Chiang Mai Air Quality and Pollution
sqwakvfr replied to Cheesekraft's topic in Air Pollution in Thailand
Flew back from Singapore yesterday and the skies over CNX looked grey and hazy. The current AQI is over 100 and it is late December. Really noticeable from Singapore once I got outside of the airport. Lately I have been living on throat lozenges and Loratadine. The air in Singapore was good and my allergy symptoms were nonexistent. -

If you monitor Air Traffic Control frequencies in Thailand most of the controllers and pilots speak very good English. Every other place in LOS has been a mixed bag. I have to constantly remind myself to speak English like as if I was back in elementary school to make my point. I have pretty given much given on speaking Thail to most because I can't pronounce most words with the right tonal inflection. I have had a lot of misunderstandings. My expectations are Thailand will never achieve English proficiencies like other countries in Asia. There is nothing wrong about that because each country sets what priorities are important for their own interests. In LOS English proficiency is not a priority. If I want to go to an English proficient country then I go to Singapore or even Malaysia. -
Will French serial killer “The Serpent” be extradited to Thailand?
sqwakvfr replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Serial killer Charles Sobhraj heads back to France after being freed following almost 20 years in a Nepali prison. "I have a lot of people to sue," he says My guess is Netflix is on his list? I guess he has his priorities set in the right place. -
Wow. So that story was actually true. Thanks.

There is a culture of firearms ownership and gun culture that is building in Australia. Presently it is not big but could grow. Lot’s of open territory in OZ just like the plains of west Texas. The NRA has been in out of Australia for years. Recently there was shooting in rural Australia where two police officers were shot and killed.

Has any foreigner on this forum over 55 ever donated blood in Thailand? My understanding is most us over 55 cannot donate blood. Also, I have also read that even foreigners who are under 55 at times have difficulty donating blood. The weirdest thing I have ever read was a British National under 55 who was denied because Mad Cow Disease was spreading back in the UK. Just wondering because I might need a transfusion someday in LOS.

Has he been banned from Thailand. I believe he is a French Citizens so he can go back there. -
Wow. It almost sounds like this could be an incompatible relationship with her family? If they expect million(s) now then what about the future. Did you consider asking this question: What would a Thai groom be expect to pay? Would this question be considered as insulting?

In Asia an English "Teacher" can come from anywhere. A few years ago I had a conversation with a Russian woman who was teaching English at private school in Seoul, South Korea. She had an accent that was very noticeable but her grammar was excellent. Also, she was blonde, mid 30's and very attractive. I also saw a guy from somewhere in Eastern Europe who wos teaching English to kids at a Hagwon(a prep academy). This guy had no business teaching anything. His only qualification that I noticed was that he was married to a Korean woman. So an English "Teacher" from Uganda in LOS does not seem far fetched to me.

British woman breaks nearly every bone in face in Thailand
sqwakvfr replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
One more thought on what is covered and what is not covered. For example when I rent a car in my home country(USA) and I use my credit card I have some insurance coverage. When I rent a vehicle outside of the US with my credit card I get absolutely no insurance coverage. Most insurance policies exclude coverage when the policyholder engages in dangerous os hazardous activities. Some of the activities are specifically defined in the police(like hang gliding, bungee cord jumping, skydiving but I have never seen riding on a scooter or moped mentioned). -
“Chang Klan road? What happened? looks like so many places boarded up now & the whole road basically in a state of disrepair” Many part of the city have grown but the area where Pantip Plaza starts down to the Astra Condo looks like a zombie battle has occurred. At night it is very quiet. I am moving next year and the Astra Condo is impressive but the neighborhood does not offer much.

All insurance policies are contracts. Policies have two main sections: 1) Perils-what is covered 2) Exclusions-what is not covered. Guess which part is bigger? Yes, the Exclusions. -

I stopped reading articles because often they incomplete or not accurate. I believe there are 14 bones in a human face. So mostly means how many? -
Harry and Meghan Netflix: William screamed at me during summit, says Harry

"My brother screamed at me". Join the club. This is from an Apache Helicopter Pilot who flew combat missions in Afghanistan. As they say in my part of the world: "Come on man, take away his man card". -
British woman breaks nearly every bone in face in Thailand
sqwakvfr replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
I have investigated fatal and very serious traffic collisions but I have never seen anyone who "broke nearly every bone in her face"? Is she in a coma? Injuries of this magnitude are usually fatal. Also, the medical bills are one thing but next will come the medical evacuation back to the UK. Possibly a nurse would have to accompany her in business class or even possibly a medical charter flight. 50K might just be a starting point. Very sad story. -
This happens in Souther California as well. When I worked the graveyard shift I would patrol the beach in Venice and often I could smell sewage coming from the drainage tunnels. This was a frequent occurrence. When it rained public works would claim the sewage system was overloaded and they had to relieve the pressure on the system and “some” sewage was released into the ocean. I have not going swimming into any ocean for over 25 years.

Can Thailand afford to raise minimum wage to 600 baht?

I saw a help wanted sign at local CNX 7-11 and the posted daily pay was 350 Baht. It did not mention how many hours per day. -
Can Thailand afford to raise minimum wage to 600 baht?
sqwakvfr replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Simple economics is when the lowest members of the working class get a minimum wage of 600 Baht or in many parts of the US $15 per hour then all workers above them should get a commensurate raise as well. It only seems fair that a worker who currently makes 600 Baht then should get a raise to 1200 Baht? Then what will you get? A steep increase in prices of goods and services. Doubt it will happen because business leaders will do everything they can to stop it. I can see a gradual increase to 600 Baht in phases. For instance 400 Baht this year, 450 in 2023 and 500 in 2024 and so on. But then I just realized I am applying western logic. Disregard, TIT. -
Yes, I would consider both. But KSK site is in the city and Promenada is more out. Interesting to see what actually happens or does not happen.
