  1. Temporary departures don't affect population statistics. Thailand conducts a census only once a decade and it is just one of the tools used to estimate the population. Thailand has an ID card system for all citizens, and a house registration book,Tabien Baan, used for residents to register for district voting and health care services. Also, falling birth rates per 1000 are easy to count. Aging populations and death rates are all part of the process of estimating a population. Demography is not an exact science even with a very recent census, but it can certainly predict trends with reasonable accuracy.
  2. I've been living in Isaan, on a property that is part of a smallish village, for about 3 1/2 years. The death rate here in that time has been shocking (includes both my wife's parents), mainly because of the high age of most of the residents. There are few non-pensioners and even less children living locally. However, a disturbing number of the former have also died from illnesses related to cancer and liver disease, and in accidents on roads and farms. Just a couple of weeks ago someone was skittled on his bicycle on the highway. There are more empty houses in the village now than when we arrived here. Whether deaths were attributed to covid or not, they all counted towards the death toll.
  3. No.... I stated my blood readings were stable and you decided to use parenthesis and a double question mark to highlight a version of that word. That can only be an expression of disbelief. It would be much more reasonable for you to 'back down', rather than justify your misuse of punctuation in this manner, and then decide you know my state of mind. My reply to you, after learning your readings greatly fluctuated, was to not follow my self-monitoring advice, but stay with a doctor. An attempt to assist, not be berated. I no longer have an interest in discussions with you about medications.
  4. Obviously, I don't test as often as someone with their own test kit. I'm a little confused as to why you highlighted the word stability, nor why the double question mark. It seems you are trying to discredit me by suggesting I'm lying. I don't engage with people who feel the need to go this route in the Health and Medicine forum. I truthfully relate my own medical knowledge and experience in the hope it helps others with similar ailments.
  5. OK. Thanks. Firstly, what is your age? It relates to advice on visas. You state this hasn't happened to you in 20 years and you have a long-term Thai GF. Have you been residing in Thailand for that period, or if not, how much time have you spent here in the last several years? If you are residing in Thailand, why do you border bounce and not obtain a long-term visa - retirement, marriage, elite? Do you have the funds to meet the conditions? If not, how do you fund your stay here? Do you work illegally? If you don't reside here, but are just a tourist, why do you have a condo, a gf, and all your belongings, including funds (bank account?) in Thailand? I note your first ever post on this forum was at 0616 yesterday and the last (of 10) was at 0805 yesterday. Does this mean you were refused entry at Nam?
  6. I once saw the girl in a hospital blood clinic use a small test kit to get my reading and write the figure on a form while I was still waiting for the bit of tape for my arm. I knew the result immediately, but still had to see the doc to be told officially and pay for the visit.
  7. A cardiologist told me that high BP over a long period caused my enlarged heart.
  8. That a big range swing, mine is much more stable. It has never gone outside the parameters by more than a few fractions. I wouldn't suggest you follow my plan, you should definitely remain under the care of your doctor.
  9. Asking for a friend. When he moved into his rental there was an almost full roll of toilet paper in the bathroom. It's disappeared, now there is just a small cardboard roll thingie on the hanging device which is totally unsuitable for the purpose. Who's responsible for a replacement, my friend or the owner of the building? If he is expected to do it himself who will pay for it, and is there some sort of manual available to explain the procedure?
  10. I've also been on Warfarin for years after a DVT event. I looked for an alternative a couple of years ago, but all others had something unfavorable in comparison such as price, side effects or monitoring. I don't have any problems with warfarin and largely monitor myself using cheap clinical INR testing (2-3 range). I make slight adjustments to dosage if I creep outside that range. I try to avoid paying fees to doctors when they are at the stage of just monitoring blood levels. I'm able to check, and plan when there's a need for a doctor, with my creatinine, uric acid, INR and ferritin levels.
  11. I can't understand why anyone would openly flaunt immigration law, in a country which is not a signatory to the Refugee Convention, by working, or demonstrating against their own oppressive government! Particularly as they are travelling on the oppressor's passport, and the country in which they choose to work is openly friendly with the other. Legally a person can only be deported to their country of citizenship as per their entry passport. A rogue state might ignore that fact. The two non-Russians in the band are luckier. I remember a few years back a large group of Uighurs tried to transit Thailand to get to Europe. They were sent either back to China or to Turkey depending on the PP held. Human rights weren't a consideration. A bomb later exploded in Bangkok attributed to this ethnic group.
  12. I would like to know why the poster felt the need to approach the RD this year when they've already stated 2023 imported income is not taxable. That may have been the reason they gave a negative response.
  13. Like spiders, I consider snakes harmless as long as you see them first. I only ever saw one python (a carpet snake) in 60 years living in Australia, but here in Thailand the number is more like 6. Several were in Phuket and 3 here in Isaan - 2 of which were raiding the wife's chooks. The Burmese one was relocated, the reticulated python fell fowl (!) of the local farmers and their antiquated long guns. The locals are scared of them and kill them whenever possible, despite legal protections.
  14. I always use words like "could" instead of "will" to indicate grey (gray) opinion.
  15. I've also considered this action. A couple of thoughts: As the current extension was granted under the 800k method a picky IO could insist that you meet the rules of cash in the bank for the year until the next extension. Bringing in 65, 000 a month could place you in a high tax bracket in 2025
  16. To extract you from custody and drive you to the border is very pricey. (I would think)

  18. It should be called The Dunning Kruger-Trump effect.
  19. "Scientists have described base jumping as the most extreme of extreme sports. It involves parachuting from fixed structures including buildings, antennae, bridges and cliffs. By one calculation, there’s a 50 times increased risk of dying compared to skydiving." Base jumping: what we can learn from some of the world’s most extreme athletes about overcoming doubt (theconversation.com) An interesting link examining the minds of people who have a need to take these extreme risks that the vast majority of us can't understand.
  20. From the YT video, and comments there, it seems his drogue parachute was incorrectly strapped behind the harness preventing the main chute from opening properly. His actions just before jumping seemed careless to me, he was more concerned about a flashing light on his helmet than getting lines sorted.
  21. For the old timers here, who are not far from the grave. There's still smashing music to be had from deep underground.
  22. It's a local name not that of the species. An Asiatic Black bear probably attacked a buffalo somewhere. Thais have their own terminology for almost everything. It doesn't define a separate species. Q.E.D.
  23. The reports on the damage to his arm vary depending on the media outlet. A theory I found plausible suggests that his arm is damaged from the elbow down, but the part he cut off is where the bear clamped on, possibly a chunk of muscle from the forearm. This was later found shredded in the cage. This is just my conclusion from reading several reports and viewing the pic in the OP.
  24. Rubbish! There's no such species. It was an Asiatic Black Bear named Sampson. (No, Sampson isn't a species either)
