daughter will be, doctor, pharmacist, government worker, schoolteacher of some sort in Thailand.

    Son, too early to tell.

What do you want for your child?

What I listed is what we spent. It's just as relative to state what top quality formula costs as it is to say what the cheapest route is. International School runs about 30-40K a month or in that outragious neighborhood.

I'm torn between actress or the local somtam lady. Either is acceptable but I will give her all the choices I can afford. Having a good English skills is part of that.

  10. Could be a stealth advertising campaign for a beer bar!

Not all Jingy. I've been hanging out in jomtien mostly. Me thinks perhaps you've been spotted on soi 7.

  11. I clean Phala beach every day, at least the part behind our house. Its a real shame that most of the time, the beach looks like a garbage dump.

I was there yesterday for the first time. Was checking out the schools. You're right the beaches looked sadly littered.

  12. I think if they improved things for Thais they would improve for us. Starting with Laws that are enforced properly

Yes, any government's priorities should be aimed at their own people first. Despite what the perpetual whiners go on about. life here for farang is already far more comfortable than it is for a lot of nationals. And most of those farang who seem so miserable here would probably be worse off if they stayed in the countries from which they fled.

No farang government spends a great deal of time worrying about accommodating foreigners. If anything their interest in foreigners is concerned with keeping them out unless they're bringing money and/or needed skills.

Maybe if farang governments worked on improving life back in Farang Utopia there wouldn't be so many unemployable, unqualified, economic refugees here.

    Well you wrong...

In my country once foreigners are allowed in then over some years time they end up with the exact same rules and benefits as i have...

Some examples, insurance, passports, landowning, education, justice.social security all no difference.

Example a Thai lady would marry a guy from my country then she gets all these benefits just as if she was born in my country. Now that is not the same here if i marry a thai girl then still my rights are completely limited here in thailand..

So the difference is the behavior of governments in dealing with foreigners.

Not all governments are unfair/unfriendly towards foreigners like here in Thailand is the practice.

If the USA is your country then they should be less friendly to foreigners. The Viet nam era refugees are still raping the government for bogus benefits. The schools are over burdened with non english speaking students who's parents aren't legal.

The whole arguement of the US being a land of immigrants is true, but they were brought to the US to work, not to be be freeloaders with their bill being placed on the shoulders of the taxpayer.

I can't get a visa for my G/F to visit the US but people can walk from mexico and be welcomed in the US and be allowed to have a drivers license. So, Thailand's policies towards foreigners should be adopted by other nations.

  13. What would make it more harmful to Farangs than (for example) Blend 285?

    Methanol.

Great drink, but who turned off the lights?

Methanol? May be the case for some "Home-Brew", but not what can be bought at the 7/11 , with the "Tax-slip" over the top. Many strange things can happen in Thailand, but I don't think 7/11 or Tesco would want to poison their customers, with the blessing of the Thai Government.

To me, it tastes awful. The Thais probably drink it, because it's the cheapest thing around.

    Cheers.

I don't know why Lao Kwao is so potent but it's definitily toxic. I've had it enough times to treat it with respect. Funny thing is in the deep Isaan when you mix it with certain leaves and other concotions, it becomes a medicine.

  14. This seems to be "the never ending story" in Thailand. Why can't the foreigner understand that he can't buy land in Thailand? My advive is to STAY AWAY from whatever kind of land they are selling. And be aware of that you have to sign a paper at the Land Office that says the money for the land doesn't come from you.

I married a woman of great quality. We bought 30 Rai and planted rubber trees. We also planted 20 Rai of rubber on the parents land. Father inlaw is old and useless. Soon comes the problem of harvesting the rubber (same as cash) We pay people to plow and fertilize (also like cash) We have a good business in Pattaya and the wife can't just close the store to go to Issan. As far as I am concerned the land might as well be on the moon. I only invest money that I can afford to lose.

Know your people well (3 to 5 yrs) and don't invest your last dime. For most farangs it works out OK. Now I would not buy land in the western world without papers

    haha and title insurance

A "women of great quality" I am very impressed. Thank you for sharing.

  15. Thailand is the same as any country if you don't like it leave. I love my wife her country and our children and would not have it any other way. Thailand is how you accept it if you don't leave

Thailand, like any other countries has it's good and bad, but the good far outweighs the bad, don't join the "if you don't like it go home" brigade.

Just because some poster points out a negative, don't start telling them to leave, or go home.

Welcome to the forum, and enjoy your posting.

May your next cup of juice be filled to the brim with no ice.
