  1. I am just curious to know if anyone has any viewpoints on the financial health of the gay related business sector in Thailand ( bars, massage parlours, guesthouses etc ) in view of the slow but ever present inflationary pressures?

It seems to me they must be getting severely squeezed by increasing costs but without increasing revenue? And it's not just here of course it's all around the world which means surely gay tourists even if they still come to Thailand ( and there is increased competition now in Cambodia, Laos and even Myanmar ) this high season gay tourists are also like to have less disposable income?

Food prices are going up quite noticeably and for example I read that electricity prices are being increased again towards the end of the year so inflation seems unrelenting and is quite visible regarding essentials.

This must also be having a terrible effect on the young Thai guys who are working in this sector because I don't see much room for bars and other venues to increase the salary payments.

When you look at the financial problems in Europe and USA you have to wonder if this tourist high season will be a strong as in the past?

  2. That's much, much more than just a sinkhole, and if repaired properly will stop the trains running for quite some time as the infrastructure will have to be strengthened considerably to make sure it doesn't just collapse again within days of reopening.

You have to have a giggle when you think about the possibilities of this country ever building a High Speed Railway network when they can't even maintain the old system in any decent manner. One shudders to think of the possibilities of riding at 300 kph on a system not maintained to the highest possible standards.

the sinking runways were a bad omen to begin with ermm.gif

  3. asiantravel i love Brazil.smile.png Well I haven't parked them here..actually there in a bank. But i just don't like the skeletons of projects in Pattaya. So I rent an apartment, I'm OK. And I also have a good life here..but I'm very concerned what's going to happen in Europe etc

so I just stay low at the moment, but for people willing to a risk I'm sure that's a lot of money to be made...

For people willing to risk there is always a lot of money to be made.....................or lost.

  5. I understand that it's some good money to make investing in a good project. I'm not rich or wealthy, but I'm okay financially wise I hope... Have been looking at some different prospects and they look very, very nice. But what You see is what You get..I just can't get that out of my mind. I liked to go to horse races. You can't go and estimate how much Your'e going to win. It's about how much can I afford to loose and having fun at the same time..

but with that kind of thinking why would you park your money in Pattaya ?

I mean It's not the only place in the world and there are some property markets

where there is an actual reason for capital appreciation?

    For example

  6. I could name a few with good track records. How about TAG group or Heights Holdings, not to forget Siam Best Enterprises of course.

I think a good way to validate a developer is to review that report, see what's recently been finished, and then see when the original delivery date was suppose to be. With that being said, few large construction projects anywhere ever get built 100% on time.

any company can fail at any time?Who would have thought Leeman Bros would go under?

There is only one way to safeguard one's hard earned money when buying an off the plan

condo in Thailand and that is only to deal with developers who are prepared to

accept payments under the 2008 Escrow Act . no matter what their excuse

any developer that doesn't agree is just using your money to gamble with.

    ed

Dosnt that act state they are NOT required to offer Escrow

well that is the point I'm making.

if they don't offer Escrow in this day and age

with so many disaster stories from the past and with the

global economy in such a precipitous position

why deal with developers who are simply using your money

    to gamble with?

  7. The report also said to only buy from established companies with good track records. There are quite a few out there that meet this criteria.

  8. I have never understood why people get upset about this. All the Thais that I know well, call me by my name unless they are explaining to someone that I am a foreigner when it is about my business. No one that I am at familiar with calls me farang as if that were my name. What is the big deal?

As someone else said, I do not always remember every Thai person's name, so why should I expect near strangers to remember mine?

then how come people in Cambodia, Myanmar , Vietnam, Malaysia etc don't continually make you feel like an alien when they know your name?

  9. I am wondering if anyone has any knowledge or experience regarding being a beneficiary to a will

    in the UK?

in May of this year I was advised I am a beneficiary and after receiving a copy of the will it was quite specific as to what would happen to the assets if I had died before the person who left the will.they would half passed to somebody else.

But now that I have outlived that person and now all that needs to be done is for properties

to be sold and the proceeds distributed I would just be interested to know what would happen

legally to the assets I have inherited should I happened to die before this matter has been finalised

and the money has been distributed?

in the event of my death is there any way I could insure those assets could be passed on to somebody else?

Thanks very much in advance for any comments or advice

  10. I wonder if this could have a similar effect here in Thailand?

Ferraris such as Ling Gu’s black 458 Spider, which reportedly cost $1 million, have come to symbolize a degree of freedom, mobility, wealth and status that hundreds of millions of Chinese can never attain.

  11. I'm surprised there aren't more accidents like this everyday. Every time I drive this route I try to keep my speed at about 120 km/hr depending on traffic and these passenger vans blow right by me so fast that I can barely see them in my rear view mirror. My guess is that they were going at least 140-150 km/hr minimum.

Driving at 120 there and thinking that you are smarter than the low so Thai drivers...

I really dread travelling in these things but sometimes it's a necessity.

the speed is one thing but I get so damned annoyed when they put their passengers lives

at increased risk by so often tailgating vehicles in front leaving far too short a safe

slowing distance and being on their bloody mobile telephones at the same time

believing they are so in control with just one hand on the steering wheelangry.png

  12. Thai drivers perform u-turns at such low speeds I am not surprised there are so many nighttime accidents of this kind. A cement truck sideways on in the fast lane of the Sukhumvit would very likely be virtually invisible to approaching cars. The truck driver shouldn't be held accountable for the foolish traffic management system that forces them to perform this always dangerous manoeuvre. Why this country doesn't invest in roundabouts and get rid of this absurd u-turn obsession I'll never know.

Yes but can you put your hand on your heart and honestly say most Thai drivers even know how to use

    a roundabout correctly?blink.png

  13. ............ he rode his motorcycle to park opposite the nightclub.......

if your gonna be a gangster and take the risk of going to a Thai slammer, at least make sure its worth a few hundred million baht. ........

no amount is worth the risk surely when you are in an environment where you have no idea

about special relationships between Thai drug dealers and the police? how could this guy

ever know who to trust ? he would have been at risk of being doublecrossed at any time.
