  1. There's nothing wrong with not knowing of something or someone. However, declaring that lack of knowledge as if it means the subject is not worth knowing about, is pathetic. When I see something here that I've never previously heard of, I google it, improve my knowledge and then make judgement.
  2. What's the set age for law breakers to retire and become harmless? I met a guy once who committed his 4th murder in his 70s.
  3. I had a similar terrible experience over the weekend. 3BB went down for 4 or 5 hours. I had no contact with the outside world and couldn't even get out the results of the footy finals! I was a ball of sweat when I was finally able to get reconnected.
  4. This is an American vid, but it shows an alternative to double taxing pensioners
  5. Then just change the wording in the reason for extension on the TM7 to Retirement instead of Marriage.

It appears my future as a tv weather forecaster has sunk to a new Low. I will have to return to my erstwhile career of providing content for the sad and confused. I will still advise Isan residents to keep the plastic raincoat handy over the next few days.
  7. So, if you were a mind reader and that's the animal the killer had in mind when he killed the other guy then we were both wrong. It's an omnivore. Here the descriptive states it's a carnivore: Asian Palm Civet - Facts, Diet, Habitat & Pictures on Animalia.bio
  8. Civets, like all of the cat family, are carnivores. We have some rubber tappers living in a shack close by and they frequently shoot guns at any time of the day. Reputably they use yaba.

    Above should read NW.
  10. Of course there are some minor differences with an electronic visa, although I consider your statement that one is reviewed by an Embassy and the other not, to be inaccurate. The computer programs for both belong to the Thai government and will be similar. They don't go across someone's desk to receive a stamp of approval; they are computer processed. Obviously, there isn't a fee with this one. I can assure you all countries' electronic visas involve comparison with Alert Lists. That's a major part of the processing.

Note: Other tracking models have it continuing in a NE direction. Either way we could be in for a drenching in parts of Thailand.

J just noticed the projected path of Typhoon Yagi, now going through Hanoi after devastating Hainan. Ventusky has predicted it will veer south towards Udon. Could be in for some more rain across Isaan. Ventusky - Wind, Rain and Temperature Maps Ventusky - Wind, Rain and Temperature Maps (Monday)
  13. I have difficulty in seeing a difference between this ETA and an online visa. When you have to apply for authorization before travel, it seems to be more akin to a visa rather than an exemption. Personally, as a fully (highly) paid up retiree on a long-term visa, I am happy there are to be more restrictions on those who use tourism procedures for residency.
  14. An isolated and exclusive part of Phuket well away from where the average Chinese tourist would be found. The story of finding such on the property previously would have some believing the tale to be manufactured as part of the defense. I would also be asking about outcomes with the handguns he held that were apparently registered to him despite being prohibited.
  15. Many countries have special visas for people whose original visa was cancelled, or expired, but are required to stay in country to face courts. In Australia the category is called a "criminal Justice" visa. A version can also apply to witnesses in a case. Generally, they expire upon finalization of the case. The holders don't become overstayed awaiting trial. I don't know how it works in Thailand. With the not guilty verdict I would expect he could apply for a new extension of stay. My question would be what happened with the witness sitting next to the complainant? Did she testify, if so, I would have thought the verdict would be different. While the kick wasn't filmed, I did hear the thud on the video. Also, he admitted his foot made contact. I would have thought his actions and words before, during and after the incident, with a witness' testimony, would have been sufficient for a different outcome.
  16. Is the elevation restriction for development in Phuket still in effect?
  17. For context, in some countries harbouring an overstayer is an offence under Migration law. MIGRATION ACT 1958 - SECT 233E Concealing and harbouring non - citizens etc. (austlii.edu.au) I doubt there is such a penalty in the legislation here.
  18. Of course, this is the strictly legal interpretation and commercial businesses should comply. However, practically, it would be ludicrous for everyone who has a visitor staying in their house overnight or for a short stay, to lodge a TM30. I have frequent overseas visitors staying with me and while aware of the legal obligation, never consider lodging one (my wife would cop the fine anyway and could genuinely plead ignorance of this law).
  19. You think your idea of imprisoning all tourists from one country for 24 hours on arrival was so good it bears repeating? Perhaps a better idea, to avoid the wrath of the UN and most world governments, would be to simply deny visas to citizens of that country. The storm of indignation wouldn't be quite so loud. Or, perhaps just put individuals who previously committed offences in Thailand on something like a Blacklist?
  20. Also in Loei, we have 4 fridges, several TVs, electronics, fans, lights, microwave, multiple battery chargers, etc., etc. AC never on. Monthly bills always around 1800 baht. I don't see how a couple of fridges and occasional lights would add up to what you've been paying. I would suggest someone has been living in your "empty" house or someone nearby stealing the power. Many here are advising to check meters, etc. but I see you state it is now disconnected, so impossible to do. Perhaps your enquiries should be directed closer to home.
  21. Unless there's more to the story than mentioned it seems like a massive over reaction for what would be a Customs offence of avoiding duty, Confiscation of the goods would probably have been sufficient punishment. Meanwhile the Chinese Mafia continue to...............
  22. I'm sure there are hundreds of Americans who could beat his record.
  23. I've heard they still do in some places.
