  1. My wife spoke english ,as did her sister and her two brothers none are bg"s her four nephews and nieces that live in bkk speak english,so does the little girl in our street and the two little boys ,i dont think they are bgs(to busy in school) many of the Thais in our village speak passable english as well ,you would be suprised how many educated Thais do ,its a way to get a good career , you dont have to be a bar girl to speak english(but i am sure it helps) personally before i married i prefered the ones that didnt as it wasnt the conversation i was looking forbiggrin.png

  2. Maybe I said it wrong and maybe you can correct me but I don't think Q S is a part of the 30 baht thing. I think they are cheap for Thai people but not free like the other Thai government hospitals. And again maybe I am nuts but I think all of the doctors and nurses work for the Navy.

I saw a doctor there last month and during the examination he called in another surgeon who specializes in laparoscopic surgery. Not sure whether or not the first doctor works solely at Queen Sirikit Hospital, but the specialist who is going to perform surgery on me next week said that he could do it at the naval hospital or at the private hospital where he also worked. Since it was not an emergency, I had to wait several weeks for the surgery to be scheduled at QS, but it could have been done sooner (and more expensively) at the private hospital.

I got the impression that the fees charged by the surgeon would have been the same or nearly the same at either hospital, but the hospital's charges at QS were considerably less.

I also confirmed a reservation for a VIP room. It was made clear that that meant someone would have to stay with me 24/7. If I wanted to be monitored continuously by the nursing staff then I would need to stay in a ward.

Registration cost me Baht 20 and the consult with the two surgeons, both of whom spoke excellent English, which lasted nearly an hour cost Baht 200. Not sure what the charges would have been if I were Thai, but clearly what I paid was less than the cost. The charges for the surgery and hospital stay will be 1/2 to 1/3 of what they would have been at Bangkok Hospital Pattaya and 1/4 to 1/8 of what is typical in the US.

In another, older thread some posters were going on and on about how "they" didn't want farang there and that farang were not treated nicely. I found everyone to be exceedingly friendly, helpful and accommodating. Aside from the two doctors most of the nurses and office staff appeared to be Naval personnel with limited to no English (it is after all a Thai military facility), but since I was accompanied by a Thai friend, the language issue posed no problem.

I'm sure in most countries if a foreigner wanted to be treated in a hospital subsidized by the government, he would be charged more than a national. There were signs up indicating that charges for foreigners would be more than for Thais and this point was also made whenever charges were discussed. It is dual pricing, but I don't see it as discriminatory in any unpleasant way (again this seemed to be an issue in the older thread I read).

I went there last month to register ,it also cost 20 baht ,Thai 10 baht ,i had read the sign wrong and handed over 200 baht ,laughter all around and was told that foreigners were charge 50% more but not that much and was given back 180 baht,i found everyone there very nice and the hospital clean and neat.

  4. Car industry is booming like crazy, loans are given massively and many people sooner or later will have problems to repay.

A classic bubble to my opinion.

In the short term it will lead to complete traffic collaps in certain cities,

Classic full employment more likely. The auto business is good so people making cars have the money to buy cars. Henry Ford figured this out a long time ago with the Model T I think. I know these Western types would like to think the rest of the world is in as bad a shape as the West but if ones listens to the economists who know as opposed to the doom and gloom Thai Visa the answer is simple. Check out Marc Faber who has said on many occasions the Thai banking sector is in much better shape than the West. Quote Faber, "Now I happen to believe if you have money on deposit in Thai banks, it's much safer than if you have deposits with Citigroup, UBS, Royal Bank of Scotland and so on, because Thai banks don't have huge derivative portfolios. JPMorgan, they have trillions of dollars in derivatives. Nobody knows how to value this 'garbage."

Yes the Thai banks have loads of money and are lending it to every Tom Dick and Somchai, just like a young guy i know who"s payments on his lovely new car are almost all of what he earns ,now he is always trying to borrow money to live. what amazes me is that they will lend money to someone like that but would not lend to a foreigner that has an income 4 times as much ,crazy.

Makes sense to me. I think most of the posters on here are foreigner's right? Would you lend them money... Sheesh..smile.png I mean look at Portugal, Spain, Italy, Greece. They are not in Thailand. And the economic expertise written about here is downright scary. Let alone the family problems.

I realize Thailand's economy is really going good and you want to slag it off but your experience with a few Thai people is no substitute for real economic data.

Why do you say i am slaging off Thailands economy? thats just a lie . I said no such thing ,in fact i said the banks have loads of money . Also i had a buisness here for 8 years(not a bar) so i think i may just be qualified to make an opinion ,dont you?

And as for lending foreigners money to make purchases ,what is wrong with that if they are solvent?

  6. I just finished typing out a fairly long and reasonably coherent post on this and then moved my mouse the wrong way and wound up on a sponsor's site with the post gone…so now to do a quicker and more slapdash effort before bed:

Some of you are, to my mind, remarkably bitter and contemptuous about this whole thing. In my 30 years experiencing this country, I’ve made the Isarn trip with a few different Thai GFs. I’ve never experienced the worst of what was described above and indeed found the experience far more pleasant than not.

I’ve made the trip without sufficient funds to be even a little bit generous and was treated with warmth and generosity. On occasions when I had more money, I never offered myself up to be exploited, was not visibly expected to, and received no ill treatment as a result of that (rather was again, treated well).

I hesitate to say this, and even apologize for doing so, but I can’t help but feel that the more extreme sorts of things some of you had happen is very possibly an indication of something about your behavior or choices and/or the woman whom you accompanied. I personally would never allow myself to be disrespected in such ways nor would I spend any time with a woman who allowed me to be or was actively complicit in it.

Were there ever any instances of behavior by relatives, neighbors or hangers on that I found unpleasant or even intolerable? Absolutely (mostly; though not exclusively, confined to inordinate and downright rude scrutiny and objectification). But my displeasure was quickly picked up on by the woman I was with or I spoke of it to her in a diplomatic and discrete way and it was dealt with.

I always had a good time. It never cost me a lot (and no more than I was willing and able to spend – which, trust me, aint all that much).

dont you realize most of us are just taking the piss and having a laugh, lighten up and laugh along with us.

Plenty i am sure ,but we are not discussing them ,only BG s and their male lovers.

  9. English Premier League,is that where grown men kick a ball around a field?

Yes, as opposed to the American or Australian way to do it. Place the "deformed ball" on the ground and then pile upp the players on top of the "ball".

Oh you mean the one wear they are so afraid that they wear padding and crash helmets so as not to get hurt?

  10. Western man only know hookers, who they have to pay first, who don't kiss, don't sleep in the bed overnight.

Did you know you have named one of the key characteristics of prostitutes? They avoid kissing. I have read a number of studies and it seems that kissing is an indication of true intimacy. Appreciably, some people are not kissable due to oral hygiene issues, smoking, etc., however, a partner that won't kiss is indicative of a relationship that lacks an emotional bond. Prostitutes avoid kissing their customers and if one takes up with one that won't kiss for other than health related issues, it is a warning sign. It tehrefore begs the question, how many people who do enter LTRs with former sex trade workers have a relationship that includes kissing. I think the response would go a long way in answering the OP's question.

I lived with a prostitute for 3 years, and she kissed me on many occasions in places that would not be appropriate to mention on this blog, but I can assure you I enjoyed it and would recommend it to others under similar circumstances.

    Prostitutes are people too!!

Yes ,but did she kiss you on the mouth?tongue.png
