  1. I know it's still fairly early here but most of you have managed to make complete numpties of yourselves with your idiotic comments.

As per usual, one of you mentioned 3,000 Baht and 30 tablets and so on then that became a theme. No one sees anything like a conduit, do they?

Then you put phrases in inverted commas and you can't even spell them properly!

I was the "one of you" (hope spelling correct) that mentioned the 3,000/30 and so on. Feel free to use the quote function another time to allow me the chance to defend myself.

If a numptie is a good thing I thank you for the compliment.

I thought it of interest that a story that initially sounded like the cops got a little dealer, who helped set up a sting that the stung guys turned out to be pretty petty. The seemingly small quantities are therefore relevant I believe.

This forum seems to have a chronic case of "over-sensationalizitus". wink.png

I'm guessing the miss-spelling in inverted commas comment in your last sentence refers to Inn Between's reply above. I thought it amusing. Perhaps you should also do Inn Between the courtesy of quoting.

When I see a thread going in a direction that I'm not enjoying I look at something else rather than criticize the bulk of fellow posters. Wha'd'ya think?

I've given you more of my time than I meant.

I just ignored the post, wondering why anybody would comment about the spelling of a fictitious word. I thought the absurdity of it would be obvious and hopefully amusing. I mean. how can a word be misspelled if it doesn't exist?

And as for any assumption by todlad that these 3 clowns are going to be a "conduit" that leads to the breaking of an actual cartel, that's not very realistic. These types of busts happen all the time, and the real bosses obviously don't get busted as the supply chain continues. Many even suggest that the real bosses are somewhat untouchable.

I do think there is a MAJOR misspelling here and we should be made aware

TODLAD may be should be TOADLAS

I am afraid it may be you wioth TINEA BETWEEN YOUR TEETH syndrome ..

26-year-old Noppadol, 24-year-old Anirut and 25-year-old Teerachai (surnames withheld), were arrested at the scene and their pickup, 30 amphetamine pills, 2 tubes of amphetamine, 3,000 baht in cash and their mobile phones were seized.

Read before you "open big fat mouf"!

  3. And what do we call the continual raids on night-clubs ? Not harassing tourists ?

With continual requests for passport / ID / visa docs ? Not harassing tourists ?

The system is going for the money via harassing tourists.

Does the UK, for example, harass its tourists like this ? I think not.

So the "Top Brass" wants the harassment of tourists to stop, yet are doing it themselves.

Thais no safety helmet on bikes, no problem, yet foreigners will for sure get a ticket.

And what do we call continual nonsense such as the above? Not lying?

What is nonsensical here? I think a valid argument and FACT is made here. Where in the UK USA AUSTRALIA and even bloody Russia do you get such harrassment?

    NONE. Only here

THEY WANT US TO GO and so they shall have their wishes granted

you can stay - at your loss

Pattaya28 I think you hit it fair and square on the head.

Some people here are sun affected.

  4. Almost, young buck...

    But to clarify...

People with common sense, can go out anytime they like to..

There are many tourist doing this now..

Is it a tourist fault for getting beating and robbed?? Never!!!

Just people with common sense - don't go beach road looking for ladyboys early in the morning.. Shit happens at that time..

And yes, people with common sense won't be there, in the early morning looking for a lover..

The news is the news.. Reporters report the news, good or bad.

And for Pattaya One News.. It has integrity!

They don't pick and chose to hold back on tourist beatings stories..

Those stories sells or at least keeps them in business..

So, to all you apologists for tourist!

It's never a tourist fault for getting a massive beating by Thai's!!

No matter what stupid and ignorant shit they do..

I am still confused. When I go on holidays to a place where they avidly PROMOTE tourism, VISIT THAILAND blah blah, I would feel like ESPECIALLY PATTAYA which is HEAVILY promoted as a Family Destination, that it is safe to walk the sandy beaches, look at the streets and cafes, enjoy the nightlife NO MATTER what bloody part of the scum hole you are in, and FEEL SAFE.

I do not ever see Thailand promoting itself as a CURFEW tourist destination.

So I would and will say, NO MATTER WHAT YOUR FANCY anyone should be able to walk and YES if there are ladyboys, then they should feel safe to walk among the ladyboys too, and if these people are such a problem DONT BLAME the tourists who are being asked and BEGGED to come here.

i think you are lost sir

  5. Japan has about a 30% stake in Thai industry - but that does not detract from the fact that NO-ONE is at present keen to invest in Thai industry. Of course they will keep projects going - they don't want to lose money, but they certainly aren't as keen as they were to increase their involvement. Other countries in the region are beginning to challenge Thailand for this supremacy - e.g in the motor industry. Indonesia's progress has closed the gap much more rapidly then predicted.

Until Thailand establishes a "democracy" the outside world will be very wary of increasing investments. It has already been sown that decisions made by one man with no opposition can be disastrous for an economy.

I actually thought Japanese investment in Thailand was about 68%. However, Thailand has lost it as its too late. Decisions like these companies take years and there has been years of uncertainly here thus Toyota moving Fortuner and Such to Cebu in Philippines and Honda is actually about 10% of all production here in Thailand for ASIA only not the world. I got that from Honda's own website.

Sad to say but the red roses now have wilted

  6. Yes Japanese are assisting Thailand and that is why Japanese investment DROPPED 81% last year alone and not increasing this year... refer to previous Thai Visa news.
    Different perspective:

    Jan 2016

    JAPAN FIRST, SINGAPORE SECOND

Foreign direct investment (FDI) from Japan in 2015 remained the highest in Thailand, with total investment approved from Japan valued at more than 144 billion baht for 426 projects.

Singapore came a distant second with 122 projects approved valued at 39.9 billion baht between January and November.

Being in business you often get APPROVALS in place JUST IN CASE

Yes I agree there were many approvals. Nothing occassioned though

Australia had 49million USD APPROVEED by BOI in 2013.

Do you know how many of those APPROVALS actually took up positions?

NOT ONE DIME. Not one baht

    So much for approvals.

    They all went elsewhere.

i am privy to this as was one of them. I also have a friend in the Trade Commission

  7. Past Juntas have used the "unusual wealth" tag to purge undesirable politician and political opponents.

It was quite a popular technique circa 1991.

Funny how they keep using the same old techniques. But then, they've worked before so why not.

On 23 February 1991, the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army, General Sunthorn Kongsompong, and the generals of the Chulalongkorn Military Academy class 5, Suchinda Kraprayoon, Issarapong Noonpakdi, and Kaset Rojananil, formed the National Peace Keeping Council to depose Chatichai's government in a coup d'état. They accused the elected government of massive corruption and abuse of power for its own advantage. They charged several cabinet members, including Chatichai, with "unusual wealth". At the same time, they acted in the interest of the traditional elite of the bureaucracy, military and Bangkokian business circles, whose influence the Chatichai government had sought to curtail. The coup group called the form of governance under Chatichai "parliamentary dictatorship". and alleged a moral decline.

    The more things change...

    From Wikipedia:

"General Sunthorn Kongsompong (1931–1999) was the de facto head of government of Thailand from 1991 - 1992....Following his death due to cancer, a scandal arose over the distribution of his estate. He decided to leave most of his fortune of approximately US$ 150 million to his mistress. His wife sued to have the decision declared void. However, questions arose on how a general earning a little over US$1,000 a month could accumulate such a large personal fortune."

General Prayuth. You state you want to make Thailand fair and back to THAI values.

    Is $150million fair value?

HOW can anyone is any country ever trust you or Thailand?

No wonder your country is going backwards.

Why not make this a TRUE country of love peace and happiness as you say you want?

Ok for the Bangkokians and usual military to HOLD all the wealth but no one else.

    Kill or be killed

  9. "The admiral is also in Thailand to be briefed on its political situation and the Thai military’s role in transitioning the country towards full democracy. Gen Sommai remarked to Adm Blair that he is hopeful the foundation head will help in making sure the US has a clear understanding of the circumstances prevailing in Thailand and the need for the military to ensure peace and stability"

BRAINWASHED and bored to death they really mean.

AS if he cares or is concerned.

Probably more like a FRIENDLY US visit ADVISING Thailand of what will come next if they do not toe the line.

  10. This could be a genuine "but, but Thaksin" moment. smile.png

BANGKOK, Thailand, July 10, 2013 - Honda Automobile (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (HATC), Honda's automobile production and sales joint venture company in Thailand, today held a ceremony to mark the start of construction of its new automobile production plant (to be located within the Rojana Industrial Park in Prachinburi Province). The ceremony was attended by Thailand Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and Japanese Ambassador to Thailand Shigekazu Sato as a guest of honor, as well as Takanobu Ito, President & CEO of Honda.

"but, but Thaksin" is in exile while several members of his immediate and extended family - notably Yingluck - face criminal charges.

Honda was in Thailand long before the Shinawatras' came to power. They may have initiated this particular project but it is doubtful they still play a part in it.

The fact that the plant is successfully completed and going into production isn't because of the Shinawatra clan, it is in spite of them.

I think you missed what has become sort of an inside joke on this forum.

I don't disagree with your comments. In fact I believe the Japanese, more than any other foreign investors, continue to assist development of the Thai economy.

  11. I read it 3 times! !!!

How did they confiscate money that was never paid? ??

And anyway, if they were not authorised to buy it, then the (not paid money ) should be returned immediately as thailand should never have accepted it.

When you say "......as thailand should never have accepted it." do you mean the corrupt PTP ministers who initiated the scheme, or someone else?

The disappointing thing here is this article is so poorly written that is quite confusing and ambiguous at the very least, would be nice to have names dates etc...

So we have one Chinese government company that is authorized to buy,( then that deal should have gone ahead as no problem)

Tthen three Chinese non government wanting to buy, The question is Who gives the "authority" to buy rice? The Thai government or the Chinese government? If is the Thai gov' that gives "authority" then there is a problem, BUT As we all well know the Chinese are quite practiced at fake stuff such as baby's milk, fake eggs, truffle's, fake steamed pork buns, and well just about anything you can think of so why not fake Chinese gov company's?

And if the Chinese are the ones who give the "authority" then why would Thailand gov' be accountable?

As for checks being sent then never paid,

So who is in the wrong here?

Three of the four Chinese companies have demanded the 1.8 billion baht in partial payments for the rice deals back but the payments were impounded pending the completion of this rice controversy. But information from the Bank of Thailand showed that none of the three Chinese firms had ever wired their money from China to Thailand for the rice payments.

This is how I interpret this. The Thai and Chinese Govt made deals. However some companies offered CHEQUE deposits. No money was wired.

Now the CORRUPT Chinese companies (who incidentally can teach Thailand a thing or two) who issues a deposit cheque in lieu of WIRED TRANSFERS are trying to say THAILAND DEFAULTED so Thailand must pay

Hahaha Thailand is losing its BEST friend now. Money makes lots of enemies FAST

  12. Do King Power still have the double monopoly at Suvarnabhumi? I seem to remember that as well as having the exclusive Duty Free concession, AOT also gave them the contract to handle the entire retail rental operation.

It is not called KING power for nothing. See the hidden agenda here... Someone owns a percentage of this company and wants their cut, the same as SCB every month from what I hear and read

  13. All that's really needed is a visible police presence on the beach promenade and walking street. Most attacks on the beach happen across from the soi 9 police station, yet no police walk outside. I can't figure that out. A couple cops patrolling would do wonders. It's called proactive policing. But since that's a western idea, it wont be implemented here. Thais know best.

When Thai police start getting western pay, maybe they will do it the western way.

But that "won't" happen or anytime soon, so I won't bitch how police do police business here in Thailand..

Welcome to Thailand. You must be new. IT DOES NOT MATTER how much they have. In fact many police here are very wealthy so it is noty always to do with pay

  14. So what about DUTY FREE ??? they should be 7% LOWER at least. The land of ROB THE FOREIGNERS BLIND.

the more we wroite on Tripadvisor and Booking and Agoda the more we can rekaly tell peopel GO ELSEWHERE.

thailand has taken us for granted.

The Tsunami is gone, they have their Friendship and Belgium Bridges.

they just want want want and take take take.

So many other nations deserve better.

Why is it, or is it just me, who feels Thais feel an OBLIGATION from us to get SOME MONEY for anything and everything they do?

  15. I see this in the Australian News

    http://www.theage.com.au/business/mining-and-resources/thailand-to-close-all-gold-mine-operations-including-australian-chatree-20160511-gos8wa.html

Now as an aside but in the vein of what is behind this...

I was with my Thai partner in the Bangkok Bank in CHIANG MAI and I will not disclose what branch - but one with a MAJOR hold on foreigner accounts.

the THAI staff whom we are friendly with told US and HIM IN THAI that they have received a DIRECTIVE from the government that all banks must hand over the accounts details, amount of money, where income comes from and any information on ALL FOREIGNERS with Business, investments Joint accounts, joint or individual loans

Now why are they doing this I wonder? Freeze our money? And this story against a mining operation is another part of the jigsaw that is saying GET OUT!

Thailand is not welcome for us any more and I know, being here 4 years and business and its just getting beyond reasonable.

Look at the many posts here even from Old Timers questioning now.

Something is soon going to blow.

  16. Another absurd decision.... Australia has a known record for the cleanest mining in the world...

YES! Before you knockers jump-in, I am speaking from experience.... I've worked in gold, copper, manganese, magnesium mines for 40 years all over Australia...Never a problem at any of these mines due to concerns for the environment and safety of its workers from the mining companies.

I feel very sorry for the workers that are put out of work on a whim of others surrounding Akara Resources mine, and on such a sudden dead-drop decision...A lot of these people would be benefiting from this operation with family working in Arkara on high wages which flows through the local towns and villages... Yes, do not forget the Thai Government will also be losing its cut from the mine.....in royalties and taxes...

They have advised authorities to help these workers find other employment.....To go from gold mining employment to baht 300 a day work will not go down well...

How on this Earth, will they find a thousand jobs in our current situation..Will they be pushing food carts along the street?

Instead of telling us about the know clean record of Australian mining why don't you explain the known unclean record of Thai mining?

The Australians have no problems with safety issues when operating in Thailand it seems. They even call the Thai protestors stupid although it is proven that it is creating serious health issues for them.

    http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-04-28/chatree-mine-causes-protests-in-thailand-after-poisoning-claims/7364976

I am a doctor. I have seen some of the comments on helath

They do not correlate with Mining Poisoning especially from this. There is no conclusive testing to show what else ins in the land or contamination from EATING the vegetables which can carry these so called TOXINS. Do not jump to the defence of something you and I cannot testify to. Do you know for CERTAIN the mines people are calling Thai stupid? If so they probably are correct!

I see the doctors here and chemists and people and I would not say they are an educated lot. this is clearly a set up.

    ALL FARANGS OUT!

Are you not seeing the signs?

  17. "And it was further made clear that establishments that do not comply or that make trouble for tourists, both Thai and foreign, could face closure for up to five years"

And added should read - "Unless owned operated or paid off to us the Police and then does not matter what they do"

And I see in another thread 1 milion Russians to arrive- but nothing printed in Russian and this is where they come to. hmmm

More banter and no substance I feel

  18. He should be allowed to express his opinion. He is a model. ELITE is huge and can easilly brush this off. Truth must hurt

Or maybe Khun Junta owns this franchise and OMG they say he bad... OMG

Why do people that live here risk a stupid defamation charge by posting while living here local,Just have an acquaintance outside LOS to do it for them.

I suppose because the system has not yet ground them down. I have been ground down, I've been here almost 20 years. The locals for the most part are cowed by the time they leave school. I guess this Colombian guy wanted to share his bad treatment with others. He too will be ground down in time.

My spirit is too hard to be broken. And I never intended on dying here. Business only
