And as I sit drinking my Cheers beer, the parade of TV folks commenting on this thread has kept me entertained for hours.... keep them coming folks!

I want Yingluck to "forgive me"! As many times as possible.

Many TV posters have understandably expressed hopes that Mr. T's government will pull back from this potentially destructive bill but he has he has one foot in the door and is supposed to have said last week he doesn't know how to spell ' lose '.
The importance of face in Thai culture makes it difficult for the simplest of U-turns as even a ' for the good of the country ' excuse will be seen as defeat and that's not something he will be able to take. I am afraid that DL has staked too much on this and will happily let the country descend into all sorts of chaos no matter the disasterous effect on the people that he professes to love so much, well if they support and vote for him that is.
No matter what happens here he is above it all, he can sit in Dubai and enjoy his money, travel at will and deny stiff that it had anything to do with him.
Difficult to U Turn? Do you actually follow Thailand news? Every day there is a politician or bureaucrat doing a U turn from a previous days statement or program proposal. Thailand is the HUB of U turns...lol

Its been a few years since we had a good riot. Looking forward to this one! Funny to think of who the army would support, considering, both the reds, yellows and blues greens, pinks etc. are against the bill.
BUT - if the protest leaders think that 10,000 people protesting is going to get the job done they are mistake. Need about 500,000 to make any difference. (You know, the number that the Red shirts always claimed to have at their rallies...lol)-

Thoughts with the families of the victims. No way in hell I'd ever set foot on one of those ferries. Unregulated and dangerous.

Why is anyone religious? And does it serve a purpose? The amount of bizarre singling out of "The Thais" on TV is truly amazing/pathetic. Take people one at a time, and judge them on their merits.

Gawd OP, the clues were hardly subtle. Always a challenge for some of our North American cousins this sarcasm thing.
Satire, not sarcasm. I know the differentiation of those two words is difficult for our British cousins across the pond...
So Stradavarius37, just for clarification.
Did the events in the OP actually happen, then realising that the topic had been done a lot recently, decided that, to keep face, you say it's now just Satirical?
Or, the OP is completely false?
I look forward to your reply and clarification.
Just so you know ... I previously posted in support of your OP.

I wonder if the OP's example sample size is slightly skewed.....

In the past I have had several thai girlfriends but the last two were Thai Chinese. I actually like those chicks. First of all, in my opinion mixed race is always better for several reasons. For example, they tend to look better. But that's just one thing. I wouldn't stay with a girl just because she looks good. But on the other side and I am not saying it in a disrespectful way, I believe that in general they are more intelligent, have a wider perspective and more goal oriented. These traits might not be those that someone else looks for but I consider it important. The things that many of us in my opinion are well aware of: their career is important to them, you can call them anything but lazy, and instead of waiting for a man to come along and take care of them, they grab the wheel and take control..along other traits make them attractive to me. I know that a lot of guys like it when the gf/wife stays home all day, cooks, cleans and what not. And they enjoy it that the woman is with them most of the time and they do most things together. I could not do that. Matter of fact I hated that when I had a thai gf. And I am not saying that all thai girls are like that but most are.
The girl I date now is Thai Chinese too. She is fluent in 4 languages, well educated, has a good job with high salary. She works five days a week and that means we get to see each other every day but we don't get the chance to spend almost the entire day together which in my opinion after a while would kill the relationship.
But anyway, it's just the way I see it and that's my experience. I like the way they are and am curious what you think of them and what's your experience of being in a relationship with a Thai Chinese.
Stop stealing my satire bit...

Nothing gets me more irritated than being the victim of racism. I have experienced it my whole life. From the moment that my father looked at my darker skin tone as a newborn and accused my mother of sleeping with the Mexican gardener, and then proceeded to calling me his little "burrito baby" until I was 15, to the time in university when my gf drew a <deleted>-manchu mustache on me in permanent marker when I was passed out drunk, and I had to walk around like that all semester with people thinking I was oriental...it was humiliating, but it also made me understand what it is like to be a minority...
Yesterday I was making my way down Silom Road in Bangkok, wearing my traditional Thailand-wear ensemble of my favorite least-stained Beer Chang tank top, camouflage cut offs and crocs with athletic socks. I stopped in to the local 7-11 and bought myself 4 bottles of Cheers beer (the absolute finest, imo) and set myself on the curb outside to enjoy a bottle of refreshing liquid courage...(It takes courage to go home to my old lady these days. She's taken to pulling out my man boobs and motor boating them viciously when I am late...)
Well, imagine my surprise when a group of Thai teenagers walked by, saw me (minding my own business, of course) and proceeded to point in my direction saying "Blah blah blah farang blah blah blah". Well, I KNOW that the word farang is racist, because I learned that from my daily readings of the fantastic threads on the TV General Forum - and I did what any upstanding middle aged man of European decent would have done. I stood up and said "POM MAI FARANG!" "MAI DAI MAI DAI". Well needless to say they were shocked at my suddenly revealed language skills, and they scampered off.
I was sad at having to raise my voice, because I am very respectful of the local cultures and traditions...but the use of that racist word always gets me angry. Who do those group of Asians think they are anyway???

what about ex-prostitutes?I wouldn't allow prostitutes to hang around my house or interact with my wife and children.
Don't care to whom they are related, not where I'm living.
Are they every really ex-prostitutes?
Usually they just end up with one farang customer.
Careful, your class is showing...

I thought there were enough subtle clues for people to detect the satire...but maybe i posted it too late in the day... the bar stools had been warmed up too long by then..

That may be, but never underestimate Thaksin's ability to screw things up. That's what got him into trouble in the first place.Thaksin and the Army/Prem struck a deal. No one else matters. Its all over, fat lady is warming up...
If so, any "deal" would of been royally appointed. There's absolutely no evidence of this (if there is, please share if poss).
The bill has only just left the house and is meeting massive resistance. Things seem like they are heading very 2006 pre-coup.
You are not allowed to use the word "massive" unless you can show me a group larger than 20,000 people protesting....Massive? I'll wait...

It HAS been a while since the obligatory double pricing thread hasn't it?

There won't be any serious opposition. Its obvious that Thaksin and the old establishment have cut a deal. The Yellows and Reds have no serious chance because they lack any great number of "True believers". The yellow numbers swell when the old establishment paid them, the red number swell when Thaksin paid them. No one is paying because they have agreed on how to split the pie. This is the end of a 7 year chapter. Thaksin will be back in PM office in 6 months.
Come on....In the old Yellow days there were a lot true believer...half my staff went there every evening.
But this fire is gone. Without Samak on TV it doesn't work.
If they aren't going now..they aren't, and never were, true believers...

I was taking my son to the Sampran Elephant Grounds and Crocodile Farm yesterday. They charged my son the Thai price (he is a luk krueng) but wanted me to pay the farang tourist price!! I showed them my Thai driver's licences and used my best Thai phrase (Mee hong nam mai?) but the gate agents were merciless. I grabbed my protesting 7 year old son and left, because I will not let his happiness be a barrier to my firm moral stand against such vile corruption... No elephant is worth paying an extra 50 baht because of the color of my skin.
I got into my new Mercedes and drove off...

Red shirts were not betrayed - they were just too stupid to understand that they were being used by Thaksin for his own personal objectives. Their sense of "betreyal" isn't worth a cup full of luke-warm piss.

As soon as the amnesty law is passed and signed, she will dissolve the house - Thaksin will be the PM candidate, and will be back in office within 6 months. Mark it down...
