  1. I live in Thailand. I have a "very good friend" in the Philippines who I have visited many times. Good person. She managed a phone shop in a mall and lost all income when Covid-19 caused the mall to be shut down so I've been helping her out, sending various amounts via WU from Thailand. A few days ago when I was sending P10,000 for September, I was informed by the teller that I was "over the limit" for WU remittances to the PI. I had never experienced this previously and asked what the limit was. Neither she or even the bank manager could tell me what the limit was but they would only allow me to send a maximum P5000 and said I was suspended "temporarily" from further remittances. I was really surprised. Is this somebody's idea of a way to protect innocent old expats from conniving Fillipina's? Does anybody know anything about this? Any details would be welcome because talking to my bank is like talking to chickens. I've never used anything other than WU: Thailand to PI. Any good alternatives with a widespread pick-up network? She resides in Dipilog City if that helps.
  2. And 40 years later, still have the slipped disk to prove it.
  3. Thanks. My problem is finding one who DOESN'T want to do "cool". Bit old for sidewalls. LOL Thanks for the specific directions. I tried to find Soi Watboon on maps but couldn't spot it. Looks like somewhere close to Soi Boon Kanchana but even zooming in tight didn't reveal it.
  4. I've gotten pretty shaggy since hair cutters were closed down. Looking for a clean shop with a decent barber.
  5. Older bikes are frequent targets in that the sum total value of the parts is often worth more than the intact bike, especially in Cambodia and Laos where a lot of the parts end-up.

    TCL TVs

Whatever model number corresponds the most closely to the US "6" series.

    TCL TVs

I've had several TCL TV's and have liked them, never having any problems. I'm thinking of upgrading to a 65" or larger sometime soon. Does anybody know if any of the TCL models sold locally correspond in most specs to their current "6" Series models sold in the US? TCL model numbers sold here always differ from the US model numbers. The "6" series has had a lot of reviews calling it the best bang for the buck TV currently on the market however finding feature to feature comparisons between US & Asian models is difficult. BTW, have other's noticed how the weaker baht is really showing in TV prices? They seem to be up 10% to 15% from a year ago.
  8. Third and fourth generation, Thailand born Hill-Tribe kids denied basic education because of lack of ID card: "0" Dogs: "1".
  9. I smoked heavily from ages 15 to 27, about 12 years then quit cold, not a single cigarette since; now 78.
  10. If a Doctor visit is indeed indicated, of course one will be consulted but there are several valid reasons why I ask here first . In Thailand, or anywhere now one just doesn't just walk in and see a Doctor. Usually, one must visit a hospital and incur significant charges in the process for what could be just a normal condition of ageing...which is why I asked. Also, in this era of Covid-19, I think it wise to avoid hospitals unless really necessary...again why I asked. Often a non-critical issue such as this has been experienced by others and I have found that participants on this particular forum are generous in sharing their experiences and outcomes...again, which is why I asked here. Finally: Sheryl, the moderator of this forum is one of the most encyclopedic providers of casual medical information to be found anywhere. Why would I not seek her informed comment?
  11. I'm 78. Over the last few years I've been experiencing difficulty eating soft foods like rice or mashed potato. Such food frequently seems to lodge somewhere around my esophagus and I find myself burping for 5 or 10 minutes before it clears. Drinking water actually seems to exacerbate it as it also backs up. I can eat most normal foods without issue. Is this common in older people, like a tightening of the esophagus or is it something I need to get checked out?
  12. This guy has Lamborgini's and Ferrari's and probably a couple of kg of gold stashed away. The Thai press moves on very quickly. Once the spotlight is off, you can be sure his money will buy him "soft time" at some friendly police facility and he will be out walking free in a very few years.
  13. Could also be Sciatica. My recent bout with sciatica started with a pain around the kidney area then shot into my leg.
  14. Sorry I can not cite the source but I remember reading this past year that prices in Bangkok's leading private hospitals had increased by more than 100% in the past 10 years.
  15. The truly obscene prices US pharma is allowed to charge for medicines protected by patent is a racket like no other. Pharma channels money into the FDA and Congress in so many ways that there is virtually no chance they will ever be reigned in. Meanwhile, as you said, those unable to afford $1000 each medication doses are forced to either buy smuggled and frequently counterfeit versions produced in other countries or travel themselves to other countries for treatment. Meanwhile, health insurance costs are sky high partly as a result of being forced to cover such outrageously priced medications.
  16. I have no doubt that there are a multitude of herbal and traditional medicines that have medicinal merit. The sad fact is that there is limited profit in sourcing, producing and distributing them because no patent exclusivity. This means that the very detailed and expensive clinical trials needed to legitimize a medication don't get funded and don't get done. It's Frustrating that the US FDA spends billions subsidizing the big pharma industries yet does little to fund such clinical trials of perhaps useful herbal & traditional medications.
  17. I can't help but point out that when any national government gets involved in the art's, government interference inevitably follows. When the US had the "National Endowment for the Arts", members of Congress would often grandstand with statements of outrage about some work of art that pushed the boundaries; as art is supposed to do. As it has always been and will always be: Governments and the art's do not play together well.
  18. Worked ten+ years as an "OBC": basically an air courier out of Bangkok, four to six international flights a month. Of course, I had a multiple entry re-entry permit, but it still had to clear immigration every departure. Never once denied boarding because of computers not functioning. Delayed yes, denied never.
  19. In 15 years of flying out of BKK literally hundreds of times, I have yet to be told: "Sorry, not today"
  20. Amazing. Even when the cops do a decent job finding and arresting a criminal, the bashing brigade just have to spew their endless ridicule, repeating the same trite banalities.
  21. Indeed. Always faster. It has never taken me more than 20 minutes. Same re-entry permits, single or multiple entry for the same price as CW. Currently open when departing flights are scheduled. It is located in the passport control area, after security.
  22. Sounds like my kind of toy store. Thanks
  23. I need M-4 (10mm) machine screws. Where can I buy them in Pattaya?
  24. It would seem it took nearly as much effort making the load appear sliced as it would to just slice the damn thing. TIT.
