There's been some talk about this in unrelated threads (eg closing of KSK), and it seems not many know about it so here it is: the satellite IO which was formerly at Promenada has reincarnated at Central Festival, 2nd floor, slightly out of sight in a side alley between the Supersports and AIIZ stores.

90 days report in Chiang Mai -
arithai12 replied to RedReding's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
That should be good. But just in case, you can pick up any Immigration form from the small waiting area outside, which is conveniently located a few meters from the drive-thru 90d window. You don't need to park, just hop off your car and back. Also, as a general info, the second IO previously at Promenada has now relocated to Central Festival mall, 2nd floor. For those who like a stroll and a meal together with their Immigration business. -
Bangkok ranked 2nd best city worldwide, best in Asia for digital nomads
arithai12 replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Today I learned that Bangkok has excellent weather and scenery. Maybe they mean inside an aircon room and looking at the ladies? -
The last time the rate was 70 was around 2006, that's 16 years ago. There's no way that the number of tourists was comparable with those of 2-3 years ago. As for safer, I have my doubts. We were all younger, we didn't spend hours reading things off the internet, we probably didn't know so much about crimes. Cleaner beaches 20y ago: that goes without saying, it's true for the whole planet. There's always two sides to a "favorable" exchange rate. You love it as a tourist or as a pensioner paid in a foreign currency, you hate it if you are a resident and earn a salary in Baht, or if you like to buy imported things. Thailand exports/imports a lot, so extreme low or high rates are bad for some sectors of the economy as a whole and that in the end trickles down to the average person.

Could Thailand now be the place to book a holiday?
arithai12 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
In your dreams. Does the writer actually live/eat out in Thailand? Not sure what he's trying to say. But if we live here, maybe we don't need this? -
No masks, cannabis legal, bars open, is Thailand back to normal?
arithai12 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I also filled the TM6 (arrival card) about a week ago. I was actually happy to have it. The announced suspension was supposed to be "temporary", who knows how they will deal with it by the time I need to visit Immigration again. -
Why sad? I am a foreigner in CM who wore a mask often before Covid, wore it all the time during Covid, and wear it more often than not now. There are many reasons: from shielding my nose from the sun while I am riding on the road (if cloudy I keep it under the chin), to not being bored with shaving every day, to pollution, to being old and with conditions who doesn't want to risk an infection, or to being young and healthy but living with old and sick people, ditto. With people I know indoors I remove it. If I walk in a crowd I keep it. And btw, I recently visited my home country in EU where there is no mask mandate in public, and it was much the same: many keep it on voluntarily in a crowded place. I think this will be the new normal for a while, better get used to it. Enjoy your freedom, don't judge others.

New superhero power: know how much people tip in bars just by looking at them.

The secondary immigration office has moved to Central Festival. Look for Chi Chang's facebook page, it shows their new location (it's in thai, but you can copy and paste it into google maps)

I want to stay 6 months in thailand
arithai12 replied to parafareno's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
You will find that most countries have similar rules for similar situations. We EU citizens are spoiled. We should look what our countries demand of a Thai citizen for a simple 2 weeks vacation as an independent traveller. OP, you want to travel around, why not insert a week to a nearby country and re-enter a second time. -
If you actually read the guidelines, you would find out that Thailand does not "require" a vaccine. Either vaccine, OR test before flying, OR random test at arrival. Happy?

A lot of honorary degrees given to people who don't have a clue about the subject. They even give Peace Nobel Prize to people who actually promote wars and conflicts. It's more a way for the University to get a moment in the news, than Bill Gates who probably will close it in a drawer and forget about it.

Same reason why we get a "deaths on the road" article every couple of days: the "journalists" on this forum need clicks. Be sure there will be a few more such "updated news" as we approach July 1st.

Schengen visa for Thai GF of a Brit
arithai12 replied to Mike Teavee's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
You as a Brit do not need a visa, provided you stay less than (3 months?). You'll need a valid passport which obviously you have if you live in TH. You have to decide which country will be your first entry (D, I, F?) and then she should obtain a visa at that Embassy. They should have requirements on their websites. As she is your gf and not wife, she will probably have to do this independently from you. If she has family officially living in D, then perhaps that would be the easiest approach. Still she should be prepared for some annoying questioning. I am not updated, but I think that at least some western Embassies do not accept applications directly but through VFS. Enjoy a nice trip. btw, France and Italy have a lot of charming places to visit, I'd cut Paris and Rome to a very minimum. -
He (cha) asked a valid question. You (J54) are right in saying that the gov't decides for their own reasons, and it has decided. But the point remains that for a normal average person it is a mystery why Thailand is still providing covid-extensions, when basically the whole world has reopened. Perhaps connected to the emergency decree?
