Will pepper spray stop dog attacks
thaiowl replied to georgegeorgia's topic in Plants, Pets & Vets in Thailand
I bike a lot and use a taser to scare aggressive dogs. The noise scares them. You can buy on Lazada: https://www.lazada.co.th//products/i5012416944-s21183716450.html?spm=a2o42.cart.0.0.7ba36108mvnyMy&urlFlag=true -
I have had two courses of rabies injections. The first course (of 5 injections over 1 month) was when I was scratched by a monkey and the 2nd course last year (2 injections over 3 days) when I was bitten by a dog. Best to get treatment when you think you may have been exposed to rabies...when rabies symptoms start to show, it's too late.

Story Of My Thai Citizenship Application
thaiowl replied to dbrenn's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I applied for PR in 2007 and eventually got it in 2012. I was thinking about applying for citizenship but didn't bother in the end. Don't need to own land/business and am retired, so no need to work. In hindsight, I should have applied for citizenship and not bothered with PR. -
I was scratched by a monkey many years ago and had a course of 5 rabies injections and a tetanus injection. Last year, while biking in Chumphorn, i was bitten by a dog. Went to a private hospital and they gave me a course of 2 rabies injections and a tetanus injection. I only needed 2 rabies injections because I had had a full course of 5 injections before. The first visit to the hospital cost Bt2,000 and the 2nd rabies injection cost Bt500. I have been to Mongkutwattana Hospital a few times. My daughter was born there!

Football heroes: Kent veterans lead England to World Cup glory
thaiowl replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Saw England veterans win the World Cup in Hua Hin a few years ago. Steve Jones was in the team (as he was this year), along with Dean Barrick (ex Sheff Wed), Peter Beagrie (ex Everton) Barry Hayles (ex Fulham, Andy Hessenthaler (ex Gillingham). -
I imported a "Shadow" machine in 1996 and it still works pretty well. I've had to tinker with it over the years but manged to mend it. I import parts from The Pinball Heaven in the UK. I would love to find an electro- mechanical machine to buy in Thailand.

Thailand's minor cities are becoming popular travel destinations
thaiowl replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I enjoy travelling to the lesser known towns of Thailand. Last week, we went to Chainat and Nakhon Sawan and found some interesting places to visit/eat/stay. For Bt990/night, we got a great hotel in Nakhon Sawan. You have to take to rough with the smooth when doing this type of trip. -

I have PR...when your PR is approved, immigration give you a letter to take to your district office instructing them to put your name on the blue book of your residence. -

What devices are best for constant dog attacks?
thaiowl replied to NONG CHOK's topic in Plants, Pets & Vets in Thailand
I bike most days and used to have problems with soi dogs. I now have a taser bolted to my handlebars. If dogs start to chase me, I deploy the taser which emits a loud crackling noise that dogs are afraid of (like they are frightened of the loud bangs made by fireworks). The taser just makes a noise...doesn't harm the dogs. You can buy them on Lazada: https://www.lazada.co.th/products/1101-i5031043890-s21271785118.html? -
Go in to the router settings and change the settings to allow roaming. My son has a tp-link mobile router with a DTAC SIM card and can only use it outside Thailand if the router settings are set to allow roaming. See this link: https://www.tp-link.com/ae/support/faq/1649/

Why is there so much trash on the grass verges in Hua Hin
thaiowl replied to ThaiPauly's topic in Hua Hin and Cha-Am
For the last 9 years I have picked up litter on the bike lane in Hua Hin. I usually do a big bag per day (see attached) and guess that I have picked up a total of about 9 tons of litter so far. It never ends...once I get to the end, I start again. I reckon that if people see litter on the verge, they are more likely to throw away their own litter in the same place. It's all about education, parenting, accountability, pride, integrity etc. Hopefully, the new generation will see that their country is becoming a rubbish tip and change their habits. In the meantime, if anyone fancies picking up litter on the bike lane, feel free. One bag a day makes a difference. -

Where to get rabies and tetanus shots in Cha am (or Hua Hin)
thaiowl replied to Kayahammer's topic in Hua Hin and Cha-Am
If you have had rabies shots in the past and get bitten again, you only need 2 rabies shots. From CDC: "If exposed to rabies, previously vaccinated persons should receive two IM doses (1.0 mL each) of vaccine, one immediately and one three days later. " -
In 2008, I did not go through with the purchase of a condo because the seller's wife refused to sign the from of consent. I believe there is a form of consent to buy and then sell a condo. If the form of consent is not signed, the purchase/sale can be revoked within 10 years of the transaction taking place. This is from my lawyer in 2008: "Please also note that Khun _____’s wife and yours are required to sign a spousal letter of consent and present the same to the Land Registrar upon closing otherwise it will be subject to revocation of the sale and purchase transaction by the respective contracting parties’ wife."
