  1. This seems to becoming more and more frequent. It is about time the government does something more than a light fine and a very weak jail sentence. It is time to make this kind of crime more serious with the re-introduction of the death penalty or a real life sentence. As at the moment people who are carrying out this dreadful murders do not seem put off even if they are caught.

  2. I am glad that the farmers now have the much need water that they were after but I am sure most of it will go to waste. When I first came here in May of 2000 for holiday the weather was pretty predictable and surprisingly even the Lonely Planet book was right. Jump forward to 2016 and now the weather is all over the place. Thailand is not the only place but obviously it is a world wide occurrence and the people in power need to start educating and building the infrastructure to deal with the climate changes as what they were used to and the way that seasons used to play-out are not following the old rules. Governments and their agencies must now step up to the challenge and stop looking to make a sly buck on the side and put the ordinary peoples needs first. Again, this is not only isolated to Thailand but everywhere.

  3. After speaking to my wife, I am pretty sure the normal Thai citizen would love to see the 27 yr old murder/rapist publicly executed. After I read about the story I saw he had down a similar crime before and only got a 2 yr sentence I was shocked. If they are not willing to execute how about castration and longer sentences such as 15-20yrs. Thailand really does need to sort out its idea of what jail time should be dealt out compared to the crime committed. Are those two old people who were caught picking mushrooms still in jail now after they were handed a 10 yr sentence? The mind boggles!!!!

    • They fined you because nobody submitted the TM.30 Notification Form for House Master, Owner, or the Possessor of The Residence Where Aliens Have Stayed when you moved in.
    • You could have submitted the form as the Possessor, which is why they fined you personally.
    • Some offices want this form completed for every extension of stay too.

I accept that it was partly my fault, so I am not complaining. I just was lucky I had enough money on me to cover the fine and fee. I was just hoping to highlight that this is really being observed now. Also they had that form that was recently mentioned about private information. The difference with the one in Nan compared to Phuket from what I read is my form was completely in Thai. Luckily my wife was with me and she put in the info I was willing to submit and they seemed happy with it at immigration.

  4. I have just returned from Nan immigration and everything was going fine until they asked about me being registered at the house I am currently renting. The original owner recently sold the house and the new owner is letting me to continue to rent their property. The problem was that I did not have a copy of her house book or ID, so they fined me 800 baht. I was not happy about this but what could I do as they had not finished processing my paper work and would have just sent me away to get the documents they needed. So I just kept quiet and paid the fine. The problem is normal home owners who rent out their properties to foreigners have no idea about this newish requirement unlike hotels / guesthouses and apartments.

Anyway I got a slap on the wrist and was told that next time to make sure I had all the documents plus the house registration for next time. Next bit of info is about a new immigration office going to be opening soon. Uttaradit will be getting it's own immigration office shortly. They are supposedly at the moment setting the office up and training up staff to man it. I am expecting that this will most likely be finished ready for August. The new office will be located next to the Rajabhat university in the new building with the 7-11 across from the weekend market. This will make life easier for us folks who have to traipse upto Nan everytime. So extensions and 90 days will be an easier chore.

Cheers and I hope that this is useful.

  5. If no preparation is involved at least 500 bht an hour and 10 hours up front. Get your cancellation rules straight from the start or you will be left sitting and waiting for nothing at times. If preparation is involved and this becomes teaching/tutoring... at least 700-1000 bht an hour.

Make your expectations regarding cancellations clear!

You wont get that. Where I live in Bangkok the standard rate is 300 to 400 baht an hour. You would probably get 500 an hour, that is what we paid for my daughter but I would say that is the limit

I agree with gandalf. 500 baht is reasonable for 1 hour, 1-on-1. The days of Thai's paying more than 500 baht an hour has gone as they are feeling the pinch.

  6. England citizens have made their choice. Scotland tried to shuffle up to the EU and wanted to stay and got slapped back. A referendum was held and the results stand. David Cameron should just stepdown right now and let article 50 begin. No point in waiting, lets get it started now instead of waiting for October. If all information is transparent it should not matter which party or PM is in power.

  7. I pretty much agree with lazy slipper and puchooay! As long as you do not piss off a Thai who has some connections or a foreigner who can just call immigration and report you, then you will be fine. I have had students of police officers and other high ranking positions. Thailand really does not really care as long as they see some kind of result in their child's progress.

  8. I find I have friends with mostly Thai's but I also have a small close knit group of foreign friends. My foreign friends are actually not from the UK but, South Korea, Bhutan, South Africa, Philippines, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Norway and the US. To be honest I will mix and spend time chatting with anyone if they are nice. There are also foreigners who live in my town that I do not have the time of day for because of one thing or another. The most hassle I have had in Thailand has usually been caused not by the Thai's but from other foreigners who have a bee in their bonnet or are a little aggressive/mental.

  9. Hopefully it will give power back to our own government without the hindrance from Brussels. Hopefully more jobs will be created by having companies returning to England. The pound will take a beating at the beginning but I am sure that it will do a turn around in a few years and will be just as strong if not stronger than it has been in the last 10 years

  10. For once someone who is a Thai national has had a smart idea and not a complete brain fart. What they should also do is offer more parking spaces just for lorry/truck drivers so that they can sleep in a more safer environment then the hard shoulder/side of the road which many do now. Even offer them a cheap restaurant, where they can get a good meal at a reasonable price. They do this in France at the "Le Routiers" truck park, why not here?

  11. I am working at a vocational college. The students themselves are OK, but their level of English is well below par. I am teaching English for the hotel industry, English for commerce and basic English listening and speaking. The textbooks we are given to teach are too advanced for the students vocabulary. A few of our rooms have A/C but the internet is absolutely crap as most of the students have passwords that they are supposed to use when in computer class but you can guess what they have used it for............their smart phones. Supposedly myself and another teacher are going to have to hold a CEFR training camp over a week-end next month and they have given us zero info apart from some CEFR paper work which they printed from the internet. This is going to be a complete waste of time and a disaster as I can not see the students getting anything higher than maybe A2 level if they are lucky.
