This scheme is not a good advertisement for tourism. Best to reinstate proper quarantine until vaccination programme completed covering entire country.
-
Better to wait few weeks to see actual number of arrivals. Meanwhile every effort should be made to expedite availability of vaccines over the whole country.

I'm waiting for the big opening when vaccinated tourists can flow in with no quarantine, hopefully their personal vaccination will stop Delta, either way you can still catch and spread it, so your going to be locked down into quarantine when you return, and returning may be more tricky if your carrying delta.
Thai newspaper said this morning that the dominant strain of corona in LOS will be Delta.
Then if you can tune into Aussie news just look at how serious they are taking Delta, the whole country now almost in complete lockdown over an outbreak that started from one person in Bondi, now spreading across states, so what does Thailand think? people will flock in with Delta being the dominant strain, uncontrolled , hospitals-- choked , what's??? your covid cover going to do about that, no beds available, sorry go to your hotel and stay there, no drinking no GF no wife, just go to your hotel. careful not to spread Delta around on the way, that's if you have it because we won't test you if the hospitals are full--- good luck.
If your on a beech front , no playing in the sandbox, no refund on plastic spades and buckets.
Pity Australia did not take vaccination programme seriously same as Thailand that's why they are in trouble now

I expect since last year actual lost jobs is far higher when taking into account the unregistered workers it is truly a tragedy which unlikely to get better until tourists can return without restrictions the Phuket Sandbox restrictions will not encourage many visitors probably mostly those wanting to enter Thailand without quarantining in Bangkok but it is still very expensive and inconvenient and without quarantine in name only.

Singapore and Qatar Airlines flying into Samui. Very interesting have they Chartered suitable plans from Bangkok Airways?

No point opening for Tourism until entire population vaccinated. The problem still remains shortage of vaccines whether or not Chinese so try and expedite procurement of any covid vaccines.

What a load if nonsense. Do you really want tourists from UK where D strain raging. Airlines coming to Phuket for the first time have they undergone training and safety exercises to use Airport? How on earth can TAT calculate how much tourists will spend especially when most venues are closed. Dream on and get real.

Presume command centre will be backed up by Thai Rangers on Horse back ready to herd any tourists to nearest field hospital and deportation after being subject to hefty medical bills.
Good Luck Tourists will be like taking a trip to the Moon or maybe better to stay in your home country and enjoy the summer weather

Is there a Mafia in Phuket? This is very worrying.

Probably true this is customary with some hotels in Phuket. Best to avoid Thailand until all restrictions lifted.

Congratulations would be a good idea to publish details of the trials and conclusions as this will be really good news.

It is my understanding that the Pfizer vaccine is targeted for Thai children. Perhaps this is due to it being approved for youth but perhaps us high risk older folk could use it too. Can someone explain why the Pfizer will be given to the low risk group. I am happy for the kids but jealous for sure.
So far as I am aware no vaccine has been approved for use with Children. The Pfizer vaccine is being used in Europe and USA for adults since vaccination begun some months ago

The Phuket Sandbox is doomed with so many restrictions and high cost of Air Fares the Pandemic is raging in Thailand so infections are likly to increase but don't worry the project can be cancelled without notice leaving tourists stranded What a good idea all about money for nothing it is time to learn there are no free rides anymore if you want money you must earn it

Where are the Tourists going to come from? With these restrictions really not worth the risk of very expensive hospitalization even with Covid insurance which probably will not pay if get false covid test results Good Luck.

Is the viras under control in Thailand? If not should Phuket Sand Box scheme be delayed by a few weeks?

Has the J and J vaccine been approved in Thailand?

Fully agree another long holiday could be a disaster after surge of infections that now occurring after Songkran . Surely better to expedite vaccine programme as it appears vaccines presently give good protection and then open up cautiously

Mass vaccination is the only solution to opening for International Tourism. Premature opening before vaccination could be a disaster and delay opening until well into next year. At least it is now accepted that many unregistered Thai's previously employed in tourism industry are suffering severe hardship without any help from the Government

The prove of the pudding will be in the eating. Hope they have some money left after paying for the air fares, hotels, tests, internet roaming charges etc which very very expensive

The only way to justify any relaxing of restrictions or opening for Tourism International or Domestic is to wait until vaccination of Nation completed especially now the Indian variate is circulating the most infectious variant so far.

Must realise cost and resrictions are a big factor the sandbox is really 14 days quarantine and very expensive. Thailand is not really an attractive destination for holidays in the monsoon season when for Europeans there are good destinations much closer to home. Let's also see what happens in Bali when reopened.

Let's see how many tourists come to Phuket. My personal opinion is very few as the costs involved are tremendous the airfares
alone have tripuled with the airlines that I checked then the hotels I suspect their prices will have also increased then the App data in Thailand using foreign SIMS is far more than for Thai's but most phones are locked to foreign networks. then the monsoon really not the best time to visit Thailand. Obviously any one wanting to enter Thailand for personal family matters or business Phuket model is far more attractive than quarantine in Bangkok but there again the actual costs are far greater
-
He is probably right except Phuket
Sandbox is 14 days quarantine provided Thai's living or allowed to enter the Island have been vaccinated Covid is going to be with us for the foreseeable future and will mutate. Similar schemes are also being considered by Bali and other destinations. The Phuket Sandbox is unlukely to attract many genuine foreign tourists it is just a very expensive alternative to quarantine in Bangkok but without being strictly confined to a hotel room. The so called tracking app is only viable to those who have Thai SIM Cards otherwise the roaming charges for most if they have foreign Sims will be excessive.
-
This is just an alternative quarantine but very very expensive starting with the air fares which are extortionate but if you have the money better than being confined to hotel room in Bangkok.

Well really not the time to open for tourism. The borders should be strictly controlled and every effort made to obtain more vaccines
