  1. In a way it's a pity that such a comprehensive Migration Report was based on the year 2019. While graphs of the dramatic drop-off of arrivals midyear make for interesting viewing it does despoil the true statistics. The next one may restore some equilibrium. I just noticed something similar was posted above. Apologies.
  2. Did you read the report? Before reading the report can I guess migrant workers from neighboring countries would be the largest group?
  3. By definition, those living here don't have a tourist or other temporary visa. The figure given has to be taken from PR and non-imm visa arrivals and extensions.
  4. That time machine is turned on again. It would be nice if it also provided the numbers that were drawn on 1 march!
  5. Noone deserves death at such a young age. However, the victim, while young and innocent looking, was a member of a rival drug gang and had himself been implicated in several violent crimes. He was just one of about 5 murders of young people in this cesspool town.
  6. I now live in Issan where the cultural practice pf dumping kids on the grandparents to raise, while the parents enjoy a quasi-single life in the city, is still very prevalent. Mostly, the GPs also work, usually in the fields, so have little time to coddle kids. The smart phone and iPad are used extensively to keep the kids occupied. Despite the usual austere village lifestyle, all, from about 2 or 3yo up, have various devices constantly playing games, cartoons, etc. I often find their model is better than mine and feel I should upgrade to stay ahead. Annoyingly, various kids are often dumped in the falang house where they take over and expertly manipulate the big living room tv at full volume. I lost one large screen tv when small kids whacked cartoon characters with sticks. Edit: As I posted this some kid just walked in and turned on the tv!
  7. I'm from Perth, retired in Issan on a farm I bought, but obviously in the wife's name. Haven't been booted out yet, but it would hurt her more than me as I have a couple of permanent income streams which fund daily living here. She would struggle without that coming in. I could live comfortably elsewhere in Thailand in a rental with a hired maid/carer if it ever came to that. I sold my house in Australia as I do not plan to ever return there. I am Centrelink independent; my income would probably preclude qualifying for any OAP. Certainly not worth travelling there to apply. I haven't checked rental prices in the Perth for years, but at your age, would advise to rent rather than buy. Your cash reserves can be better utilized, as a poster above suggested. I presume your kids don't live in the central city, so the Murray St rental mentioned above is probably unrealistic as a guide. Perth is reputably the longest city in the world so you may end up living a long way from the city itself and have little reason to go there. (cricket?)
  8. The OPs rank is that of Star member. Click on the blue and purple star shaped thing. I'm unsure why the words Advanced Member are written underneath.
  9. I found the suggestion that I was soliciting for trump to be deeply insulting. I have previously thought more highly of your posts on this forum.
  10. Not soliciting (thanks for the insult!), just pointing out a very newsworthy facet of this topic and the depths to which this man and his crazy disciples will sink. Censorship by hiding relevant news behind rules has become very common everywhere.
  11. Here's an opportunity for the Trumpers here to put their money where their mouth is. Trump's Go Fund Me. Fundraiser by Elena Cardone : Stand with Trump; Fund the $355M Unjust Judgment (gofundme.com)
  12. He doesn't have the cash so what's next, bankruptcy? Or perhaps get Jarod to head to Saudi with his hand out to deliver a promise to look after them when president again.
  13. The LP I had was beef pepper. South Australia - the home of the Pie Floater. Yuck!
  14. My notification came a short time ago, I did it immediately, took a couple of minutes, now pending. Never had a problem with this new online version.
  15. Had one of these recently, recommended. LADY PIE Bakery and Restaurant, Phuket, Thailand
  16. The GG is the representative of the British monarch in Australia and apart from signing paperwork to affirm ministers, has a ceremonial and community role only. He can only express personal opinions as he has no input into political policy. The GGs are selected by the PM of the day for a set period and are usually retired military officers (A conservative PM tried to appoint a religious leader into the job once with predictable results) Just a little overseas jaunt for this guy and wife.
  17. For the many here having trouble understanding. This dam is a scenic tourist attraction where people can stay on floating raft houses and kayak in the waters. The OP specifically states that is what happened here. However, this Brit failed to wear a life vest and appears to have been unable to swim to safety when they capsized. It's unlikely waves or waterfalls contributed to the mishap. **** Off topic comments edited out ****
  18. His kids are 3 and 9, so the newborn baby photo is probably to elicit sympathy. A 28yo with a 9yo kid indicates he's often made bad decisions in his life.
  19. Even if that scheme was ever put in place, and worked as advertised, I wouldn't think it would pay for an air ambulance back to home country which is where most of that money is required.
  20. From the link: "In a poignant plea, a close friend revealed that Simmons’ mother is contemplating the drastic measure of selling her home to alleviate the crushing burden of medical bills."
  21. I've also checked that site many times, but there are others with different, lower figures well below the 70m number. Which is the most accurate?
  22. Temporary departures don't affect population statistics. Thailand conducts a census only once a decade and it is just one of the tools used to estimate the population. Thailand has an ID card system for all citizens, and a house registration book,Tabien Baan, used for residents to register for district voting and health care services. Also, falling birth rates per 1000 are easy to count. Aging populations and death rates are all part of the process of estimating a population. Demography is not an exact science even with a very recent census, but it can certainly predict trends with reasonable accuracy.
