  1. Is this a storm in a teacup aimed at attracting a little publicity for a mediocre, reality tv show? 400,000 people, and 50 - 100 deaths in one year? Overall, that is a good average. How many would have died in Sweden from the same demographic? Maybe fewer, but not much I would suspect.

Sweden has a yearly death rate of about 10,210 deaths per 100,000 people. So if 400,000 Swedes spent an entire year here then I guess we should expect 40,840 deaths. But to be fair, lest say they only spend an average of 10-days here then we should expect 1,119 Swedish deaths in Thailand each year (40,840 / 36.5 where 36.5 x 10= 365 days in a year ). But this too is not really fair....

Lets knock off 80% from the 1,119 figure and pretend that 80% of deaths in Sweden are people who are ill and wouldn't travel while also pretending there are no Swedish retirees living and visiting in Thailand.

So 20% of 1,119 is 224 deaths or more than double the number who died in the worst year in Thailand.

I pretty much am assuming my math is off or I didn't properly understand the data because it is hard to believe that Swedes are more than twice as safe visiting a less developed country than at home ... then again, this wouldn't make for good TV in Sweden.

Note that 36% of deaths in Sweden are actually due to Coronary & Heart Disease and stroke which often come without warning. No other causes go into double digit percentages. Suicides make up 1.8% of deaths and are the 14th leading cause of death in Sweden. About 5.4% of deaths are from accidents/injuries such as car, falls, violence, fire, drugs, alcohol ...

Have you applied for a job at the Ministry for Propaganda?

You could help massage figures for the rice disaster, imports, exports, tax collection, tax expenditure, national debt etc.

  2. "have been manufactured on the back of forced labour and children."

Not that I approve of it but what is going to happen to these children.

For a lot of them it is eat or starve.

It is easy to say stop the child labor but what are you going to do with the children?

Whilst I don't really approve of children working, when you look at a family business that's in, say, the farming industry and the time comes to pick fruit or whatever, the kids probably want to be out in the field with the family. Are they paid? Probably not much if anything. Is it child "labour"? Good question.

Provided kids have their school time, eat and drink the right things, sleep enough, are healthy and happy then I'm all for helping the family a few hours.

If they are working full time at factories then that's another matter altogether.

  3. A pretty good set of points Mister Pommegranite.

    Pick of the bunch?

.....That is not only democratic, but also logical. If a man is responsible for spending your money to make your life better, you are entitled to make fun of that man and ask him to show accountability. It's illogical for the man to take your money, spend it and have you arrested for being disgruntled about the way he does his job.

This does, of course, equally apply to the fairer sex

  4. "Abhisit said the latest move goes against democratic principles."

That's fresh coming from a man who was never democratically elected and sanctioned the murder of protesters exercising their democratic right to peacefull protest.

The reds indoctrination knows no bounds.

Just goes to show its true if you tell a lie often enough someone will believe you.

No doubt this poster agrees with MICT

Oh get over it you lot, Pheu Thai won with an overwhelming majority, they are the government and they get to call the shots, show me any democracy on earth where this isn't the case.

    Thailand.

    Unelected Thaksin calls the shots.

Orders are carried out by his equally unelected sister.

Show me another 'democracy' as democratic as that!!!
