  1. Yeah, I think you are right on this. I've had a number of "Ships from Overseas" items (notably tool batteries) arrive with a Bangkok dispatch address on the delivery label.
  2. Ask for "Thailand special line", it's a system whereby many smaller shipments are cleared together under the Thai-Chinese FTA. It does seem to work, I've had dutyable items arrive with no duty or VAT to pay ???? Of course YMMV
  3. Why not start a separate thread? Tell us what you want to do, offset your power bill or go totally off grid (maybe with grid backup). Do a rough power budget, what you want to power, also your rough energy consumption, you can get the latter off your power bill. It's not really rocket science if you are a competent DIYer or you could go with a contractor (add $$$).

It would seem that's exactly what our OP's lady did, but she used pliers

  6. Attention guys (and gals) in government! Just kill off all the covid mandates like the rest of the known universe has! You know it makes sense! I'm fed up of sitting in my office wearing a ruddy mask when there's nobody within 2m of me except my assistant.

Be very, very careful! I ensure Madam keeps me around by being invaluable and fixing stuff. If she discovers you are expendable ...
  8. Actually this is a timely thread, I need to DIN mount a copper bus-bar for my upgraded battery pack.
  9. Yeah, I spotted some of those, 43mm = 0.69 inch in whose universe ????
  10. I've got some DIN mount terminals that look very like the mouldings in the OP, they fit on the two (or is it 3) different formats of DIN rail hence the complex shape. I think the ones in the OP will be fine, not an expensive mistake if they're not. EDIT Found this drawing showing how they fit on the different DIN formats EDIT 2 Very rough highlight of how the regular DIN fits.
  11. My understanding is that they bill the card when they receive the application in the UK. Gotta get the wonga before they do anything.
  12. Actually the restrictions seem fairly reasonable (see the linked article). One does wonder why they didn't think of it before and announce together
  13. The insulators themselves are ceramic and pretty well indestructable. Now if they are still on the steel frames as in the photos the steel, even galvanised, will degrade pretty rapidly, but it's really no worse than sinking an old aircraft carrier which seems a popular pastime.
  14. You might try brushing with one of the solar battery packs, ours will easily melt 6mm2! Ask me how I know Of course that was a short.
  15. Indeed they are, I just expressed surprise that they are. @BritTim provided good reasoning as to why they are still on the books.
  16. I must admit that I am more than somewhat surprised that covid extensions are still available, the rest of the known universe is getting back to something approaching "normal". It's a fact of life that these extensions will come to an end sooner rather than later so best to get planning how you are going to proceed when that happens.
  17. Yup, it was 2.5mm2 copper wire. Never blew again during construction ????
  18. And of course BEM (operators of the MRT) are resisting the government "requirement" for them to accept Rabbit cards (likewise BTS and MRT+ cards). Both are likely to be gazumped by the current trend towards using contactless EMV (credit and debit) cards for transit applications.
  19. Yup, it was designed with mobile and other electrically noisy environments in mind, but it's finding its way into other areas of course. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAN_bus
  20. The problem is with the Sofar inverters, there's a software issue that with no BMS comms they treat the pack as lead-acid (leading to a max charge of around 80% if you have LiFePO4) no matter what you actually set the parameters to. It's a known issue and Sofar are showing no interest in sorting it.
  21. A welcome development, maybe they will make it permanent for foreigners as well as Thais. To be honest I'm not really sure just how much delay stamping the TM6 and filing the Arrival half really adds. Of course, when one goes for an extension and doesn't have a TM6 ...
  22. Just show your passport indicating you are over 60 and ask for an "Elder" card. EDIT If you already have an MRT+ card you will have to refund it and then buy a new card. There's a minimum balance that's refundable so, like me, you may have to add value to your exiting card, immediately refund it (no fee), then get your Elder card. If they say not for farang let me know by PM which station and roughly when then try a different station (I still have contacts in BEM Operations who will "council" errant operators). EDIT 2 Just to clarify for the BTS card, the Business Rules are set by BSS (Bangkok Smartcard System) who operate the Rabbit payment system and not by BTS themselves.
