What VPN provider do you use and why do you like it?
Crossy replied to CALSinCM's topic in IT and Computers
It's fine with iPlayer on both PC and Andyroid. I've never had a lot of luck with "smart" TVs, they tend to be under-powered CPU wise ???? You can connect using a lot of routers and use the router to decide which devices use VPN and which don't. -
Solar power, can it be done DIY?
Crossy replied to Sophon's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
Yup ^^^. VSF with its many fine strands is much less of a wrestle, but it really needs ferrules on the ends. -

I only use TrueMoney (linked to my credit card) at the Seven but do they accept credit cards at the counter? -
Credit Card at Makro
Crossy replied to lelapin's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
QR scan ???? (sa-kan) Either PromptPay via your bank app or TrueMoney Wallet. Note that TrueMoney only works in Makro if it's funded by cash not by a credit card (even a Citi one). -
A young doctor had moved out to a small community to replace a doctor who was retiring. The older doctor suggested that the young one accompany him on his rounds, so the community could become used to a new doctor. At the first house, a woman complains, "I've been a little sick to my stomach." The older doctor says, "Well, you've probably been overdoing the fresh fruit. Cut back on the amount you've been eating and see if that does the trick?" As they left, the younger man said, "You didn't even examine that woman? How'd you come to the diagnosis so quickly?" "I didn't have to. You noticed I dropped my stethoscope on the floor in there? When I bent over to pick it up, I noticed a half dozen banana peels in the trash. That was what probably was making her sick." The younger doctor said "Pretty clever. If you don't mind, I think I'll try that at the next house." Arriving at the next house, they spent several minutes talking with a younger woman. She said that she just didn't have the energy she once did and said, "I'm feeling terribly run down lately." "You've probably been doing too much for the Church," the younger doctor told her. "Perhaps you should cut back a bit and see if that helps." As they left, the elder doctor said, "I know that woman well. Your diagnosis is almost certainly correct, she's very active in the church, but how did you arrive at it?" "I did what you did at the last house. I dropped my stethoscope and, when I bent down to retrieve it, I noticed the vicar under the bed”.

Credit Card at Makro

All the Makro's I've used accept Thailand issued Citi (now UOB) credit cards and have done for some years. Not sure about other cards. -
Help understanding power generation and usage
Crossy replied to statman78's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
Whilst it does produce AC, it's the phase of that AC relative to the mains voltage that tells the inverter which way the energy is flowing. It definitely matters which way round it goes. But you are right, it could well be on the wrong wire. -

I wonder if (like others have said) your CT is on the wrong lead or is the wrong way round. Definitely time to get your installer involved. -

Do you have a normal disc-type meter or an electronic one? The disc meters actually go backwards when exporting so it's easy to see. By the way, one member has been waiting >2 YEARS for his export meter! -
PEA and Solar how low can you go?
Crossy replied to MJCM's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
Certainly not impossible, but every inverter malfunction I've seen actually stops it generating (usually with a significant bang and the release of the Magic Smoke). If anything our GTIs (which are on the MEA and PEA "Approved" list) are a little too enthusiastic about shutting down on minor grid disturbances, although they come back up again within a minute or two. To address the fears of potential solar users I've actually looked into injuries (or worse) caused to linemen by correctly installed grid-tie solar. I've found none. There are a fair number of instances of people hooking up gensets incorrectly (no transfer switch) and back-feeding into a dead grid causing deaths! But in all those cases the lineman in question (or his team-mates) had made an error (or taken a shortcut) in isolating and grounding out of the lines. -

Back-feeding a dead grid is indeed deadly and very illegal! Every single domestic level Grid-tie inverter has island-protection built-in to prevent just that situation from occurring. Grid goes down, inverter shuts down. Exporting energy to a live grid is a different situation altogether. The inverter generates slightly greater voltage than the grid and energy flows to the grid. -
Subsidies for households 300 units or less of electricity per month
Crossy replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Since they likely use more than 300 units in total it won't make any difference to their costs. If you use less then 300 units you won't get any advantage either ???? -

There's finally been an announcement, of course no actual detail other than it covers January to April 2023. -

It looks like they are continuing the reduced FT rate that was introduced last year. We got a refund of the FT that was deducted in January. -
As a kid brought up on the Apollo program and Fireball XL-5 these videos never cease to amaze me. Arthur C Clarke may have invented the communications satellite but Gerry Anderson invented the reusable spacecraft. All we need now is horizontal take-off and single stage to orbit. That booster has flown (and landed) 12 times! And for those too young ... And just how like XL-5 does the Space-X Starship look??

How clean are your solar panels?
Crossy replied to 007 RED's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
Yup, we've had a rather miserable on-off day too, still charged the batteries and export but just not so much as previously. Don't have our own AQI but the local online ones are bouncing off 60.7ug/m3???? -
"What would you like to do first, Kim?" asked Joe. "I want to get weighed," she said. They ambled over to the weight guesser. He guessed 120 pounds. She got on the scale; it read 117 and she won a prize. Next the couple went on the ferris wheel. When the ride was over, Joe again asked Kim what she would like to do. "I want to get weighed," she said. Back to the weight guesser they went. Since they had been there before, he guessed her correct weight, and Joe lost his dollar. The couple walked around the carnival and again he asked where to next. "I want to get weighed," she responded. By this time, Joe figured she was really weird and took her home early, dropping her off with a handshake. Her roommate, Laura, asked her about the blind date, "How'd it go?" Kim responded, "Oh, Waura, it was wousy."

Same with the little birds you buy "to set free", the ruddy things fly back into the sellers' cages where they get fed and watered. Unlike the people who buy them they are not bird-brains
