There are two ways to get internet on a mobile 'phone. One way is through your provider with data turned on which is available wherever you go. The other way is using your wi-fi connection which is free but only available within range of a router. Either way, I can't imagine who would want to use internet on a tiny mobile 'phone screen.

PEA found out meter is spinning backward
Muhendis replied to eddysacc's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
I am unclear on this. Are you saying that you're adding units to your PEA incoming power? If so then you are adding to your bill by however many units you are feeding in to the grid. That being the case I would suggest you switch off your feed-in option ASAP. -
Are you taking bets on 50%?

You make it sound desirably quaint. That'll be the local constabulary.

How clean are your solar panels?
Muhendis replied to 007 RED's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
A reasonable enough approach. Bear in mind that, over time, the batteries will "fade". As this happens they will charge quicker and quicker. A sure indication of loosing capacity. -
Home Solar a DIY approach
Muhendis replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
You may be familiar with the work of Hugh Piggott in Scoraig. He designed an built an excellent DIY wind turbine which has been copied around the world and put to good use in remote villages. There are loads of solar installations which you may be unaware of in Thailand. Many of them are in the order of Megawatts and floating on lakes. https://www.euronews.com/green/2022/03/11/huge-floating-solar-farm-sets-thailand-on-track-towards-carbon-neutrality I know. It's not roof top stuff in the Kw order of magnitude. Most villagers can barely afford a few panels to irrigate their crops but it's slowly catching on. -

Home Solar a DIY approach
Muhendis replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
You have a few more watts on the roof than me but we are on the same size inverter and mine does everything I need except run my rice mill. I should say that my house was designed with insulation from the heat in mind, so I am justifiably frugal with the air con. Saucepan heat comes from a gas cylinder and there is neither electric kettle nor coffee machine. Also my wife rarely bothers with the ironing . I think that's a woman thing and not a nationality attribute. So 8kw is plenty but 5kw is not. -
Home Solar a DIY approach

That depends on how many gadgets he's got running at the same time. Granted there will be insufficient power for a decent instant heated shower so maybe he has other plans for that. I notice he has a tall water tower so the pump to fill it is going to be quite a big one. Likewise kitchen bits 'n pieces. He may have plans to run another inverter in parallel later. As far as the battery capacity goes, I also feel it is currently insufficient. I am not a particularly big time consumer but I find that my 36kwh (when new) only just gets me through two overcast days (plus one overcast night). Maybe he plans for just one night on battery power. -
Thai Grab driver waiting for food order tickles the ivories
Muhendis replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News
Having just played the vid. I take back 50% of awful. The piano sounds better than I thought it would, but it still needs tuning. Good for the Grab guy. -

Not been played for 25 years.? Probably never been tuned then. Must have sounded awful. -
Getting a new passport requires a trip to VFS in Bangkok.... Twice. By using an agent like Key Visa, you can get a new passport without leaving Phuket or wherever you are. Words like "passport" and "agent" are stronger key words than Phuket especially when such agent as Key Visa deals with passport renewal for the whole of Thailand.

Key Visa did mine for me but part way through Darren, the top man there, died which left me with a small problem of communication. I don't know if the company is still doing anything but it's worth a try. The girls working there all know what to do.

I am now the proud owner of another Thai driving license. The online training certificate was fine and the whole thing lasted about 30 minutes. There was the usual traffic lights identifier and brake pedal response test. What was missing was the depth of field string pulling test and the peripheral vision test. Cost of license was 505 Baht.

Buriram IO 90 day report question
Muhendis replied to MJCM's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
All this rubbish talk of sending your passport to Imm. Whatever next. Read UbonJoe above. Send copies only Dunno what happens after that but at least you'll have done what is required and maybe the IO will be deliriously happy. -
Buriram IO 90 day report question

I heard once that IO's are pretty sympathetic with regards to medical reasons for delays. How about you keep all your hospital records etc. and use them to mitigate against punishment for your late report. -
Solar power, can it be done DIY?
Muhendis replied to Sophon's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
That's a very sturdy looking fabrication you have there. Like it. What number on the Richter scale is it good for? -
Buriram IO 90 day report question
Muhendis replied to MJCM's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
The consensus seems to be that:- Yes it can be done on line but there is a total lack of confidence in immigration doing what is required in a timely manner if at all. -
Buriram IO 90 day report question
Muhendis replied to MJCM's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Agreed. I did my last 90 day report on line to Buriram immigration office. You need to do it at earliest possible time 'cause they are not into high speed with such things. -
That's the right thing to do but notice the drawing in post #3. The membrane is actually buried below the sand and screed top coat. This is why I mentioned to keep an eye on hole depth if mounting anything on the roof. My solar is on a flat and leaky car port roof. It's leaky because my (village) builder had not a clue. It's ok'ish now but I wish I had been around when it was done............

Agreed. The little cynic inside me sees this as a money making scheme with scant regard for the end user benefits. The aim is to tell the gullible how green they are being if taking out a loan. Oh and by the way you can incidentally get solar power but that's really a secondary issue. I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.
