1. If the Thai baht runs into trouble then it is us as Westerners who will benefit !

if the gent does as you suggest he would be wise to transfer money in £ as the exchange rate will be more favorable in Thailand than in the UK.

Accessing cash via ATMs using a UK debit/credit card is expensive as most Thai Banks make a charge which is separate from the UK bank charges.

  2. OKI, I am confused and if you listen to my kids, pretty dumb, besides the point. I am an Aussie, flew into Suvarnabhumi and granted 30 day stay, which I was under the impression was visa on arrival (which everybody calls it everywhere). I now wish to extend my stay, can I go to immigration and get an extension for 1,900 baht like I did last time on a 60 day visa??

    No

You can request an extension which will be refused. Immigration will give you seven days in which to leave the country.

    Edit

    NB

Immigration may also wish to see your air tickets for the journey out and the seven day "extension " will cost 1900bht

  3. I would let them get stuffed. Tell the school master Thailand doesn't allow foreigners to do even unpaid volunteer (I known, oxymoron) work w/o allot of hassle and that he should complain to his elected officials about it and if the law was ever changed, you would be happy to help him out.

It's not only volunteer work, two guys on Phuket where recently charged for building their OWN boat, in their OWN yard...beware people, according to the law you can't even do your own painting gardening etc.

Bit bigger than a "boat" perhaps !smile.png

  4. Bicarb is suggested as a treatment for diabetes as well. Treatments like this, however effective, are not put forward by the pharmaceutical industries, ... for obvious reasons ,,, $$$

'We already know that sodium bicarbonate dramatically slows the progress of chronic kidney disease but few have followed the logical conclusion that it would also be a front line defense against diabetes. From prevention to treatment and to part of a cure, common Baking Soda is an essential tool in working with diabetic and metabolic syndromes. Obviously it does not take the place of an alkaline diet and water but bicarbonate is a front line medicine that doctors and patients can employ orally and transdermally in baths.'

Bicarb has no part to play in the day to day treatment of diabetes or kidney disease !

  5. From the Calgary Consulate

"" It is with a very heavy and sad heart that I must inform you that the Royal Thai Consulate-General is closing forever on Friday, August 30 2013. We have yet to find out why, but we have received a message from His Excellency, the Ambassador from Thailand, Udomphol Ninnad that Dr. Lacey is no longer the Honourary Consul-General in Calgary. Therefore, any future visas will have to be applied for at either Vancouver Consulate-General or the Thai Embassy in Ottawa "

Where can that information be validated?

The Calgary web site remains available and contains no messages of "Doom"

    Go and look !

  6. You will have difficulty, I suspect, in securing what you want in Thailand.

Even if you manage to obtain a prescription , which will have to come from a Thai hospital doctor, you will not be able to access anything other than a minimal supply.

I suspect if Cambodia does not import this drug it is because of its addictive nature and the likelyhood of the medication being abused.

  7. I was in a depression when working in Bangkok a few years ago (after a messy separation).

After having done a health check-up in the largest hospitals in Bangkok, I spoke with the doctor afterwards and explained that I think I'm in a depression and asked if he had some medicine for me.

Surprisingly he did not want to give me any medication, he said: "Try to activate yourself, do things you love, excercise, sleep and eat well".

I did that and finally found my way back to a normal life, even if it took a while.

Now I'm thankful for his advise, I could have been stuck with medication and perhaps adicted to it and never gotten out of the depression.

I think it's a matter of getting those bad thoughts out of your mind by forcing yourself to be active. It's NOT easy but it works!

How lucky you were to meet with a wise doctor. "Depression" is part of the normal human condition and is often self limiting.

Serious "Clinical" depression is another issue but even this can be managed without necessarily resorting to medication

  8. Hi,

Yes a photo of you teaching / working is required . < if they want >

I had my working non -b visa for 7 years and only recently they want my picture in office.

They change some rules and now I cannot get 1 year non-b visa . I get an immigration

Stamp which says "non-imm" from the immigration dept.

I have 7 expired non -b visa from the Thai embassy and latest non-imm ink stamp on my passport allowing me to stay for 1 year in Thailand .

    Sounds very odd.

Is this another case of confusing a "visa" with an Extension of Stay ?

  9. need more info ie state you are in at present, money in bank need 400,000 or 800,000 depend type of visa also if you are married to Thai

Not sure but dont think you will be able to get persion from OZ over in thailand you need to check

non o perth mulit entry need 1.5 mil to show othere states no money need to be shown

Not married to anyone and I don't intend to live in Thailand, but would like to visit and stay longer than 30days.

Also would like to buy a vehicle in my name, 800k is available.

Anyone got a non "O" from Brisbane recently?

How long do you envisage staying in Thailand ?

You would be able (I suspect) to obtain a double entry tourist visa which would give two separate 60 day entries both entries being extendable by 30 days.

Best to ask the Australian consulates direct what their requirements now are for "O" visas .

  10. Cost of extension to stay

    Marriage 40000 /month = £833(approx) = £10000 pa

    Retirement = 650000/month = £ 1354(approx) = £16250 pa

    Average UK income = £ 26000 pa

I don't work in the U.K so that average has no bearing on me.

I also don't work full time, just short temp contracts.

Nothing consistant, so monthly income would have to be manipulated. Am I then playing the system just to be with my wife ?? If I was allowed to take my wifes earnings into account then no worries, but we are not smile.png

If it was a standard rule it would be easier to accept but the fact that different consulates and different countries have such varying requirements, makes it a bit annoying and frustrating.

If relying on monthly income for an extension of stay it is up to your Embassy what they will accept as "proof" of income to enable a letter to be written.

Some Embassies will permit a sworn statement of income (no proof required) to issue a letter.

Be aware however that the immigration authorities can demand proof of income.

    Edit

    Spelling !

  11. Not sure I can explain, but maybe it is to get people to have larger sums of money in Thai Banks ?

The people that I know both Single and married opt for the Non '0' because they do not want the money in a Thai Bank earning very little..

So now you can get an extension at Immigration if Married to a Thai, with 400,000 baht in a Thai Bank for 3 months, or go to UK and have to show 800,000 + to crown it all this cannot be in a high interest account or offshore account anymore but in a normal account... looks simple they want the money or lots and lot of peoples money in a Thai Bank account..

Mostly the people I know get the Non '0' because they travel and have there money earning high interest

As those visas discussed here, is based on support of Thai wife/children, do you really think the Thai government is asking to much by requiring the applicant to have 400k in a Thai bankaccount or a monthly income of 40k?? Because that it all that is needed for a yearly extension within Thailand. After all the meaning with this extension based on marriage, is to make it easy for the family to stay together in Thailand!

If people think, that the governments requirements are unfair, why not move the family to the homecountry?

As for the high interest earned overseas, the difference between the low interest Thai savings account and the high interest, that can be had somewhere else, is about 15k THB/yearly on the 400k. Not a lot really!

The ones that should be complaining are the single retirees, who need to show 800k for a single person, whereas the farang/Thai family of 4 only need to show half of that!

No, the topic of this thread is the fact that anyone that wants a Non O marriage based visa from Hull consulate, now needs to provide evidence of 800k in a current account or 65K monthly income.

Extensions of stay are a different entity...

Fully aware of the diffence between a visa and an extension, but as I have said a few times on this thread already (post#151), no need to get a visa from your homecountry, fly in on a visa extempt and do your conversion in Thailand. Requirements still 400k/40k!25x19xthumbsup.gif.pagespeed.ic.ysn6H7pB width=25 alt=thumbsup.gif>

Hull has been known for many years as being "friendly" clearly that is no longer the case.

Those that are now complaining about the toughening of requirement for multi entry visas are probably those who can not meet the minimal financial requirements for an extension of stay .

  12. I'm sure you can arrange to have it done the next day.

Just a warning that BNH also may not like you going home alone So if they ask just lie and say someone is waiting for you. (Of course, don't leave till you are alert and OK to walk..and then do take taxi direct to your hotel and rest .) Thais get incredibly sedated very easily and stay conked out/woozy for a long time so it is hard for them to understand that farangs are not as susceptible.

Which raises a question about exactly what is being used for sedation and how an appropriate, body weight related, dose is calculated.

For relatively short procedures such as colonoscopy rapid recovery should be achievable for most regardless of ethnicity !

  13. #Last friday rang Hull, they confirmed multi entry non O must have financial paperwork included. Asked about single entry O, no problem the lady said.

#Monday duly sent my passport and supporting paperwork off by registered mail.

#Tuesday and wednesday Hull non O visa stuff is all over the internet, consulate websites also stating single non O must show 800k funds.

#Today (thursday) i finally get through on the phone, ask the lady, who confirms i will NOT be getting a single non O due to no financial paperwork. I say ok give me a double entry tourist visa, i will sort the non O out in Thailand next week. She says, fine and i will call you back this afternoon to confirm.

#Thirty minutes later, the postie rings the doorbell, sign for registered envelope, - inside is my passport WITH a single entry non O visa !!

    # <deleted> !

can you explain how this is legal you have a non o single entry but without entry stamp

    Easy !

thaiguzzi is in the UK and has received a new (as yet unused) single entry visa !coffee1.gif

  14. Seems like a good idea.

Why not try it and let us all know about the outcome

I would but I have 2 years left on my passport but maybe someone else might try before me.......smile.png

A "copy" of a passport would not be accepted from a UK address.

The whole, real, "old" passport is needed to secure a new passport.

Applicants for new UK passports residing in Thailand are, I believe, unique in their ability to submit a copy of their passport data page in application for a new passport.

Why suggest something which is doomed to failure ?

  15. That would be an extension stay for one year not a visa. An extension is not issued as a B, O, and etc. They are granted. based upon a reason for issue. Such as working, investment and etc.You would need a re-entry permit if you want to travel. Can you do a scan or take picture of it and post it.

Yes, you are right. The non imm B was issued for 3 months, then they gave me an extension of stay for one year and a re entry permit. So probably they have done the extension of stay for education purposes.

That don't put a type on visas they issue it is just a non immigrant visa.

    Are you going to school?

    Maybe...

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

The answer should have been "YES" "I am going to school" or "NO" "I am not going to school".

As Maestro suggests the whole issue is somewhat confusing.
