  1. Many years ago an official from the Nigerian Embassy stated that there were around 1,000 Nigerians in prison in Thailand, mostly on drugs charges.
  2. I've never felt the need to carry a knife in England. Maybe it's more to do with the kind of places where one hangs, and the kinds of people one hangs with? Being around drugs & gangs in London probably increases one's chances of being stabbed exponentially, but I've never felt that danger in rural Worcestershire or Herefordshire.
  3. That's very true. I lived there for 20 years, and the last 3 years I was not working. I started to get very bored and would be out drinking most days, partly because I had nothing else to do. Since leaving Thailand I've stopped smoking after 44 years (too expensive in the UK), and cut down on drinking, 60 in January.
  4. I used to get a 24 can case of Beer Chang from Villa Market a few days before. And as someone said, surely one day of not going out isn't that big a deal!
  5. The fact that very many expats in Thailand are 50 0r 60 + years old means that it would be quite a lot. But they probably would have died in the same way and same age in their home countries.
  6. I'm just surprised that it took so long for someone to do this, he is "The Ugly American". I'm only sorry for the people who were injured or died - RIP
  7. ...but not brave enough to serve in the Vietnam War.
  8. Once the conspiracy-nutjobs get going it'll be a Martian that did this.
  9. We have Brits that are just as stupid. I would make an example of such people, confiscate their passport for life on their arrival back in the UK, so that they can never again venture outside their home country. News would very quickly get around that this is what happens...
  10. He's such an odious individual, I'm just utterly shocked that it has taken so long for someone to do this.😕
  11. They should have served 4 years purely for showing everyone how utterly stupid they are.
  12. In the UK: Section 5 makes it an offence to use “threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or disorderly behaviour” or to display “any writing, sign or other visible representation which is threatening, abusive or insulting” within the hearing or sight of a person “likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress.
  13. Saw that quite a few times over the years, and that was when the ATM was about 200 meters away across the road!😔
  14. I lurve fried bread! Best done with 'ready-sliced' bread!🙂
  15. Tesco's-own ketchup tastes exactly the same as Heinz ketchup, the only difference being is that Tesco's is £1 and Heinz is £3.
  16. Lipton's teabags aren't much good anyway. I don't even see it stocked in UK supermarkets. I used to buy Tetley's when I lived in Thailand. Even though they're expensive, a box of 80 would last me 6-8 weeks.
  17. Back in the 90's Tesco 'Value' beans were 1p a tin, the sauce was a bit 'runny'😁

  19. I lived in Thailand for 20 years and ate farang food for pretty much the whole time I was there! One of the reasons that I never ate much Thai food was I had the maybe incorrect thinking that it would be way too hot for me. The sen mee nam gai was quite nice, but it came un-spiced, and I used to add just a bit of chilli to it. Also, I'm not the most adventurous or 'foodie' kind of person. I eat because I'm hungry, not for a 'culinary adventure'.😊
  20. The Big Mac Index was originally in The Economist newspaper. I think that at one time Hong Kong had the cheapest B M in the world.
  21. Heinz stuff is also way over-priced in the UK, stopped buying Heinz a few years ago, supermarket own-brands taste the same for 1/3 the price.
  22. Pre-COVID numbers, but at that time Brits were the falang nationality that made the most visits to Thailand per annum. Also, if you read about 40 Brits being arrested over the course of a year, there were another 728,632 who either hadn't done anything wrong, or hadn't been caught😁 It's a number thing, maybe not that they're more prone to criminality, just that there's lots more of 'em!?
