Author Salman Rushdie attacked on stage at event in New York
Bluespunk replied to Scott's topic in World News
I’m sorry, while nothing justifies the over reaction to the book, the attempts to silence artistic license and freedom of speech, the attempt on the author’s life by a bigot (who I hope rots in a cell till the day he dies), I find it very hard to believe for one second Rushdie did not know exactly how offensive religious zealots would find that passage in his book. Let me emphasise again, I have no sympathy or empathy for the reaction the book caused, but come on…it is not credible for me to believe Rushdie wasn’t aware of how some would react. -
Trump’s CFO Allen Weisselberg Will Implicate Trump Companies in Guilty Plea

Uh oh, reality calling. “Carl Emmerson, deputy director of the IFS and an author of the report, said: “The reality is that the UK has got poorer over the last year. That makes tax and spending decisions all the more difficult. It is hard to square the promises that both Ms Truss and Mr Sunak are making to cut taxes over the medium-term with the absence of any specific measures to cut public spending and a presumed desire to manage the nation’s finances responsibly.” That’s a big presumption Carl. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2022/aug/18/uks-10-inflation-casts-doubt-on-truss-and-sunaks-tax-cut-promises?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other

Absolute nonsense. -
Britain’s opposition Labour Party demand energy price cap freeze
Bluespunk replied to Scott's topic in World News
No need because I know you are wrong. You have claimed that mps and the Labour Party are on the take or involved in sleaze because of perfectly legal contributions from trade unions. You have consistently failed to back this erroneous claim because you can’t. The reason you can’t is because it’s not true. -

Nonsense. Now back up your claim. -

No need. The reason being that’s exactly what it does. Now back up your very specific claim. -

Nonsense. Back up your claim. -

Then back up your hyperbole. Remember legitimate contributions are neither sleaze nor indicative of being on the take. They are perfectly legal as long as they keep within the rules governing political contributions. -

As I thought, you can’t back up your hyperbolic nonsense. Just as I knew you wouldn’t have the courage or integrity to admit you are wrong. -
Britain’s opposition Labour Party demand energy price cap freeze
Bluespunk replied to Scott's topic in World News
That’s not the question I asked. It is well known and openly declared as regulations require that unions contribute to both the Labour Party and individual mps. That is not graft, being on the take or illegal. Now back up your claims of being on the take and sleaze. I would ask that you recant these claims if unable to do so. However, that would take integrity and the courage to admit you are wrong… I doubt you possess these qualities. -

Really? On the take? Sleaze? Care to back those claims up. Keep in mind declared contributions above a certain amount to a party or individual MP is completely legal. Donations below this level do not need be declared. -
Past coming back to haunt truss ”Liz Truss, now the Tory leadership frontrunner, launched an astonishing broadside against British workers, saying they needed “more graft” and suggesting they lacked the “skill and application” of foreign rivals” Clarification team on the case already. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2022/aug/16/leaked-audio-reveals-liz-truss-said-british-workers-needed-more-graft?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
