Domestic Violence Surge Sparks Urgent Calls for Reform
JimHuaHin replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
All this under a female Prime Minister? The best way to address this "problem" is to start educating the masses, in the education system (from primary schools up to the tertiary level) and in the media (the Thai media is full of violence against women). If a government can ban cigarette advertisements, then it can ban violence any media that shows violence against women. -
Getting OaP with Super

Correct. I was working in Canberra in the 1980s. A friend from uni was working as a researcher in the policy section of social security ( I cannot remember the department's name). She was handed a research-policy paper from the Parliamentary Library or the Australian National University (I cannot remember which), and asked to check the data and analysis. Bottom line - the paper provided a 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50-year projection of Australia's population size and age distribution and its potential impact on social security payments (in then current dollars). The financial costs to social security at 50 years ahead were astronomical. The paper recommended that all workers be forced to join a super fund, and so by year 20XX the old age pension could be abolished. Etc., etc. Of course, there is the issue of the elderly who never worked in Australia, and I cannot remember how that was dealt with. Thus, the current compulsory employee superannuation idea can into being in the early 1990s. -

The West needs Musk, like the West needs Putin and Xi. Can you imagine anyone worse than Adolf Hitler and Pol? The answer is yes, and they are in power in the USA now.- 165 replies

Markets sink as Trump confirms tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China
JimHuaHin replied to Social Media's topic in World News
As markets sink deeper and deeper, many on this forum will probably be worried as their retirement funds are linked to stock market investments - ergo, stock markets collapse, and stay down, retirement benefits disappear. -
Meanwhile, most Thai economists are saying major economic structural reforms are needed; which will not happen as the super wealthy Thai businesses like the current system as they can make large profits. Did not CPFoods declare last week that last year's profits were up 457? per cent last year? International economic/financial bodies have been warning for most of the century that major structural reforms are need if Thailand is to advance, but .... TIT .... and connections rule.

What thumping? Trump received 49.8 % of the votes (77.3 million) and Harris 48.3% of the votes (75.0 million). Trump received 2.3 million votes more than Harris (according the the NBC News website). That is not a thumping, it is a close result. Also it indicates the undemocratic nature of the US Electoral College system.

Markets sink as Trump confirms tariffs on Canada, Mexico and China
JimHuaHin replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Markets are going to sink as long as Trump is in power, with probably the US market hardest hit. Massive inflation and unemployment are about to his the USA, and will only stop once Trump-Vance-Musk are removed from power, and preferably imprisoned.
