  1. Has anybody ever done it or known of somebody doing it?

What countries would you pass? What would your route be? and why?

What vehicle would be your choice?

there is an australian travel company based in london , do the trip by 6 wheel drive bus, twice a year, from singapore to london and vicky verky, they used to trade as Overlander travel, if you are in uk try and lay your hands on the tnt free aussie expat newspaper they advertise in it,nignoy

I know of a company called exodus, not sure if they are the same as overlander, but it is the same deal with them, convertred lorries London to Singapore in 40 weeks. I was offered a job with them, but told to go and do some travelling first, and that is when i met my wife. I think that sort of job is a single mans game, money was crap as well £50 a week and all your living expenses while on the road :o

  2. URGENT TRAVEL NEWS FROM THE BBC

England supporters awaiting the arrival of the 'Grand slam express' are advised that due to a points failure and subsequent derailment at Murrayfield, the 18.12 from Edinburgh has been cancelled.

Further bad news as the A1 south has been blocked by a large number of wheel less chariots. Police advise that any owner of a vehicle unable to swing low, should call Scottish emergency services on 0900-GETITUPYEEZ, and await the arrival of someone coming for to carry them home. Kind locals are believed to be keeping distressed England supporters supplied with large amounts of humble pie, although sour grapes are available if necessary

    :o

:D :D Excellent mate, and not all us English suffer from sour grapes.......MUCH :D

    Hi there,

I don't know from Thailand, but i knew one who took the Train to Austria from Hong Kong.... :o

    It took him 4 weeks.

So if i look at the Map you might want to go through Laos to China and from China through Russia...until you reach European Borders. This i would do if a good 4x4 and better if 2 vehicles are involved , equipped with winch...and everything what's available.

This is just my speculation but you should certainly get more opinions.

    Good luck...

    rcm :D

Not sure about the route, but definately you would require 2 4x4s usually Land rovers would be the vehicle of choice. If you get stuck in one vehicle the other one can pull you out. You would need to fill the vehicles with spares, food and water, camping gear, it would have to be fitted with a winch and with skids to lay on the road if you get stuck. You would probably want the vehicle itted with a snorkel and some serious off road tyres. I would also be inclined to go on some sort of vehicle maintenance course, as i am pretty sure you will be needing these skils somewhere on route.

You will also need gps along with a sat phone.

I watched a programme about a group of guys that did this on motorbikes and they were forever breaking down having major problems. There were sections of their route through Russia and other countries, where there just wasnt a road and they were knee deep in mud.

Great adventrure good luck if you try it :D

  4. I have a Panasonic nv-gs11 cost me about £300 last year so i bet they are pretty cheap now.

It has everything i wanted, small, light, easy to use. It also came with a 24x optical zoom, which is cool, but you really need a tripod otherwise you just get far too much camera shake. It also came with a remote control, for when it is plugged into a tv, and also loads of other accessories. Like i said before feel free to pop over and have a look :o

Scenes of Siam, the siren waves,

But not till June for the Bristol brave!

:o Thanks Bannork your little rhymes always cheer up my otherwise cold and miserable day :D

  6. Do my eyes deceive me, or have they put a phone mast on Buddah's back? :o

  7. I think showering 3 or 4 times a day is too much, and might even be bad for the skin (dryness...). Most Thais shower two times a day... well when in Rome do as the Romans do :D

Trouble is most of us werent born in a hot climate and showering twice a day just isnt good enough, i find it even worse if i am in Bangkok, the fumes and the dust and general dirtyness seems to penetrate my clothing as well as my skin and showering any less than 3 times and i just feel dirty. :D

I agree Daleyboy, Bangkok seems to stick to you and showering alot is a must. I think the fumes cling to the skin.

    :o

However I still love the place! :D

Yep me too, in fact i made it my place to live in another thread, if definately has more going for it than detracting from it. :D

  9. Back on subject, I do have a favourite pic of all time, it's of my fiancée, we are in a taxi in BKK at night, she had just bought a big bunch of pink flowers and she is holding them up to the side of her face. With the flash and dark background it just looks like a really professional pic even though I took it! :D I think I will keep that one for personal viewing however.

Heres a good one a found somewhere on tin'ternet

Thats a great pic, i love that style of photograph :D Come on we all want to see the one for personal viewing :o

  10. I can sympathize with OP, however bit of a cruel streak running through his comments.

-pretty much common sense you need take 3-4 showers a day. I suppose our odorous fellow farang are just plain lazy.

And I suppose after each of your three to four showers, you change your clothes as well. If not, what's the point? If so, what a waste of water having to wash all those clothes so often. If you frequenly find that you need three showers, may I recommend you turn on your air conditioner.

To those that are staying in hotels where people don't *rinse*, not shower, before using the pool, I highly recommend staying at better hotels away from Sukhumvit, Patpong, and Pattaya.

Bit of a pompous ecologist are we? :o:D

  11. My wife moaning that i have speant all day on Tv, but i guess you cant really call that music, more of a whine :o

You bum :D should be at work sloggin away like the rest of us :D

You can still hear that?! I blocked that out a long time ago. AC/DC helps BTW. :D

My wifes whines are like a dog whistle, they are only audiable to me for some strange reason, bit like scraping nails down a black board :D

  12. Congrats matey, you now have years of your missus moaning about how cold it is :o Well my wife does, am i the only one? I think not. :D
