  1. @Lemsta69 I'll wait..........................
  2. Copy and paste where I said that - or retract the comment.
  3. Old stock !! ???? Just how long did the manufacturers expect Her Majesty to live ???
  4. .....and you write from the glasshouse of Cambodia ????....be careful where you throw those stones!
  5. A friend just got his back after 9 weeks and was more concerned that the new black passport still had the words "Property of HER majesty's government...
  6. You are the only person saying that is fake news. Others are saying is probably poor/inadequate reporting....but then what would you expect from owners without a journalistic background.
  7. Jesus! Your missus is going to have a whale of a time...???? Might as well take her to Jump and Frickley Colliery!
  8. Then she needs re-educating. ???? The Old Trafford tour is actually very good and the souvenirs from there were well received by Buriram family members - even if they did support Liverpool!@
  9. This was a winner with my missus (as was the Highlands) and we regularly make return visits. Grasmere, Hawkshead, Ambleside, Keswick. One moment she was running on the fells shouting "Baa" at the sheep, 2 hours later she was enjoying roast lamb in a pub in Coniston.
  10. I bet she knows a lot more about places in Thailand that she has never been to. Social media is brilliant for broadening the mind, or researching places that you might want to see. Even in Thai they can Google "where should I visit on my first trip to the UK". My missus asked if we could visit Lausanne in Switzerland. "Why Lausanne, I asked"......... she went on to explain that the late King spent his early years with his mother and she would like to see where he lived. A good enough explanation, so we went. This year we are taking in Budapest because she thought it looked interest on You Tube bloggs etc. London Eye is worth a look but London offers so much more with riverside walks, old fashioned pubs (try looking up the Prospect of Whitby, the oldest riverside pub in the UK in the Docklands area. Take in a show but remember the language/culture barriers; we did Phantom of the Opera - we were also lucky to find the Killers performing at Wembley on one visit.
  11. Banks pass on all their costs, simple as that. The higher costs of handling/processing cash are simply spread amongst other customers (usually the retailer paying in the cash). The retailer then spreads his costs across all customer with his pricing policy.
  12. Do the Old Trafford tour and get a photo of her wearing a BUFC shirt - that will go down well on social media.
  13. You are touching on something important there. Don't ask US where you should take her, get her to do some research into where SHE would l;ike to go and what she would like to see. For our first trip I organised everything based on what I thought she would enjoy; I wasn't wrong but for future UK visits (and Europe) I told my missus to come up with a list of places to see - and the reasons why. I wanted her invested in the planning aspect of the trips. My missus wanted to see snow so we went to the Highlands in late March. Easyjet flights to Inverness are cheap. Pack dry Mama noodles and chilli. Avoid over-priced UK Thai restaurants that sell dumped down versions of Thai food but find someone that your wife can speak Thai to at least once a week. Avoid the local Thai mafia.
  14. That is hardly a recommendation, the 'news' reporting here is abysmally flawed. If you are smart you would seek independent confirmation......as you should with any of my posts (which are usually more grammatically accurate than the these 'newspapers'.
  15. I suspect that they were unable to provide identification. You are surely not dumb enough to accept Thai newspaper reporting verbatim?
  16. Excellent. You do understand that not all stories end up with a happy ending.
  17. Do we ? I read stories of people saying that they have heard stories about stories...................? If you are stopped for some reason and cannot identify yourself then expect the police to detain you until you are able to do so - that does not necessarily involve a passport. DO NOT give your passport to a 'normal' policeman; only immigration officials have the right to inspect your passport.
  18. The Lebua Tower, Sheraton Grande and JW Marriott Khao Lak were happy with D/L ....................I don't do higher end than that.
  19. I disagree that the thread is silly - what is silly is those people believing the myth that a passport should be carried at all times. To be fair to those people that advice comes from many sources - including UK.GOV (although I couldn't find it - even with a link from Thaizer. https://www.thaizer.com/carrying-your-passport-in-thailand/ The debate may sound familiar - from 2013 Richard Barrow and 2014 Buriram Expats. https://www.richardbarrow.com/2013/08/always-carry-your-passport-or-a-copy-while-in-thailand/ http://www.buriramexpats.com/forum/index.php?topic=7872.15
  20. In 2011, the government led by Abhisit Vejjajiva proposed that the minimum age for identification card should be reduced from 15 to 7 years, in order to reduce the use of birth certificate and other evidences for children
  21. Several hotels have refused to accept pink cards - I expect because they don't understand the. I have never had a DL refused.
  22. Yorkie - you never venture past the char siew stall - and she would never ask for it! ????
  23. Not necessarily the current one.....????
  24. Thank you again - and I understand and agree with everything as above. So, the last thing I ask for (for completeness - and the ability to kill off the next thread in which someone says you have to carry your passport) is the legal reference that states "all people in Thailand (Thai or Foreign) must carry government issued Photo ID. " Now THAT, must exist and if necessary I will search the Civil & Commercial Code again tomorrow.
