  1. What the H? i bought a 20.5 inch?? frame on a hybrid bike at Mong not long ago. I'm more than 6 feet tall. I'll tell you this: damn few Thais could reach the pedals.

How big are U? And who besides U wants such a specialized bike? Maybe, god forbid, you're a 'moaner' on all things Thai.

  2. Whether you liked Sizzler's at KSK is immaterial, it's gone. But a far bigger question is whether the KSK mall itself is under threat as the loss of that shopping center will affect the entire neighborhood and many, many farangs and locals. Much emptiness on the KSK upper floors for sure, so maybe a big change is in the works.

Do we need another MAYA, or monster housing complex complete with 6 floors of car park but no good food court? Too bad, but only the rich elite and government beneficiaries will get rewarded with a new construction. Frankly, and maybe it's only me, but i decry the great loss of open green land and trees in favor of ugly car parks or equally ugly shopping malls blaring out their mind-numbing LED 'buyme, buyme' messages 24/7.

Just look at the pile of concrete feces next to Nankornping Condo, which just last year was a lovely garden. Now 'HOPINN'. I'm tempted to move to the countryside.

  3. From Tha Pae Gate to train station is 2.2 km, google. So that massive hi-rise near train station is OK, and since it precludes the 'new, bigger red zone' it's also OKOK.

Gud to know. I could well imagine a CM of low thatched houses, innumerable, and colorful, trees and vines, the occasional well-muffled motorbike, smoky 'maryjane-in-the-air' coffee shops all operating in harmony to create an ambiance of quiet and beauty.

  4. Any condos at all within the moat area? And if so, are any structured to permit condo ownership by a farang?

I searched google but could only find condos within 'city', an area much larger than 'old town'. And since the old town restricts height of buildings to 4 stories, ground plus 3, maybe none exist.

And, while i have your attention, could a farang buy a house and rent the land with a 30 yr lease, within the moat?

  5. Did they mention to carry one's own gas mask when walking the Moat Road? Maybe YOU don't live in town, but those who do live in the city choke, gasp and cry for relief from the noxious and unnecessary air pollutants pumped out by the motor vehicles crawling along both sides of the moat.

True that a casual visitor who confines himself to the inner city or wanders only to Loi Kroh Rd may not get the full dose of daily pollution and thus accept the idea that CM is a swell holiday.

The first step surely must be to eliminate the Red Cars, or at least retro-fit every one to propane.

  6. Yeah, the dog (s )inside the gate, next to the house lying in wait and i walk by on the public street. They lunge at the fence, snarling and barking and if they could, would rip off my legs.

Then those same dogs, from 9 at night till 2 am barking barking and more barking at the moon or the motorbikes. The owners are deaf and dumb stupid. Ask a Thai to train a dog? Hardly, since most Thais have no concept of dog obedience.

IMO, let them be dead with no remorse. But i did not kill them.

  7. Tasty, yes. But consider this

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified processed meat as a carcinogen, something that causes cancer. And it has classified red meat as a probable carcinogen, something that probably causes cancer. IARC is the cancer agency of the World Health Organization.

Processed meat includes hot dogs, ham, bacon, sausage, and some deli meats. It refers to meat that has been treated in some way to preserve or flavor it. Processes include salting, curing, fermenting, and smoking. Red meat includes beef, pork, lamb, and goat.

  8. Winter in Canada is the 'high season' here and golf courses are loaded with players. In Chiang Mai our group must tee off at 7am to avoid the rush of Korean and Japanese folks. Expect to pay, even with some kind of membership, during the high season, at least 2000 baht, all in, per 18 holes. And that would be the very least, with some up to 4500 baht.

At one nearby course if you want to play alone and hit two balls, for the practice, over the 18 holes, you must take 2 caddies.

  9. Why such drama? Seems the solution is simple: never shop there again.

And as far as the Mars bar, the Coke can, and all the other items from yesteryear, learn to read the label and make a judgement. Take a look around you and learn everything costs more compared to 25 yrs ago.

It's a scam when the label says beef but only horse meat can be found in the bag.
