You can't save everything as a museum. Who in the World would be interested in seeing that old utilitarian building?
Built in the neo-renaissance Italian style by a Turin architect at the beginning of the 20th century, I can think of many people who would be interested in seeing it preserved.
Railway enthusiasts
Railway station enthusiasts.
Architecture enthusiasts.
History enthusiasts.
People who are interested in old Bangkok.
People studying turn of the century architecture.
The type of tourists not in the slightest bit interested in sitting on a bar stool all day.
Other interested parties.
School groups.
I made my first train journey from Hualampong in 1986, and have probably used it 100 times since then. So I would certainly go back for a look.

130 kilos? In the USA and Britain, that would be considered a normal weight nowadays.

Where is the provenance? Without that paperwork, the painting is worthless, can it be reliably traced back to when it was painted, through a line of owners? The scientific work done on it sounds dubious. It's well known that Gogh painted with oil paints from tubes in bright colours, particularly yellow, which he was obsessed with to the point of eating it. Van Gogh died penniless, this women probably will too.

I have only seen cows from chockchai farm which looked like real healthy milkcows..All the rest of the Thai cows looks as skinny as a wild chicken.
So where is the milkproducing area of thailand? Can we spot thousands of cows in greenfields overthere?
You are confused, over types of cow. The skinny ones are the indigenous breeds, reared mostly for meat. Dairy cows are imported stock of mostly Frisian and some other breeds. Dairy herds can be seen in some parts of Thailand, generally in the North, and look the same as dairy cows the world over. However, most Thais don't drink milk, this article probably refers to the many sweetened milk products that are found in 7/11 and supermarkets, and are sold to children in schools. Regular Thai milk is of a good standard, especially Meiji.

And you Sir, with your 1 inch thick specs and arthritic knees, would probably have slammed into the oncoming vehicle. I thought she did well, avoided a fatal head on collision, brought her vehicle to a stop with minimum damage, and her passengers all safe.

Poor girl, those third world bus marathons are a nightmare, thankfully she has made a full recovery. Sitting anywhere for 14 hours is unnatural, and dangerous to your health. Our bodies are made for movement, and plenty of it. Never take a bus if a train is an option, try to get an aisle seat on a plane so it is easier to walk around. loosen your belt and other tight accoutrements.

Never mind, she can reside in knightsbridge, with other super-rich ex-pats from Asia, The Middle East, and Russia most of whom achieved their wealth through corrupt and dubious means, that left millions of their fellow countrymen starving and internally impoverished, and who once in the UK can and usually do indulge in a vulgar and risable display of riches which is the very antithesis of good taste and reserve, those rare qualities that can only come from a good upbringing, solid learning, a sense of history, class, and dignity.

I thought that teachers were not supposed to have physical contact like that with students?
It took a while for someone to comment on that. The female Thai teachers seem to be quite physical with their students. For foreign teachers most schools have a strict no-touch policy, which would seem obvious. For the male Thai teachers I'm not sure, though I once witnessed a 'cool' Thai teacher, 40, dresses in black, rides a big bike, you know the type, every school seems to have one, give a shoulders and back and neck massage to several 15 year old girls in the class. Something he would have been fired for pretty damn quick in a UK/US school.

My landlord only lowered the charges for electricity and water by one baht under the new regulations. I'm fairly certain that these new rates do not comply with the law. However, OCPB never issued any clear guidelines on the manner in which the new regulations were to be implemented. This leave landlords with a lot of 'wiggle' room and most tenants (including me) will not want to get into an extended pissing match with their landlords.
The maximum that can now be charged is 6 baht per unit, i.e., normal price plus 20%. More than that, and the landlord can be fined 100 000 baht or go to prison for 1 year.

Years of stealing money from people, and now the party's over. You think it's OK to add 100% onto an electricity bill? It isn't, the tenants should be handed the bill from the electricity company directly to pay by themselves. Now people can actually afford to turn their air con on during the hottest weather. Unbelievable this dishonesty was allowed to continue for so long.

Yet the far more dangerous nicotine and alcohol are sold openly, and even promoted. What a stupid species we are.

Comical watching the fella with the sledgehammer. Someone who knew what they were doing, would have had that door open first hit. If that was a serious gang inside, there would have been guns galore pointed at the door by the time he finally got it open.
Being left handed didn't help. He couldn't get a proper swing. A right handed man with a heavier sledge would have opened it first try.

A million? How could the writers be so obtuse? Try 20 million, and probably a lot more than that. Even a small town would have several hundred thousand.

Re: post #99, the poster was making a pun about the misuse of the word "nativity" when "naievté" was intended.
No I think he meant nativity. A bunch of old men visit a tumbled down shack in a village, and proceede to give away all their gold.

Yes, but I bet your dog can't gyrate around a pole, call you 'hansum man', or give you a lap dance.

Puts me off the scene. Sloppy seconds after Grandad. Being kissed after Grandad. Urgh!

I don't think people who resort to prostitutes are really that bothered. People let their dogs slobber all over their faces, which is much worse. The girls often prefer the old guys, as they are quick, or often can't do anything at all.........and pay more.
Let this old codger have his fun as a one off. If he makes it a habit, he'll not only be depressed, but destitute as well.

Do people realise that Starbucks was named after the first mate of a whaling ship [Melville], that a latte has 400 calories, and who are they trying to kid with that art nouveau centrepiece ?
Why not just carry some coffee in your Stanley Aladdin flask, like normal folk.

That's the British Ambassador? He looks like a shoe salesman, or the guy who comes to fix the washing machine.

Mth before 2800 bht as this had been the norm for many a month, now they're hitting 3000 +
Wow, you must be one of those people that have to sleep with the air con on all night. Either that, or someone is charging you 8 baht a unit.

Good news. Let's hope it gets much more expensive. People should walk when going on errands of 3k distance or less, that's why we have legs. And imagine how beautiful Thai country roads would be with 80% less traffic.

Mortifying. I feel for them, but unfortunately some people are absolute pigs. Surely learning how to spot danger signs at the interview stage is the answer. If I did have an expensive property to rent out, which I don't; the following applicants would be immediately ruled out with extreme prejudice.
1. People who are improperly dressed, wife beaters, tank tops etc etc.
2. People who are badly groomed, dirty hair, unshaven etc.
3. Overly obese people. Obviously, they have discipline issues.
4. People with visible tattoos. Don't even respect themselves.
5. People who don't have a regular job. That's going to work in a shirt and tie at 7am, not going to work in underwear at 7pm.
6. People without excellent references.
7. People with large families. Nightmare.
8. Single mum with daughter ok. Single dad with 'daughter', no.
9. Smokers. Disgusting.
10. Also, take a good look at their car. Is it clean inside, washed, waxed and well maintained? A good sign.

Why? These are not remote inbreeding woodsmen. But respected community members living in heavily populated villages, who think it is OK to rape young girls, pass them over to other rapists, and then expect to get away with it under the cloak of filial complicity and silence.

They are not men. But neither you or most other TV'ers will ever get that. Not much point in reading further comments as they are most likely of the same unenlightened nature.

What a creepy guy, she's not interested, so get lost. I hope she sues him, as well she should. Like those dreadful Pattaya vloggers, saying 'how are you?' to complete strangers, or much worse, covertly filming people, yes, those guys on Youtube, you know who you are. Get a job, or a worthwhile pastime, instead of leeching on people's privacy.

Art world divided , but Haruthai is unmoved
in Thailand News
Posted
I doubt the 'art world' has even heard of her claims, nor is it likely they would be in the slightest bit interested. The various institutes such as Wildenstein in France who authenticate works by the impressionists , post impressionists and neo-impressionists are plagued by people like this who think that a poor copy or likeness that they picked up in Chatuchak or elsewhere might be worth countless millions. Early Van Gogh's were quite dark and earthy, never monochrome. But by the time he was in Arles, bright colours were flying all around the canvas, and he never looked back. Why would anyone paint anything monochrome in the divine light of the South of France? Her view that the colours have simply faded, is quite simplistic, and a bit stupid.
