  1. The BBCs weather website for Chiang mai forecasts up to 60% probability of heavy rain for next Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. I live in hope.
  2. Ballpoint's offering makes me think of Boeing and the FAA.
  3. I recall a stall in Chanklang road in Chiang ma.i about 40 years ago, which openly advertised, "Fake Rolex Watches here"
  4. Thank you PiB that is the type of information I am fishing for, but I would like more. Additional information, my grand niece is totally ignorant of mechanicals and has been conned twice. The first time, the charge warning light came on and I looked and saw that the fan belt was missing, so I sent her to have it replaced. The garage said no, you need a new alternator, so she forked out almost ฿10,000 for a new alternator. The second time , the brake warning light came on and I spotted that the brake fluid level was low. While I was away looking for brake fluid, she took the car to a garage which replaced all the discs and pads but not the fluid. I replaced the fluid for her, it was filthy and had obviously been in the system since the car was new. She has learned to trust me more than dealers and garages, hence the reason I an looking for information on a subject that I,as yet, know very little about. Please keep relevant comments coming.
  5. A Thai relative is contemplating replacing her nearly 20 years old Toyota with a new Chinese made Electric car. I have advised caution because of the lack of information on how long they last. They have only been on the road in Thailand for just over 2 years. Has any member experience of them and can advise me further?
  6. A family friend is a talented self-taught artist. She has decorated our house walls with painted flowers including the Thai National Flower, the Lotus. This set me thinking. Is there a flower for the old Lanna kingdom in the same way that the individual UK countries each have their own National Flowers?
  7. When I sat my driving test 50+ years ago. I was tested on my ability to stop the van using the gears and handbrake. Similarly, I have been teaching my Granddaughter to do the same.
  8. Four years ago I lent a woolly pullover to a Thai neighbour. I have yet to get it back.
  9. I had exactly the same thing done with a shower heater. The only reason I can think of was that it saved him 5 or 6 metres of cable.
  10. Thank you but all these shown are touch screen types which I abhor.
  11. I am looking for a basic mobile phone with buttons. I do NOT want a touch screen. I have identified Nokia and Samsung as the best candidates but I cannot find a shop in the Chiang mai area. (I am between Hang Dong and Sanpatong). Lazada accounts are playing silly buggers and insist on sending me a "verification code" which never arrives. Local knowledge please, where are the nearest shop(s) selling the cheaper range of mobile phones?
  12. Almost every day.Wife is a very good cook and knows just how to use the spices. as a result I very rarely have to complain about it being too spicy. However she does by in Khao Soi and Pad Thai.
  13. Youngest Sister-in-Law. She knows everything and is always right!
  14. Thank you for that, I suspected it was another of her concoctions. But S-i-L will not believe you. After all, you are a falang.
  15. Wife has just recovered from a bad kidney abscess. I have made a batch of chicken and leek soup with celery for her but youngest Sister-in-Law (who knows everything and is never wrong) is vehemently opposed to letting wife eat it. It will inflame her kidney again! The only thing I can find on Google is that EXCESS protein is difficult for kidneys to process. But Si-i-L insists "all doctors know this". I am very sceptical. What is the truth?
  16. I have had exactly the same experience!
  17. My late father was a teacher of mathematics. He would start each class with a few minutes of mental arithmetic. He must be birling in his grave.
  18. I know it's a bit out of your way, but going South on the Hang Dong Road from the Airport Junction, on the left, ie.,East side of the road, is Dara Cosmetics. Behind there is a pet food shop which has Royal Canin and other brands,
  19. Over the years, I have accumulated about a hundred empty glass bottles ,mainly beer, and I have been informed that there is a bottle disposal scheme in Chiang mai which will pay me a small sum for them. But, where is it? Directions please.
  20. More than 10 years ago I bought a battery hedge trimmer from Lidl. It came with 2 batteries. One fully charged battery could cut 75 metres of hedge varying from 15 to 2 metres high and was still running well. I cut my hedge 3 times a year and occasionly lent it to a neighbour for his hedge. After 3 years the batteries were still good but the blades had to be resharpened.
  21. CAT3 approaches require the crew to practise one every so often,(I cannot remember just how often), it is probable that at least one of the crew was out of currency.
  22. As I said, I keep all receipts and suspected it from the beginning. In reply to KhunLA, I did not need to speak to any " Higher up", the clerk at the payments counter denounced it immediately on sight.
