Not always, i had to get my ear vacuumed out as i had impacted wax on the eardrum causing issues, now i use a camera thing to reduce wax buildup, the ENT doc said keep water out of your ears as it isn't clean in Thailand, i put ear plugs in when showering

Easy to clean, i use Vixol Oxy every few months but vinegar would also work. Need to wash the inside sponge filter thing also -
