The food vender was NOT killed, only minor scratches & bruises. Read the full story properly before opening your big mouth!

You are all correct, So tired of hearing the same old story about road accidents that I failed to read the entire story.  However, it does not change what they are.  Maybe nobody died in this accident.  Maybe the next one or next week.  <deleted> monkeys should not be driving period.

  2. Will never happen, never ever in the foreseen future.  Too much money to be lost to the right people if the government approve it.  Right now, people pay to stay open late, with occasional closures and early closures throughout the year to enforce the reason why people are paying.  If the government were to allow 4am closures as "normal" within the entertainment zone, the businesses would not have to pay tea money, as this new time would be allowed by the government.  Now take into account how much is being paid, some clubs 200,000 per month, bars 3000 per month times the number of venues and that is a lot of money.  They will never allow it.

  3. When are they going to get these "MURDERERS" off the road?  This guy needs to be locked up.  He killed someone and only has to pay 400 baht?  It's 500 baht for not wearing a helmet for <deleted> sake.  I would dare say the family will not settle on this and there will be much more to the story they are not discussing such as the real compensation.  These drivers don't have accidents.  An accident is an event that happens by chance or that is without apparent or deliberate cause.  These guys cause the problem by driving recklessly and not paying attention, that is not an accident.  These drivers are "murderers".  They get behind the wheel and are a danger to everyone else on the road.

  4. Why shouldn't he be charged if he was in fact driving recklessly? Say for example, this occurred in Australia and he was found to be driving recklessly, which caused the death.  That being the case would be charged there as Im sure it would be the same in many other countries.  With so much open water, very hard to hit another vessel, unless you are in fact driving too close or playing stupid games.

Do you think Thais (Govt. or civilian) understand or care?  :whistling:

The police certainly did when they attempted to hold mine a few years ago and didn't want to give it back playing games.  As soon as I told them it belonged to the Australian Government and that if they didn't give it back I would have them involved and that I could simply apply for a new one as this one would be considered stolen, they gave it back immediately.  I think they cared. :-p

Yes but what about reality ? No passport, no bike rental, take it or leave it.

No, you can normally leave a copy of your passport (providing you show them the original) or leave another form of photo ID.  Had to hire on various occasions (while visiting other cities, car or bike in shop etc). When asked for passport, I always showed them my Thai drivers licence and they used that.  When friends come to visit, they always leave their drivers licence from their country.  Don't need to leave passport at all.

Yes they coming from all over the world to become waiters here in Phuket because its so acceptable overhere. Is this what u try to get across?Fake news mate.

No not at all and not fake news.  Many many restaurants employ wait staff who are not Thai, meaning they are foreigners.  If you think that is fake you must either have your eyes closed or be just plain stupid.

  8. Despite the ongoing headlines, illegal hotels and the corruption allegations into Phuket officials extorting money from migrant workers and targeting other foreign workers in cash shakedowns were not identified as key areas that Phuket officials needed assistance from the Royal Thai Army in resolving.

That's because there is too much money involved and it's the Phuket Officials that are at the top of the takings.  Of course they don't need help in resolving it.  That would mean they lose their tea money.

No evidence that document was used to travel, in fact very unlikely.

He used it as collateral to rent a bike and ran away when the renter discovered it was an old document.

(I don't believe bike renters have the right to hold customers passports)

correct, they aren't allowed to hold passports

Correct, nobody is allowed to hold your passport, nobody.  You do not own your passport, it remains the property of the government that issued the passport.  I was told by my embassy a few years ago that it was illegal under international law for someone to hold on to it.

  10. It's a sad story indeed and RIP to the young woman.  Having a licence to operate a jetski is an over regulation (even though yes, I have one plus a boat licence as well).  I have been riding jetski's both sit down and standup since I was 10.  I raced jetski's since the age of 18 and did so for many years.  If people rode properly, kept a safe distance and didn't play stupid games out on the water then it's virtually impossible to collide. We are taking about the open water, not a street or laneway where there are traffic is congested and travelling in both directions.  There is plenty of room to stay clear of other vessels.

Stay safe out on the water people.

I was parked at a U-turn in Bang Saray when 2 17 yr olds swerved to avoid a slow car and ran into me at 90kmsph.  The Thai police said it was my fault: crossing a major road from a minor + having a white face.

My Insurance paid for their treatment in ICU (200,000).  They asked me & my insurers for nearly 8 million compensation!  I've employed a lawyer who has got the claim down BUT my Insurers have agreed to pay 550,000 compensation.  This is despite the fact that the driver had NO Licence & one helmet between the two of them.

I've refused to pay & await my day in court.  I've also put my house up for sale - I don't feel safe any more.

The police in Thailand have no idea on who is in the wrong.  They are <deleted>$%king idiots, same as the Thai drivers.  Good on you for refusing to pay.  I would not be paying either.  All I can suggest is what my wife has said, install cameras in the car and on the bike.  They cannot lie or bullshit their way out of that.

  12. This is one story I do actually believe.  Around 7% of minivans fail roadworthiness checks - 672 too dangerous to be on the road.

I firmly believe this is most likely the truth.  Now they might look at the real reason for road accidents.  99% of Thai drivers fail in their ability to follow road rules - 50 million or so Thai people too dangerous to be on the road.

  13. Benz Racing submitted all evidence on the Lomborghini car he owned after narcotic police suspected the car was derived from money laundering in drug trafficking.  Police gained information that the luxury race car belonged to Nattapol Narkham, alias “Boy” who was earlier arrested by narcotic police.

So does he own a Lamborghini or not?  In one sentence it says on a Lamborghini car HE owned.  In the very next sentence it says the car belong to someone else.

  14. hahahah "no secret that some venues bribed officials to stay open later".  Some??? try ALL venues.  Has been like that for more than a decade.  They want early closures and want their tea money as well.  I wonder what would happen if everyone said that is fine, close at 1am but we won't be paying the police anymore?  Nothing, because people won't stand together and say it, cause everyone is scared.  Nobody has the balls especially the Thai owners.

  15. Ever since the drug king pin Xaysana Keopimpha was arrested I have been waiting for him to begin talking.  Now that he has and named 'high-so' Thais, TV celebrities etc etc, I am wondering when the rest are going to get named "government officials, police, military" etc etc.  Number 1 rule, never talk and don't mention names. You do the time and your family is looked after and the you get out, you are well taken care of because you have done time for the organisation.  However, this 'king pin' 'drug baron' or whatever you may call him, can't even stick to the most basic rules.  He will be dead within months of hitting jail.
