I keep getting a tickling sensation from catarrh at the back of my throat which gives me a tickly cough.

Is there anyway to stop this?

Makhampom. Made by Abhibhubehr Herbal hospital. My wife buys it at the local chemist.

Fault and cause aside, the one thing you can be assured of is that in bars frequented by large numbers of young Thais, the Thais are likely armed (mainly with knives but increasingly with guns). And if they aren't armed  in the moment they will be soon once an argument breakouts. Foolishly is to argue, particularly, if you are a foreigner. Step back is the only and best advise.

I learnt many years ago. 'Discretion is the better part of valour.' Walk away.

We have a Thai laundry woman in our building, she is maybe 50 and she likes to criticize everybody.

It seems that she talked bad about another Thai woman, who used to live in the same building, on social media.

And then that criticized woman came to here to the laundry shop and slapped the laundry woman. I have no idea how little or hard that slap was.

After that the laundry woman was lying on the floor in front of her shop complaining about the other woman and unfair life and all that.

Then it seems she called the police and an ambulance. I saw her sitting with the police officer crying and complaining.

I am interested what possible consequences might come from this.

Until now I saw a couple of Thai fights but it seems after fighting each other nobody told the police.

But in this case she talked to the police and she called an ambulance.

I don't think she was hurt seriously. She could sit and talk.

    What could happen?

A fine? Jail sentence? And would that be a long private court case or a criminal offence or what?

I "know" the laundry lady and possibly I also "know" the woman who slapped her. But I have no personal contact with them. I am just an observer.

    Any ideas?

If possible, please post only legal information which you are sure about, no speculation or information what would happen in another country.

    'Slapped' with a Bt100 fine most probably.

.....more to the point, try relaxation response and yogic breathing. The other stuff like detachment and patience work is accomplished by lowering your ego. Meditation is a very roundabout approach to that.

Try Buddhist psychology instead. Two books: Why Buddhism is True and Buddha Brain will lay out the logic of why your ego is just a pile of nonsense. Then it would be a very slow, water on a rock process to be a little lighter.

Then why do Thai practitioners of their version of Buddhism seem to have inflated egos and to lose face is something unbearable?

Well if there's any truth to him getting hit with the shovel all bets are off. When somebody resorts to extreme measures like that, it's survival of the fittest. It will be a question of him being able to prove it, if it is indeed the truth.

    Maybe

    dead fellow used the shovel

Maybe he was in the process of using the shovel to clear up dog <deleted>. I have a similar problem outside my house with people walking their dogs and not clearing their dog's <deleted>.  But then that used to be the norm in the UK years ago before their was a fine for not clearing up after their dogs. It will come in Thailand. Not in my lifetime or even my childrens, methinks. T.I.T.

Just walk out the hospital when you feel better and fly home to get proper treatment. Tell em to stick the 400K!

legally he doesn’t have to pay a penny.

despite what anyone says, it is a hospitals duty to accept any and all emergency cases without question. Im not saying to walk out without paying is morally right, thats another story, but legally he doesn’t have to pay a cent.

Walk out without his passport? It's d*******s like him that make it bad for expats in Thailand. This are the sort of tosh that the British tabloids love to feed the reading sheep. And the sheep believe it and bleat.

A Thai friend who is a shooting enthusiast looked into this when Anutin first announced he planned to do this several weeks ago. He believes Anutin can only stop provincial governors from issuing Por 12 carry licences that are valid in their own provinces only. The police chief approves the Bkk and nationwide permits and the Council of State has already ruled that the Interior Ministry has no right to interfere with this when the Interior Ministry under the Yingluck government tried to block the issue of carry permits approved by the police chief.

There are only around 1,000 nationwide carry permits and nearly all are issued to MPs, senators, judges and the like with less than around 50 in the hands of very wealthy businessmen.  The MPs, senators and privy councillors will quickly make a big fuss, if their annual permits cannot be renewed. I don't think provincial carry permits have been issued in recent years.  Certainly none for Bkk only and I don't think the elected governor has that authority anyway.  I believe provincial governors have not wanted to take the risk of issuing permits in case a crime is committed by some one approved by then and there is high risk provincial permit holders will violate their licences and carry their guns over provincial boundaries.  If someone thinks he is important enough to get one, he can be told to apply to the national police chief for a more useful nationwide permit.  Imagine having a permit for Samut Prakan or somewhere and you gun becomes illegal each time you cross a provincial boundary.

At first he said he would change the law to discontinue carry permits completely but asking MPs, who are probably the largest single group of civilian legal concealed gun carriers, to vote for it would be like asking turkeys to vote for Christmas.

It is notable that these news from the Interior Ministry was not accompanied by any statistics regarding the number of carry permits in issue and the types of people they are issued to.  Without any analysis of that type it sounds as if significant steps are being taken to reduce the number of guns legally on the streets but the reality is that it will take a very small number of guns out of the hands of a few senior members of society, assuming they don't just continue to carry their guns anyway in the knowledge that no cop would dare arrest them.

Meanwhile a large number of the estimated 4 million unregistered guns will continue to be carried around by their owners.

Wasn't there a report recently that said the army and police were alleged suppliers of black market guns?

Thailand, who has no dog in this fight, and were there to earn a living, should sue the Hamas and all other terrorist groups in the international court of law for compensations for lost of life, pain and suffering, Hamas has billions and so the other groups, let see them justify the atrocities they have inflicted on the innocent Thai workers...

    Good luck with that.

I kind of like tattoos on some women. It can be very sexy. But, on guys it is just boring. Feels like a desperate sort of "paint by numbers pseudo hipness" thing. Some are amazing. Some are so dull and so lacking in originality.

As a poster said. 'It is a personal choice what one does to their own bodies.' For me, tattoos on women is a complete turn off. Why spoil a beautiful body with an inane tattoo? A Hummingbird on each tit will look like a couple vultures in old age. As for men's tattoos. I'm sure there are some that flocked like sheep to get one, are bearing tribal messages saying 'I'm a d******d' in the tribes lingo. But each to his own. But live to regret it, maybe.
