I have a 2 seater Porsche sports car

The cost of maintenance isnt as bad as you might think as the parts are more expensive but the labor is so cheap.  In the west you’re paying a couple of hundred dollars or pounds per hour for labor which adds up really fast.  I recently had work done which had the car in 2 days, so several hours work, and total labor was 1600 baht

Its completely true that it’s really common to take a long time to get parts.  I had an even rarer car before that was even worse so I’m used to it, but If you absolutely depend on the car, get a different one.

Super car parking is nice but not really a big deal compared to walking a few extra meters

i find service good in most places in Thailand anyway and haven’t really noticed getting treated better because of the car.

I do find funny that every now and then a woman will look in the car and make eye contact and flick their hair as I drive by.  Haven’t yet stopped to see where that would lead though

I haven’t been stopped by police in a very long time, but my last car was also expensive so dont know whether the Porsche is deterring the police more at all.  It’s certainly not attracting them

i enjoy driving the car and no real problems

Take an illegal right turn and you might find out how fast MrBIB can run …

  2. Around the time Covid first came to note here in Thailand, our who we call 'the Family Doctor' and my wife has attended for many many years and me for at least eighteen to nineteen years ... told us quite firmly, wash your hands frequently and take Vit D.  Since that date each of us have taken one Calciferol Capsules Vitamin D 20,000units every Monday morning without fail. Get them from our local hospital for just a few baht each.

We do play a lot of golf so do see the sun quite often ....

As far as we know we haven't experience Covid first hand. Has taking Vit D helped ... I don't know but .....

  3. The eye drops that my wife uses are called Vislube.

I think quite expensive but she gets them from Chulabhorn Hospital ... much cheaper than the pharmacy ....

edit ... completely re written reply to 'cut the comments' lol

  4. Your suggesion #1 can be bad news ... I have seens several times where this insulation un-glues itself and its very noisy when it rains.

We had build a cover over our driveway and also a shed. We used a company called Hollo Roof, they have a very good produce ... it doesnt appear to allow much heat transfer AND reasonably quite when it rains. Various colours. UPVC In Bang Bua Thong, Nonthaburi if I remember correctly.

Just google for info. Sheets are not exactly cheap, but very easy to fit yourself.

edit ... I now see that a somewhat similar?  product is being produced in China .....

I'm not a resolution kinda guy but the plans for this year are to get into using my new amazing sim room during wet season (and a few times a week during dry season), to practice at the driving range a few times a week, have a lesson each week, and play rounds (as part of the yearly calendar) with my coach and lower handicap players whenever I can.

To travel around LOS and play, maybe a golf trip/Euro trip if things are more open and easy for travel before Euro winter comes around again.

To continue my yoga practice (it really supports balance, groundedness, weight sensitivity [proprioception] and easy/safe flexibility during the swing) - I recommend it to all golfers especially as you get older!

Work on the dreaded mid-handicaper problem of hitting just behind the ball (about 30% of my shots) - which results in loss of directional control - loss in distance - and hotter shots - loss of spin on green approach shots.

Improve my short game chipping and half-club shots around the green.

Settle more into my new gorgeous Mizuno 921 forged irons (just delicious clubs) and my Ping 425 drivers. Which have already seen improvements in accuracy, distance, and shaping the ball with imporved consistency.

Lastly to see by the end of this year to lower my handicap to maybe a 12.

No musts here, just steady enjoyment towards these goals and the challenges within them.

    You can do it.

  6. In reality bigger fines will just mean bigger bribes…..but yes I agree fines are far too small ….

I did an illegal right turn the other day… GPS said go right and I didn’t see the sign saying cannot… MrJ negotiateda  200thb payment with the guy in brown who sprinted across the road to stop me.  How big a fine and how many points would I have got if I had done that in the UK.

  7. Again no problem… UK to here.

Deal done and paid by bank transfer yesterday evening… not that it makes any difference but MrJ did it using my account…she has her own Wise a/c but I wanted the money to go into my BB a/c.  65,100thb… I want her to keep in practice as someday, no doubt, she will have to do the transfers on her own.

Money arrived exactly 2pm in my BB a/c showing International Transfer.

    This is actually the

4th transfer in the last 32 days… all arrived approx 2pm the next day and all showed FTT in my bank book,

  8. Soon after we moved into a house, in a village off Prachachuen Road, near the junction with Chaengwattana they decided to build a bridge over the junction.

We thought what a great idea but at busy times the queues on Prachachuen Road are long and not helped by the Government complex.

Now Cross’s mob are building a ‘kin railway and its bedlam.

I think that there are quite some merits living in say somewhere like the North east

  9. The delay is with the dealer.

Reason being that he doesn’t want to pay the tax on the vehicle and/or wants to register several cars at the same time.

MrsJ does the registration herself. Tells the dealer that she wants the ‘paperwork’ so that she can do it. Sometimes takes her two days to get the paperwork.

At the LTO you can pre reserve a number by showing them the order form for the vehicle. Numbers are released in blocks. Then you just hang on to the red plate until the number becomes available… get caught, you pay the fine…..or stick any number on and change it later…

  10. If you have a 5-Year Thai licence then you should be okay to use it in the UK. It used to be the case that you are okay for one year, not sure now how long though.

You get your IDP from the Land Transport Office. The place where you tax your car and renew your Thai Driving licence etc.

At 500thb just get one … just in case a car hire company doesn’t know the rules …You will probably have to show the same paperwork  as when you applied for your 5-year licence… by the way it’s called IDP… International Driving Permit.

    Found this … https://internationaldrivingpermit.org/country/thailand-international-driving-permit/

No, I'm talking about just mixing gasohol with water and letting the water settle out. The alcohol bonds more strongly with water than with petrol, so you end up with petrol on top and "vodka" on the bottom.

Yes, if I remember correctly that is talked about in the video and elsewhere BUT I understand you loose some octane. Have you actually used the water method and were you happy with the result. Isn’t it a lot of pissing about though.
