  1. Many a pleasant evening spent there.
  2. So you don't know any unvaccinated people who died then? There were a lot.
  3. For which most countries offer/advise vaccination protection for anyone over 50.
  4. I am visiting Siem Reap later this month and I was disappointed to see that one of my favourite restaurants (Olive restaurant) has not reopened. I was wondering how much has reopened in Siem Reap and what the current vibe is. I understand from the huge drop in visitors to Angkor Wat that tourist numbers remain decimated.
  5. I think that is a standard question on the TM8 form.
  6. For those of us with visas/extensions it is obvious that a re-entry permit is valid for the duration of that visa/extension. What about expats with Permanent Resident status - how long is their re-entry valid for?
  7. Lovely idea..........................but are you familiar with the phrase "don't bite the hand that feeds you....". I am guessing that the Tam Ruat have more than a vested interest in NOT making arrests.
  8. It is just another piece of Thai paper in a yellow cover. The word international appears in there but it gives no extra validity. You will have a paper certificate of vaccine and a digital copy....that is sufficient to satisfy the requirements for "evidence of vaccination".
  9. Why do you want one? "Evidence of vaccination" is all that is required for entry purposes etc.
  10. The OP has simplified matters as far as premature death of his wife is concerned - just return to the UK, the family can have the Thai assets. The UK Will covers most things and a good executor will ensure that the beneficiaries receive their dues. As identified in an earlier post, any widows benefit from occupational pensions should be identified and a nomination form submitted. It seems that the only asset in Thailand is the money held for Immigration purposes. A Thai Will covering this should be knocked up as a back up. Many people choose the slightly illegal act of withdrawing via the ATM after death. A good practical way forward to avoid any possible Lawyer/Probate fees.
  11. Nobody gets out of this adventure alive!
  12. +1 ....happened last week. Invariably they try a small transaction first. The only ba11s-ache is waiting for the new card. Mine gets sent to a UK address and I am reluctant to have the card posted on to Thailand. I only use the card for online transactions and occasional currency transactions ie large restaurant or hotel bill so I will wait until my daughter visits later in the year.
  13. Mine is 'O'. They checked which visa extension I had; I don't know if they treat other classes differently.
  14. I would disagree. I do know that sin somros applies to MARITAL assets.
  15. Would seem logical - but it is not mentioned anywhere in the reporting.
  16. Pom Poot Passa Thai Mai Dai. That will get you through the door................beyond that "Falang know too mutt".
  17. Frankly, that will be a disadvantage in Buriram.
  18. Just to clarify. I opened an account with Kasikorn last Friday. Needed a Certificate of Residence. No problem, Jomtien very efficient collected it after 1 hour (I had expected it to be next day - or posted). I had wanted to open an account in my name and also a joint account with the missus. Unfortunately, I couldn't get hold of her on Friday so we went together on Monday. Perhaps I shouldn't have been surprised that Kasikorn require ANOTHER Certificate of Residence and cannot use the one they had from Friday. I thought I would be clever and call the Call Centre in the hope that they might say different. No, they confirmed that there is a strict set of documents that are needed for each account opening.
  19. Just to confirm - the Thai death certificate issued by the local amphur is sufficient for UK Probate etc purpose. A translation will be required. This document is an unnecessary expense in most cases:- "If you wish, you can register the death with the Overseas Registration Unit. You can buy a UK-style death certificate, known as a Consular Death Registration certificate. A record will be sent to the General Register Office within 12 months". https://www.gov.uk/guidance/what-to-do-after-a-british-person-dies-in-thailand

  21. Thank you for taking the trouble to reply with such a comprehensive and well-balanced response.
  22. I went into Pattaya City hospital once. It was like a farm yard, I walked out and went to Pattaya Memorial.
  23. Thank you. If someone signs a loan (shark) agreement with an interest rate of, say, 7% per month - would you say that is illegal/enforceable?
