New Entry Requirements.
arithai12 replied to Makoshark's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Wow, I am sorry if you had such terrible experiences with the dens of corruption. I respect your choice to use an agent (which however, in some cases though not yours, is a way of continuing the corruption). But I have to say that your dim view of Immigration offices is at odds with mine. I deal with the CM IO since a dozen years, since a few years for retirement extensions based on fixed deposit. I have to say that -knock on wood- it's always gone rather smoothly, if I had to wait it's usually because of an agent jumping the line with several passports, or because of the marriage extension guys with an expecially talkative wife. Since two years I use the online booking system and I am in and out faster than I can check the news on my phone. Without genuflecting. A wai is a kind gesture and I do it without feeling like a clown. So be happy with your choice, just as I can be happy without an agent. -
Author Salman Rushdie attacked on stage at event in New York
arithai12 replied to Scott's topic in World News
I have to disagree (about brilliant). He is very scholarly and masters the language very well, but the plots of all his books are totally boring to me. Factually impossible, repetitive (always something to do with indian immigrants here and there), banging on and on about indian heritage. The SV resembles Ramayana more than a novel... two guys who survive an air crash and have god-like powers and transfer personalities. The part about the Prophet is stuck there without any purpose. If I want "brilliant fantasy/magic realism" I watch the Sixth Sense, the stuff by Rushdie is boring. Going to one of his lectures must require coffee by intravenous. Solely my opinion of course. This said, no justification for the attack - which in the end will glorify the author even more and completely defy the intended purpose. I agree with religion poisoning, but this holds true for all religions. Posters quick to wish a ban of Islam (how??) should perhaps consider the track record of Christian religion, starting with the Inquisition and the forced conversion of indigenous people all over the world. -
I was there about a month ago, for re-entry permit. Very easy and friendly , they asked me what I needed, they gave me a queue number, no one ahead, in and out in a couple of minutes. Try that at the airport office.

OP you are running two parallel threads, this is the other one. On one thread you say you want to stay in Thailand until November and you frown upon the cost of a volunteer visa, in the other one you say you want to stay years and you consider the Elite visa. You know the costs right? In one you say you have been living here with covid extensions, in the other that you are tired of border runs. People are kindly trying to advice but maybe some clarity would help.

Somebody more expert will probably answer you soon, but it is my understanding that if the girl is less than 17 and is travelling with her parents, she falls in the same scheme as the parents. If they are both fully vaccinated, she doesn't need to show proof of vaccination. Mind you this is for entry into Thailand. Airlines might have their own specific requirements.

Legal Help to Dispute a will left by my Father in Law
arithai12 replied to BAKABAS's topic in Family and Children
Couldn't you have checked with her first whether she had any intention to release them to you before starting 5 years of court fights? Anyway, a good lesson about true love, thanks. -

OP, save two days of your salary, buy the BIL another much bigger house and land, the bi**es will eat their liver knowing how much richer and happier you are then they will ever be, and you will have peace of mind. PS: curious to know which job in AUS pays you per day more than the price of a house and farming land in Isaan. -
Special Feature: What happens when a foreigner dies in Thailand???

The title should have read "What happens when a US Veteran dies in Thailand", but clicks rule. -

Somchai builds a roof for the ATM
arithai12 replied to RamenRaven's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Why not open a mocking/complaining subforum, so all the farangs who like to live in Thailand but despise everything the Thais do can let it all out. It doesn't shield from the sun... so perhaps they only wanted to shield you from rain? Tall farangs will bump their head... anyone who is tall and lived here long enough has learned that on many occasions we need to kneel down a little, not just at this ATM. Also, generations change, they get taller, I was often "sticking out" in my own country as a teenager but now when I am there I am rarely the tallest in a bus or in a shop. Even here, I do meet young Thai people over 190cm occasionally. -

Doesn’t the TAT want tourists here in Thailand?
arithai12 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
In general what you say is correct, in practice however compared to Europe, the money made by the gov't on the registration of house, car and similar is minimal. And, those are goods that you buy and enjoy, not an investment as normally understood. I think the Thai economy as a whole profits much more, per day, with a tourist than with a long-term resident. With the possible exception of health services. -

If history and culture are your only interest, then point taken Singapore IS fake. Some people have other interests as well. I am bored by it all by now, but I can imagine that Sentosa or the Zoo or the Jewel or Gardens by the Bay and the seemingly infinite (though repetitive) shopping and eating can make a 2-3 days stop for a first time visitor quite interesting. -

Flew recently there, for reasons other than tourism. While I agree that Singapore being basically a city doesn't offer as many choices as other destinations, for those who go for the first 1-2 times it can be quite entertaining. Very safe and easy in terms of transportation and language. Though it annoys me that there's a queue for everything. Also consider that SIA, unlike TG, has managed to recover their strategic hub for Europe-E.Asia-Australia travellers, and offers incentives for a brief stop-over. And indeed, Singapore is back full steam. My flight was full to the last seat (direct from/to CM). -
Cashless restaurant transactions
arithai12 replied to Searat7's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
The OP is about cashless in restaurants, not 7/11 or Makro. What does it matter to you how long another customer spends to settle their bill? Further, your rant makes no sense because the issue is in the event that only cashless is accepted. -
Do Filipinas make better wives than Thais?
arithai12 replied to Brian Nose's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
"Is it hard to make friends in Denmark?" is a clear question, generalized of course but well defined. Both you and I will agree what it means to make friends. "Do Filipinas make better wives than Thais?" is an undefined question, because most likely you and I will NOT agree on what it means to be a better wife. Now ask yourself this question (well defined): would you choose a Filipina over a Thai based on the answers in this forum, or would you use your own judgement? -
That. Or you could consider for a moment that the biggest world market is in weapons and associated activities, and to sell them you need to stir conflicts. From this perspective, things make more sense.

Especially true if you see her actually walk. How about a mandatory retirement age and a fitness certificate?

Passenger fined $1,874 after two undeclared McMuffins found in luggage
arithai12 replied to Scott's topic in World News
No different from a lot of other countries, starting with the US. Actually, it was more than two hamburgers, the article has a catchy headline but further down it says "range of undeclared risk products, including the fast food items, were detected in the passenger's rucksack". I'd say he got off lightly, you could end up detained for a false declaration to customs.
