Thanks for the detailed instructions. Very helpful.

I went through all the settings and permissions in the Play Store app and my Google account and could not find any geo location other than thailand. I have geo location enabled.

I tried scanning the QR code on the bill but it only redirected me to the app. I did not try the bar code. I'll try that next time.

Thanks. That what I did. no issues.

Thanks for spelling this out. Do you own or rent? I'm concerned as a renter that if I terminated my rental, knowing how stodgy and slow Bangkok Bank can be, that they might continue to take money out for subsequent bills, delaying termination.

I recently switched renting my condo through an agent to direct from owner. Electric bills used to be paid through the agent. Now I must pay PEA directly. I tried downloading the Android App using the QR code on the bill, no joy. I get a red "Not available in your country" notice though my location is available and phone set to Thailand. Reviews on the app store are universally one and two star, lots of complaints about app not working. I tried the PEA website, again no joy. Couldn't find an English option. What are the options for paying PEA bills? ATM? (Bangkok Bank) 7-11?, other?

Owner selling my condo I am renting
dddave replied to Hindy's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
As PMBKK pointed out, considering selling and actually selling are separate issues, Currently, it's not unusual for condos to stay on the market for more than a year. You do need to set-up terms with the owner about her respecting your privacy and informing you well in advance when she wants to show the unit. You should make it clear you will not allow her inside to show the unit if she does not make advance arrangements with you. She has no legal right to enter your premises except under emergency circumstances or with a court order.- 36 replies

Where to buy cheap second hand electronics online?
dddave replied to organicman's topic in General Topics
Most Thai municipalities have an electronics "fix-it" shop somewhere in the business area or close to the local market. They usually have a few TV's for sale. That said, if you shop around a bit, new in a box 55" TV's can be found for less that B9000. It's not unusual for a used TV to have hidden problems that don't show-up until after an hour or so of on time. -
How wrong you are. brake job done at the beginning of this year, new tires as well. Thanks for the offer but keep your T-shirt: fits you better.

On Friday, 25/11, my friend Mike was hit by a car as he crossed in a pedestrian crossing, traffic light controlled. The driver remained at the scene. The police report states that the drivers dashcam clearly shows him accelerating as the light counted down and that it was red when he passed through it. The drivers vehicle actually had a dashcam that confirmed he ran the red light. The driver signed a document at the scene admitting fault. He is an elderly UK expat. We have the name of his insurance company. Mike remains in an ICU drifting in & out of consciousness. He has severe head and bodily injuries. Clearly, he has a long road ahead of him. One problem is Mike did not specify any other beneficiary of his insurance other than himself. Thus, they will only compensate him directly, no family members who lay out money for his treatment. He was only in Thailand 2 months. All his family is in the USA. Friends in Thailand are helping as much as they can but what we can do is limited. Mike had a travel insurance policy but the more we learn about it, the more it becomes clear that compensation is going to be a mess. Among a lot of other conditions, his travel policy will only pay out after the drivers insurance benefits have been exhausted. His brother spoke with a local legal office recommended to him. Basically, they told him they needed B50K just to start looking into it. They are not rich people. We know the name of the at fault drivers insurance company: "Sri Mung Kong" or something close to that. The law firm told the brother that the only way to get the insurance company to pay for Mikes care is to sue them. I'm skeptical. Has anybody reading this had first hand experience claiming payment from a Thai insurance company for treatment for injuries received in a crash where the insured is clearly at fault. What is the process for the claimant? Are they usually co-operative or is it true that they usually must be sued to claim coverage? We, Mike's friends and his family would greatly appreciate any knowledgeable information we can get. Please, please, please: no speculation, no guessing, no blather. Informed responses only. This is a really difficult situation for my friend and his family.

Just found out and something people buying travel insurance should know: The insurance co. says that before they pay out, all available insurance from the at fault driver must be exhausted first. This is going to be a billing nightmare for his family.

I rent a 6 year old, 35,000 km Honda Click for B1200/mo. in Jomtien. It is in excellent shape and the owner comes by every 3 months and services it. I only use it for around town, no Sukhumvit, no Pattaya at night. It serves me very well. I do not want to be stuck with a bike that may need expensive repairs and quit on me. Cheaper used bikes are a pig in a poke. Think of all the bikes you saw flopped over in the floods in this past year and how many of those bikes are now on the market. As I said, he maintains the bike and if anything did happen, he'd come and pick it up and leave me a replacement. When I was laid-up for 2 months with a leg infection, he came and got the bike then returned it when I was ready. No charge for the months I didn't use it. I found him on facebook two years ago and he's been great. PM me for info. OP, Many condos will allow you to leave a bike in their parking garage if you sign a lease for the following year.

You think so? My friend's wallet was apparently pinched at the scene. he had no id on him when brought to the hospital. I happened to call him to chat. An EW nurse picked up his phone and answered. That's how they found out who he was. We later searched his room and no wallet. That's why we think it was pinched. Do everybody a favor, Kwasaki. Same could happen to you. Make a copy of the license and your pp and put it in a drawer.

OP here. I was just informed the police have the driver and that he remained at the scene. He also had a dashcam which clearly shows him accelerating as the light counted down, it was red by the time he went through, my friend had a green pedestrian light. Of course we all know that a green light means nothing, utmost caution necessary at all times crossing. Driver was a retired farang. Claims he is too poor to pay compensation. We'll see about that.

I have spent the last 4 days trying to help the US based family of a good friend, seriously injured after being hit by a car. My life would be much easier just now if my friend had bothered to have a easily accessible document somewhere in his residence with all his emergency contact and insurance information. Please give your friends and family a break!!! It does nobody any good if all the important info, including Passport copy, insurance policy, ect, ect are on your phone or neatly filed away on your laptop, inaccessible to anybody but you. Make hard copies of your passport and insurance policy face page. Make a list of those you want contacted should you be incapacitated along with all contact details: Phone, email even social media. Make a directive of exactly what you want done with your body should you be dead. Make financial arrangements with somebody you trust to sort out your details. Make several copies. put in a sealed envelope and exchange with a local friend as well as putting in a dresser or night table drawer. My friend Mike had just retired and was really enjoying himself. he never expected Friday to end the way it did. You don't know how every day will end either. make it easy on others, and ultimately yourself by having your vital info available. EDIT: make sure your insurance policy contains permissions for family members or others you designate to act on your behalf. If you are from the USA, make sure your insurance has the HIPPA clause, giving others access to your information and the ability to make medical decisions on your behalf activated. If it is not, even your family can be locked out. This is causing huge problems for my friend's family at the moment. The travel insurance company will only compensate HIM directly, not family paying hospital bills on his behalf and he is totally incapacitated. Edit2: Consider giving somebody trusted medical power of attorney. Do you really want to be kept on life support while a hospital milks every last dollar you have and nobody with the legal standing to stop them?

Please, if anybody on this forum witnessed the above accident in which my friend Mike was run down by a car while crossing at a pedestrian crossing, please pm me. Unlike the similar accident yesterday on 2nd Road, this did not make the news and we have no videos or witnesses. Mike is in an ICU, on a breathing tube with multiple serious injuries. Please let me know if you know anything about it.

555 I used to declare the same when I was younger. No old age for me. Now, at 79, I sing a different tune, and so will you should you be fortunate to get this far. I'm still living every day; some better, some worse, just like always.

Re-ENTRY permit at Suvarnabhumi Airport
dddave replied to zenplay's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
At Don Muang airport (DMK) unless recently changed, the re-entry permit desk shares space in the same office as the overstay desk. Make sure when entering you tell them you want a Re-Entry Permit, otherwise they assume you are there for overstay and just have you sit and wait. Usually there are many more waiting for overstay than for re-entry permit. -
I am seeking recommendation based on first hand knowledge for an attorney in the Bangkok-Pattaya area with expertise in hospital patient custody and payment issues. My friend "M", a US citizen was involved in a severe pedestrian accident in Pattaya on Friday, Nov. 25. I do not know any details of the accident yet: where or what exactly happened. He was taken by ambulance to a local "2nd tier" Pattaya hosp. For legal reasons, I will not name the hospital here. He has catastrophic injuries: multiple broken bones, internal injuries and a fractured skull. He is comatose and on life support in an ICU. He is essentially alone here though with many casual friends. He does have family in the US who I have been able to contact. He also had a travel insurance policy. The hospital is basically holding him hostage, refusing to provide certain documents required by the insurance company to transfer him to a more capable hospital. The insurance is also a problem. Because M. never signed a Power of Attorney or a document called an "H.I.P.A." which gives permission for a designated person to act on his behalf, the insurance company will only compensate "M" directly, not even a family member. The hospital claims it only takes cash payments which the insurance company will not provide. The list of complications and "Catch-22s" goes on. The family is boxed in and the bills are accumulating at more than $1000 daily. As a friend trying to help as best I can, I feel unequipped to deal with these complex issues. I believe an attorney will have to get involved at some point and that is why I am asking for recommendations. Please, only recommend if you have direct knowledge of the attorney having expertise in this specific area. I would also appreciate input from anybody who has been in a similar situation. BTW, we are in contact with the US Embassy, so far with limited results. Sheryl, on this forum has been very helpful.

BKK Sukhumvit/Asoke: Atmospheric Café for Laptop-Working?
dddave replied to henrik2000's topic in Bangkok
Now, now! The saintly righteous among us must have an opportunity to sermonize now and then. As to cool & quiet coffee shops, Thong Lo has a plethora; start perhaps at the Commons. -
Oh yes. When I was 18, (1962) I had a '51 Cadillac for a summer on Cape Cod (traded a sailboat for it) and it was such a lux experience, accustomed as I was to growing up riding in family Fords. As you said, like a sofa on wheels. Even back then, the radio had "touch" tuning. I had only ever driven stick shifts and feeling the Caddy go into "passing gear" when stomped was a true rush. Trunk was big enough to fit 3 friends when sneaking them into the Drive-In. Finally had to sell it when I entered college. Even with 28 Cent/gal. gas, it was a beast to run.

Peugeot are known as the most comfortable non-luxury automobiles. Years ago I had a 404 and it was the most comfortable car I ever owned.
