I was there Saturday. Salmon BBQ with baked potato, corn and a salad for 149 Baht. The food was very good and girls were great as always(Jaa, Air and Remy).

Did not need one before the pandemic. I found Malaysians and Kuala Lumpur fascinating. Most were friendly I was never asked "Where you come from?". It is almost felt like Singapore but a little behind. It had all the things Singapore has but in a different way(Malls, bars and one can buy alcohol 24 hours a day). All the Malaysians I had contact with spoke fluent English. I would go back but this year I am going back to Singapore(yes it is going to be expensive).

No it does not mean that. The Translation is probably incorrect. I believe it means No Visa or no renewal. This is the accurate bullet point for section 5.3: 6.3 In the event that the insurance company refuses to purchase all or part of the health insuranceMust have a deposit balance in a commercial bank account located in Thailand for not less than 3,000,000 bahtbefore applying for at least 2 months or have a deposit in a commercial bank account located in Thailandand other health insurance limits are not calculated together. Less than 3,000,000 baht for medical treatmentThere must be proof of refusal to purchase health insurance certified by the insurance company.or certified by a foreign embassy in Thailand or certifying the signature of the person authorizedto sign the documents presented (Notary) from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the applicant, as the case may be. So if you cannnot or will not purchase the OA Visa health insurance then one has to put 3 Million Baht in the bank. Good luck. Either way it is not a great choice.

ATM ate my card and locked up
sqwakvfr replied to Noisyaircon2020's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I have two hard rules if I use my US Debit Card in Thailand or in any foreign country: 1. Use an ATM machine at a bank 2. Use the ATM machine while the bank is open and there are employees in the bank. -
AirBnb host tells me they never make TM30
sqwakvfr replied to daejung's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
This is going to sound like nonsense but AirBnB in the past claimed it was part of the "Sharing economy". In essence "I share my house with a guest". Of course the guest pays the host (did I miss something?). I just canceled a booking on Agoda because what I had actually booked was a privately owned condo with an individual "host" and not a professionally run condo complex with an office staff. This sounded a little "hinky" to me when the host did not respond to my emails or calls so I could find out exactly how to get into the condo? Agoda customer service insisted that this was a hotel(really?). Maybe I am i too old fashioned but I just don't like staying at a privately owned condo unless I am renting it as an actual tenant. -
So far I think I might be in the lead: 1) Mailed an envelope to Los Angeles from the CNX airport Post Office. Cost was 300 Baht with tracking. I mailed it on September 23 2022. 2) The Thai Post Tracking website indicates it arrived in the United States on Sep 27, 2022. As of today it still shows arrived at inward office of exchange International(United States).

At this time I believe Internationals arrivals at CNX airport are: 1. Air Asia-from Kuala Lumpur(I believe it has started since they are taking bookings) 2. Scoot Air from Singapore(I just booked this flight and it was not exactly cheap) 3. Korean Air from Incheon because I heard the return flight leaving at around midnight. As soon as Emperor Xi decides to free his people the mainland Chinese Carriers should start landing at CNX. Before Covid ;there were a lot of international flights landing at CNX(Even Qatar used to fly there)

"respectable" Thai traditional massage place for a cultured American lady ?
sqwakvfr replied to orang37's topic in Chiang Mai
Natchan massage across from the Imperial Mae Ping Hotel(the hotel is still closed). I have seen a fair number of women who have gone in there over the years. -
I just stayed at hotel off of Nimmanhaemin last night and it was a royal yawner. Had one beer at Beer Lab and called it a night. If you want night life you could try Loi Kroh or venture down to BKK.

“Free”. True Freedom is when you die. So what country wants this guy?

I got the bivalent booster while I was back in the US back in early September. The minimum time from the last shot was 4 months. I was able get the 3rd shot in Chiang Mai in March of this year.

In a word No. I dumped Express and Nord and just use the VPN that came with my Norton Anti-Virus software. I also dumped Netflix and just watch US TV programs on the network websites. The commercials are annoying but the only network that blocks the Norton VPN has been ABC. My only paid subscriptions are Peacock(sucks but at least I get Sunday NIght Football) and Disney+Hotstar Thailand(it was only 799 Baht for one year).

What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2022)
sqwakvfr replied to CharlieH's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Just started The Dropout. It is about Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos. So far very interesting. -
Think of the E-Visa like airline E-Ticket. The days of gluing an actual visa onto a passport page are gone(but with TIT nothing is 100% certain). I got an OA in Jan 2022 and arrived with the E-Visa at BKK in early February. I printed out the confirmation email from the Thai Consulate and paper clipped it to a passport page. The entry process was a smooth one and the IO stamped my passport.

Changes in banking policies and rules
sqwakvfr replied to jingjai9's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
USAA recently revised their Deposit Account policies. The two key items that will affect me are: 1. USAA now states at their “discretion they can limit the number of transfers out of my account with or without notice”. 2. USAA now limits ATM reimbursement fees to $10 per month. We all know that at most Thai Banks the ATM fee is 220 Baht(almost $6). In essence I will get 1 complete ATM withdraw in LOS before I lose money in the process. A long time ago I saw the writing on the wall in terms of US Banks and have maintained a US Address and US phone number. I will also maintain a valid California Drivers license for as long as I can. I don’t know why this is happening now but the US Banks are definitely making it harder for Americans who live overseas. -
Yes. I believe it is the original owner. I seem to recall his name is Chris? Was there last week for Salmon BBQ(good food for 139 Baht-on Saturdays).

COVID-19 PCR TESTING COSTING 2800 THAI BAHT WITH SAMEDAY RESULTS AVAILABLE AT CM MEDICLINIC. Cmmedclinic.com. Last time I did a PCR Test in CNX was at this clinic. I believe at the time CM Ram Hospital was 3500 Baht. In the US the cheapest PCR test I found was $175. I have found that PCR tests are definitely cheaper in the Thailand then in the USA. Therefore, where exactly in the world are PCR tests 4 to 6 cheaper than Chiang Mai?

Ditto. She was great and will be missed. I watched Murder She Wrote when it was originally on CBS and enjoyed it very much.

On the way to lunch in Somphet I walked by the building. It was dark and locked up.

I came back into BKK two weeks ago. My current OA Visa Health Insurance expertise on Jan 14 2023. Therefore i got stamped in until Jan 14, 2023. I plan on getting the insurance policy renewed in December 2023 until Jan 14 2024. I also plan a one day trip to Kuala Lumpur in late December and I should be able to get stamped in until Jan 2024(at least I hope so but with TIT??). In the end this is the plan.

Thai immigration withdraw tourist visas of two CNN reporters
sqwakvfr replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
CNN has a bureau in Hong Kong and often sends reporters out in the field in Asia. The only time Fox had it's people in Asia was to cover the Trump-Kim Summits in Singapore and Hanoi. Based upon it's business model Fox News really does not care about Global Events with few exceptions (namely Ukraine). When I had access to CNN International I saw some of Anna Coren's work. She looked like a capable reporter (notice I did not use the word journalist) and has reported in many parts of Asia. With Breaking News it is rare that any reporter will obtain the proper visa in order to cover a story in a foreign country. As long the reporter(s) does not cause an incident then "no fuss, no muss". This time she got caught in the middle and probably never cover a stary in LOS again. I wonder if Jeff Zuker (the CEO of CNN) will have to come to LOS and offer his apologies? CNN or it's parent company could make amends by making a large donation to the families. Now back to a "real" news channel: Al Jazeera(they have reporter based out of Bangkok-Tony Cheng). . -
I spoke to a nurse some years back and she said more nurses make between 20,000 to 25,000 when they start. I thought rather low considering the education and training required to become a nurse.
