  1. It was Saint Margaret's policy to not support British industry and to turn Britain into a 'services-based' economy, that's well known. Part of the problem with British industry was an us & them mentality. I worked there for about 10 years.
  2. Because they're looking for a place in the sun, isn't that quite obvious?
  3. I'm aware of that.
  4. Incense smoke smells nothing like pot smoke.
  5. As I think I mentioned, the biggest single issue 'influencing' people to vote for Brexit was a perception that immigration to the UK was too high. Currently there are 10 million foreign-born people living in the UK.
  6. Sunlit uplands!?????
  7. Wind power will be good in the UK, but no amount of tech can change the amount or intensity of the sunlight we get in the UK. According to this map it's about one third of what Australia, the M E etc get. https://www.altestore.com/diy-solar-resources/solar-insolation-map-world/ Britain is in the blue/green area, not the deep red/brown area. Where I live in Worcestershire it was overcast and gloomy all day yesterday.
  8. Solar power is only marginally effective in the UK mainly because of our crappy weather. An old friend from Seattle, USA said they had similar weather, similar latitude, and a similar problem there.
  9. The gvt has announced more funding for training. Nothing about providing facilities (service areas) for drivers that don't cost £30 a night, or anything to make it a more attractive job to be in. I doubt very much that many drivers signed-up to return to a job where you always need to make sure you have a carrier bag and toilet paper with you, and the hours can be terrible. Treated like dirt. Tory Britain.
  10. https://trans.info/en/uk-government-confirms-trucker-visa-scheme-as-desperate-letter-is-sent-to-former-hgv-drivers-255930 https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2021/08/23/truc-a23.html
  11. Earlier this year there was a big to-do in the UK with lorry drivers rightly complaining about the conditions they have to endure in their job. The British gvts solution to this wasn't to look for ways to improve those conditions, it was just to make it so that lots of mainly Eastern European lorry drivers can work in the UK. Part of why many are against immigration.
  12. Funny you mention that. Why is he moaning? Because he wants more migrant labour for his shops. Mass immigration was said to be the biggest single issue in the Brexit debate.
  13. Gordon Brown spent £500 billion bailing out the fraud, corruption and greed of The City of London. That's why there was "No money left".???? To put that in context, probably ten times what the Iraq war cost.
  14. Brexit and COVID19 hit the UK at almost exactly the same time. COVID is estimated to have cost the taxpayer £400 billion, the effects of this will of course all be blamed on Brexit.
  15. A lot of North Sea oil money was used to pay the 3.5 million unemployed in the early 80's. Many people go on about how Mrs Thatcher stuck it to the unions, without recognising that this was also when British industry started to disappear. (Germany has some of the biggest and stronest unions in the world, at the same time as having some of the biggest and strongest industry in the world).
  16. It might end up the same as booze and tobacco in some countries, there will be restrictions on where one can partake? Pot smoke is very 'pungent'.
  17. Up until quite a long time ago, such events were always on free-to-air TV in the UK.
  18. After advice from UbonJoe I managed to do it without an agent.
  19. I know about the 'other options' without reading other posts after living there for 20 years????
  20. Unlike in the UK, in Thailand you can't use 'uman rights laws to stay in the country, probably forever, and probably at public expense.
  21. I remember around a month ago one of our German friends implying that it's only ever British people who do such things.
  22. Quite a few times I've applied for an e-visa online to Cambodia, takes about 10 minutes.
  23. Quote where I say that this should happen? I'm just speculating on different scenarios, 'what ifs'.
  24. I'm not saying that what ever I mention should be put into practice, just discussing this generally. If you want a non-O (or O visa) visa for Thailand I believe a criminal record check is carried out anyway. We allow millions of people into the UK without a CRC, as EU members we had to, some of them are criminals.
