Anything gas powered you need a helmet and a license to drive. just read about in hear all the complaining about getting stopped and paying fines. Yes a international drivers permit will work but it is only good for one year. If you are staying here any length of time get your Thai License. Never had a problem when stopped having mine.

The only Gas Powered vehicle that can be ridden/driven without a License either vehicle or drivers is a gas powered bicycle! There are laws you need to insure the bike is in tune with though...

Must have lights (does not say turn, High been or brake are needed!

Must have a warning (sound device)

Must have a mirror

Must have Peddles that actually work! (In Bicycle mode, you must demonstrate they will propel Bike as flawlessly as a nomal Bicycle!!)

The one that will get everyone in trouble is it is Manditory to wear a Helmet!!!

If Police have motorcycle stopped and you pass by him or he sees you without Hemet... "He can let you go and pursue the Bicycle!!" as the fine he is going to collect from you is 100 - 1000 Baht. He can collect from Bicyclist 5,000 - 10,000 Baht!!!

I have owned both! I have converted to gas powered for several High Ranking Police for their family use.

A note that helped me when first built one was getting them to inspect at Local Police Headquarters. Many wanted to test and were all smiles afterwards. Are you sure they were not advising you to obtain a card size copy of your passport/entry stamp? That is normal advise to avoid carry of passport in home city. Or just make a copy and fold up and put in wallet. Just be sure to have passport available within a reasonable time if required.

They are of no use for entering or leaving Thailand. As a photo ID, they are no more "powerful" than a Thai Driver's License.

Easy, go to your local Immigration Office... They all have an Information Counter...

Ask for a Extentin of Say form I believe it is a TM 7 form and also ask for list of requirements needed to accompany it to take to Immigration to get New Visa. It is in English and they have it already printed out. but it might be under their counter.

I have done for many years, I believe your fee is also 1,900 Baht. I know all the temp visa are this amount. Retirement Visa is also. You can get single entry or multiple entry stamps at same time. I believe they are 1,000 and 3,800 Baht also. Getting them at this time saves time if you leave Thailand for any reason.

(don't have to go to Office if for some reason you need to leave Kingdom for any unexpected reason. I have always carried a single entry for just this purpose. Some I had never used.... But it was just security! Understand?)

If you choose the option in U.S.A. to get a Passport Card...

1st question: How would you use that here? I think if you go to Post Office that deals with Passports in U.S. they give you an option.

2nd Question: If you have the Passport Card Option... where do all your Visa's Stamps... go?

I had thought about using this option as safe to carry! Because as of December 22nd @ Immigration Office in Chiang Mai, Sgt. Major was asked while renewing my Retirement Visa if we still needed to carry Passport everyday on our Person.

She went to Col. in charge of Chiang Mai Immigration and he personally told me verbally... "Yes" in must be on person whenever we are outside home. You can carry copies of Photo page, entry stamp/Visa, entry card and if 90 day page is attached a copy of it also.... But you must report to Police Office that requested to see, within 24 hrs!!!! Only thing carrying does is saves you from leaving the location you are at when stopped and having to be escorted to Police Office and be detained for an undetermed amount of time.

As a time saver, I would Carry mine. I donot know how this would work with a Passport Card though....

I was suggested the Passport Card at U.S. Embassy when I got my Income Verification Certified... So I guess they are aware that it can be used here.

Just another item... If you go to Bangkok Bank and request a Bank Book plastic sleave... Passports fit inside nicely! Giving them a waterproof cover. I am sure other Banks sleaves will do same as all our bank Books are about the same size. They are tight! bend book and insert they will stretch with the heat in your back pocket... and are free! Just tell them your need new vinyl cover... yours is torn!

They had the DNA samples tested BEFORE they had any real suspects. They were looking for ASIAN suspects on the island. They found two that matched according to what I read. They either have the match or they don't.

As far as the tortured confession, that should be a separate investigation and if wrong-doing then fire and prosecute the guilty. And throw the confession out if that is found.

Then forget all this peripheral BS. Lets get it into court. The DNA match is there or it isn't, that's it!

The Bodies of the Victims are and have been in UK long before these 2 Kids were singled out as being guilty. I am sure, without a doubt that Scotland Yard has taken their own DNA Samples and has them secured. Now, to see if what Thailand has is a match! Or what Scotland Yard has... Matches the accused... Otherwise Heads will roll on the International Level. Thus removing all Tourists from it shores as UK uses this as a Case in Point to Red Flag Thailand.

UK Investigators are 5 Star! If they even get close to Headman on Island they can get DNA from anything he touches, and may already have!

I've also noticed some posters on these Koh Tao threads with very, very high post counts, like 10-20 every single day for months; a few also have suspiciously similar names and posts (--John-- and similar in case you're curious) and to me come across as shills because they continually either praise the investigation without giving doing much other than parrot the police press releases, or otherwise mis-direct or try derail the thread by making irrelevant comparisons to other countries (as if two wrongs make a right), o badger people who are posting comments critical of this farce I mean investigation.

I suggest readers of these threads read with a critical eye anything written pro or con the handling of this case; though to be frank in my eyes the cons outweigh the pros 100 to 1.

Another ignorant i.e. misinformed comment the Thai authorities and some posters have made is that the rape of poor Hannah was due to sexual lust. This just shows they never took criminology 101, though interestingly it plays right into the framing scenario (or is another reason it's ludicrous, so in fact they're actually weakening their case in the eyes of all but the gullible by focusing on it as motive).

I've seen my share of gore in real life and not much shocks me any more, but the photos I saw of Hannah did. Whoever did that to her is a monster or was drugged up into being one. Brutal, vicious beyond anything short of a beheading; I actually encourage all of you interested in this case, especially the Thai-apologists, to seek these photos out, see for yourself, and then come back here and make word-play about her, David, or these two Burmese guys. In my conspiratorial moments I can see this as an action directed either intuitionally or not at many foreigners in Thailand. The comments on the Thai side within days worrying or hoping about the effect on tourism have also disgusted me but also revealed what I've long known about Thailand, since I first started visiting it couple of decades+ back: we are tolerated for our money, at times given respect for our relative wealth/power (i.e. that of our native countries), but there is also a very, very strong current of envy and dislike bordering on contempt for us (and no small part of that is deserved due to the behaviour of many of us in Thailand), and that combination is a toxic one, it can and does lead to violence.

So open your eyes, folks, this is about all of us. Look at the facts; it would be very good actually for someone(s) to put together an online source of verified information related to the case, as well as a list of unanswered questions, of which there are many. The mantra for all of this should be "never again."

British Ambassador Mark Kent told AFP he was meeting with the Thai police, foreign ministry officials and his Myanmar counterpart, without giving further details.

I will be expecting a Thai official reiterating how happy the British and Burmese embassies are about the handling of this case.

There are so many ways to obtain real DNA data other than sperm. for one thing there seems to be some struggle so another place needs to be check is under the nails. I think the Thai authorities should be on notice in case they temper with evidence.
