What a load of shit. Most fines if you go to the police station are a minimum of 200 baht. If you give the cop fineing you 100 baht they let you get on your way. This happens about 80% of the time.
Think you read what he was saying wrong. He was stating that this is what should happen, not what was being done.

The one time they (the police) could have got it right, they still manage to #$%k it up. Driving down the wrong side of the road, no plates, no papers and no helmet. Sounds like they were being fair in this instance. But then they decide to try and get more than what was on the ticket.
The one thing I have always said here is that the police don't care about anything except helmets. The truth be that if someone doesn't wear a helmet, they will only hurt or kill themselves. They are not endangering others, however this seems to be the biggest concern for the police. Now they could and I use this term loosely because it will never happen, make more money by enforcing all the other road rules. Driving my daughter to school this week I decided to see how much I would make in fines. It is a 30 min drive in both directions (1 hour total). In that hour I would have made close to 100,000 baht in 500 baht fines. This was made up from no helmets, driving on the wrong side of the road, dangerous driving, speeding, crossing double lines, overloading bikes, not giving way and failing to stop at red lights. Now that 100,000 was just me and what I saw. Some of these occurred in front of police as it was school time and they did nothing. If the entire station was out patrolling and enforcing these laws, how much would they collect in fines? Makes much more sense than just collecting helmet fines. The police could then use this for extra training, extra staff, community building all while making the roads safer and saving lives etc etc. However we will never see this in Thailand because they don't think like we do or have much business sense. The truth is even those in higher positions including those right at the top running the country are useless morons in uniforms.

They need to remove the baggage scanners on entry to the airport. There is absolutely no need for this at all. If there was, every airport in the world would do the same.

Subaru make some good quality cars. I was shocked when I saw the price of a WRX here in Thailand and even more shocked seeing these parked in the "Supercar Parking" at Central Plaza (How the hell are these supercars?). Building them here should mean a massive price drop as they will no longer be imported or subject to that tax. That has to be a positive.

That would render 17% of all civil servants jobless.....about 230,000 people......
Good. Maybe then they will learn to do the right thing and develop proper work ethics

Why the hell did he show them how he did it? He should have simply said that the padlock wasn't locked properly. Then he could have planned his next escape properly and got away for good over a border somewhere. Stupid telling them and showing them how it was done.

No mistakes made. Just sheer laziness and incompetence by Thailand's finest. How many more innocent people are sitting in Thai prisons because of lack of investigation? She should sue them for everything she can.

Well, 400 cheats x 400,000 each that's...... mmmmmm.... 160,000,000 baht over a year. Truth be told they should all be sacked and not allowed to apply again.

She has done that more than once. Maybe it wasn't intentional at first, but now with over 17,000 followers on Facebook and many photos and videos of her wearing the same things. Even made talk shows.... so I highly doubt she regrets doing it.

Check not just the advertised price of the ticket, but the cost at the end. Recently had to take the wife and daughter to Bangkok on business. Normally I would fly AirAsia as it's a short flight. When booking AirAsia was the cheapest advertised priced on both sky scanner and AirAsia website. At the end of the booking the total cost for 3 tickets, no check in baggage, no food came to around 14000 baht. For some reason there was a problem and I complete the booking online. I checked the next Airline which was Thai and more expensive. However, at the end of the booking the total cost was 10000 including checked baggage and food. There was almost 4000 baht difference and we were getting a better flight. We also got free upgrade to business class both there and back. More of the story - just because the budget airlines advertise less, doesn't mean that the end price is going to be less.

Easy fix. Have every single police officer in the country re-sit the exams, under careful watchful eye (honest members of the public) - . If they fail they are out, regardless of rank or position. The government needs to start getting tough with people in positions.

Just reading the same thing, different story heading. Been the same all week. The only thing they should be phasing out are the drivers. They are really scraping at the bottom of the barrel for solutions to the traffic/accident/mini bus problems. Need to contact the ministry with these solutions people are writing here, because lets face it, they will never read comments on Thai Visa.
-
Does anyone know the link, website or have the contact information to whoever we need to contact in order to TRY and help them out. I personally would be one to contact them and offer some of these solutions mentioned. Somebody needs to offer their services because it seems like they are in desperate need of some help. I remember they did have a site a while ago for the public to send in ideas, but I can't seem to find anything. If anyone knows the contact info or link, please send it through.

Agree with all except the tinted front windows. Having a tinted front windscreen is fine within reason and if its not too dark. It's no different to wearing sunglasses. I have been saying for the past 20 years that they should allow this in other countries. Having the sun beaming directly in your eyes is also dangerous.

"Exhausted all means to reduce accidents" - no you haven't. Maybe have the police force actually enforce the road rules instead of just standing on the side of the road watching them happen. A couple examples: there were 4 police officers directing traffic through a round-a-bout yesterday because nobody knows how to use them. Right in front of the police as traffic was proceeding round a pickup pulls out (without giving way to the cars on the right and already on the round-a-bout) which blocked the traffic. The police did nothing. Many times you see people driving on the wrong side of the road (including the police). Another incident was 2 police standing next to a pedestrian crossing near traffic lights fining people for not having helmets..... cars and bikes did not stop for pedestrians (yes it is law in Thailand) and were driving through the red lights. Again the police did nothing even though it was happening right in front of where they were standing.
“Simple fact. If there are activities, there are consequences as occurred. Many people using cars, cheap oil, good roads and cars run faster while drunk driving remains. So what laws can solve these problems besides the spirit of joint participation of every one of us. You asked how they can be solved? We in the cabinet have discussed the issue long enough,” said the prime minister, adding that he preferred the next government to tackle the problems. - no issued need to be discussed except having the authorities do their jobs properly or sack them. Don't need anymore laws to solve the issues, just need the police to enforce the road rules/law that is already in place.

Tires are too darn expensive in Thailand, another of those monopolies? Overseas I get them for less than half the price.
Regardless, if someone can't afford tires and maintenance on the vehicle, then they can't afford to drive. The same can be said for insurance. If they can't afford it, then they shouldn't be on the road.
-
The police are worse than the drivers. They should know better and are not at all doing their jobs correctly or enforcing any road rules (except helmets and drink driving). I have no respect what so ever for the shit Thai police department. I have made that very clear many times, even to their faces. The Thai are also starting to do this by publicly posting photos and videos all over the net. Respect needs to be earned not given and this scum don't deserve any of it.

2 to 3 dozen patients a day? Are they sure on those figures? Given the price of botox injections at proper clinics, she would have been making an absolute fortune. Clinics charge anywhere between 9,000 and 12,000 baht for this. Say she went on the lower side and charged 9,000 per patient x 24 patients = 216,000 baht per day. Really?

True enough stevenl .... but often the one with the money (or good insurance) pays ... it's not so clear cut in Thailand, depends how the police report is worded ... wink, wink, envelope ...
One would think that a 14 year old with no licence (therefore should not be on the road) riding a stolen bike should be at automatic fault. Then again, this is Thailand and it will all come down to money. I've never been in an accident here but my wife and friends have. First thing I always say is ask to see a licence. No licence = shouldn't be driving = automatic at fault.

Maybe it had something to do with this rent money situation from the last fair ??????? (On Monday the victim had received a phone call to get him to meet the organizer of the fair at its site on the Lat Ya road. He wanted to talk to "Chai" about his having collected rents from traders at the fair last year. He added that he may not hire him to collect the rents again this year).
-
So he thought about doing it, prepared to do but didn't do it. Then the police arrested him at the airport and now detaining him on charges of what? Until he actually does something they haven't got anything.

How will this work when you use a VPN on computers and phones or apps such as Wickr ME and Viber for private messaging on phones. There are no files connections logged or kept with any of these as far as I am aware.

How about driving tests and licenses? Too many lives lost each year on these roads.
Saying that you can't read shouldn't mean that your exempt from the test and get an automatic pass.
Sent from my SM-G930F using Thaivisa Connect mobile app
If they want to be strict then driving with out a licence should mean confiscation of the car or bike and crushing it. (Should apply to all serious traffic offences).
Subaru production in Thailand to start in 2019

I didn't say they would be. I simple stated that I was shocked when I saw the price of the WRX here in Thailand. Then I mentioned building them (Subaru) here in Thailand should make things cheaper. The WRX was just used as an example of how ridiculously expensive something mid stream can be here. You can buy a Benz or BMW cheaper.
